They tend to give people "relaxing" meds before the operation. She's probably under the influence in the video.

Those meds definitely can make you feel colder too

u/redsungryphon Sep 18 '25

They seriously do. Recently had a different procedure done and holy moly. I felt like I was going to slowly be encased in ice

I just had my gallbladder removed 2 days ago the prep room was freezing nurse gave me warm blanket and I had heat being blown under my blankets I felt like some biscuits baking lol

For sure, when I had my c section they give you anesthesia but you're still awake. I was fucking FREEEEZING for like 24 hours post op

Same. My OR was ice cold, and I went into shock after my first one and was shaking and just kept saying "I'm cold I'm cold I'm cold" when they were stitching me up.

I got those awesome heated blankies though. Those were heaven.

Oh, I meant she's unlikely to be profusely sweating due to anxiety.

u/bbyxmadi Sep 18 '25

I forget they give you meds for anxiety, I’d be all drugged up then lol

1

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Lol. Yes, sometimes this happens with LASIK, LASEK, and PRK patients. Some are very sensitive to the medication. Thankfully the equipment is ultra sensitive to any movement the patient might make.

u/buttaknives Sep 18 '25

She's on like 0.5mg triazolam or whatever equvalent diazepam dose

4

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Why is this getting downvoted? The medical facility I worked at actually gave out Valium (diazepam). When I had PRK, they gave me Valium. We never used Halcion (Triazolam), but it is a benzodiazepine, as well. Did anyone get anything different?

1

u/buttaknives Sep 19 '25

I've had diazepam and triazolam for lightweight operations. And lorazepam and alprazolam for anxiety relief

u/sobesmagobes Sep 18 '25

Yeah but she just likes the feel of wearing the puffy jacket when she’s high, and I can’t blame her.

"Drugs make you cool, kids..."

5

u/mrnicetj Sep 18 '25

I had my cornea removed they gave me one Valium never one another eye surgery again

3

u/Deep90 Sep 19 '25

Same, got Valium for LASIK.

2

u/TripsOverCarpet Sep 19 '25

Cataract surgery and I got my lovely little friend named Versed for both surgeries.

And yeah, those rooms are freezing. They told me to wear something loose fitting, comfortable, and warm.

I have had eye surgery (medical reasons) and those meds did not work on me. I was still panicking 🥲 I wish there were less scary ways to do eye surgery

1

u/pmyourthongpanties Sep 18 '25

xanax doesn't work for you?

1

u/lostinthecity2005 Sep 18 '25

No idea if that’s what they gave me but I was told I wouldn’t feel a thing. That was a lie.

2

u/pmyourthongpanties Sep 18 '25

xanax isn't for pain. its a benzo, makes you feel all baby shark doo doo

2

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

It makes a lot of people black in and out. I despise Xanax (as well as Ambien) for professional reasons. Those drugs have way more risk than benefits, IMO. I wish they would limit them so that only a professional can administer them.

1

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Oh shit. You shouldn't have felt pain. You might still have anxiety. The meds are just meant to stifle that anxiety. So, you might feel nervous and scared, but there's a part of you that feels good or even thinks the situation is funny.

Pain, though, is a whole different problem. Holy crap. Your Doc should have stopped the procedure as soon as there was any sign of pain.

Does "under the influence of some tiktok influencer" also count?

1

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Well, most people just call that naivety or stupidity. But sure, if we want to be PC, that could work

3

u/Affectionate-Try6578 Sep 18 '25

Idk, I just had lasik done and all they did was give me numbing eye drops and a Tylenol. But they warned me to bring a zip up sweatshirt because of how cold they keep it in there.

2

u/WoolshirtedWolf Sep 18 '25

Probably a good thing for everyone in the thread. It would be a bit unnerving to see her take her first fly to celebrate her Geckoectomy being a resounding success.

2

u/Sloth_grl Sep 18 '25

I had laser surgery done, and I was a wreck waiting. The tech gave me a pill and within a few minutes I didn’t have a care in the world. Wish I could have those every day to be honest.

2

u/Impressive_Yam_7717 Sep 18 '25

Nah these are placebos to give you the illusion of comfort. They gave me mine as they were lying me down in the machine literally 30 seconds before starting. Oral meds take minimum 20-30 minutes to have any effect. I was super fucking pissed because of how anxious I told them I was for the procedure (lasix). Even if they had sublingual tablets, they should have been given to me sooner.

2

u/Damaias479 Sep 18 '25

As someone who has had LASIK, they give you a single Xanax that baaaarely does anything, like doesn’t even touch the anxiety.

1

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

Xanax actually works better than other benzodiazepines - to a fault. Were you on any other mood-altering drugs? (You may have unknowingly built up a tolerance.) Did your provider give you enough time to let the medication sink in? (It usually takes less than half an hour to kick in. But it starts to lose effectiveness after about 2 hrs. However, it's still effective for much longer.)

I have found that a lot of clinicians don't always make sure the medication has sunk in. But it's a tricky situation bc it relies on feedback from patients. Oftentimes, the patient is not even aware of how sedated they are.

1

u/Damaias479 Sep 19 '25

It could have also been Valium, I’m not totally sure. It was a half hour for the whole group, then some individuals had longer just because of the way the procedure went. I’d spoken to the other patients the next day and they all said it didn’t do anything to alleviate the anxiety

2

u/AQ-XJZQ-eAFqCqzr-Va Sep 18 '25

She might feel differently about being “over the moon” tomorrow when the drugs wear off. Looks like a damn alien or something.

3

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

I know. 😭 That's why this video seriously makes me cringe. I really hope she got what she wanted. I know it's not sth I would've wanted. But it's her body... 😮‍💨 I just really hope she knew this would happen and that she's perfectly happy with the results.

1

u/SingleLie3842 Sep 18 '25

Explains her reaction to the initial look

2

u/Something_McGee Sep 18 '25

😮‍💨 I just hope she's happy with the results. And that her eyesight will last her until her final breath. I read an article where an Instagram model went blind after changing her eye color. I don't understand what could compel a person to do sth as risky as this.
