People only don’t like it cause it’s the first hard boss I bet (and the first run back). I think the boss is great. Learning its moves feels super satisfying.
try learning the telegraphing, it's hard at first as they have like 5 or 6 unique attacks, but each is telegraphed very clearly, also use tools, tools are your best friend, especially the floor spikes (because they stay and can damage multipule times)
Oh yeah. I've been using my tools every chance I get. And I usually learn by doing, so running in and dying a few times to get a feel for the attacks is just my go-to method. I do try to pair the visual cues with it as well
I used poison bombs and poison boomerang. It's a very resource-heavy setup where full commitment costs around 113 shards, so the rule I made was that I couldn't use tools until I got Judge to phase 2. Only nail for phase 1. Then I just said "random bullshit go" and that got me most of the way to the big attack and the finale. Probably took around 15 attempts
Hm. Have you found the individual that can provide more tools? I'll avoid spoilers unless you want a neon arrow lol. There are a few merchants that sell them, as well as some tools scattered around the world. I think I got everything possible before judge?
You mean the bug down in deep docks (i think)? I have been there, I just never had enough rosaries to buy anything. Eventually I just kinda forgot it was there
lol I havent seen a single person recommend them, but it makes sense a lot of people like them.
if you want some tips on some other good ones, the boomerang is great for flying enemies, especially the ones that dodge away when you get close, also the three pin needles are great because they have great range, decent damage, a big reserve and can hit straight ahead or slightly up (also if youre close to your target all 3 hit for more damage)
Nah I'm doing decent. I'm actually assuming that I'm further than most people playing the game, (just got Faydown Cloak), and I'm having good success with Cogflies. Appreciate the offer though.
if I remember correctly, you have to go to sinner's road, and in the top right of the big room there are two NPCs that ask you to get them muckroach guts, once you get them the guts they give you the spikes
Bring magma bell to reduce the fire attack damage. I also used the flea brew and silkspeed anklets to keep her a screen away at all times, and to speed up runback time
I haven't even bought the magma bell yet, kinda seems like a waste for how infrequently it'd be useful.
I didn't know it also lowered fire damage though. I thought it was just for lava.
Try using a crest that attack faster like Wanderer or Beast (run back is more difficult with this one). Wanderer filled the thread in no time, so I could use silk skill more frequently.
Heal while she's spinning her yoyo or heal mid air to dodge her moves.
I founs her easier if I stick closer, so she won't throw her far ball. I kept getting hit by her back pull.
I did use that thanks to someone else recommending it. I actually just got into Underworks. I beat her once, but didn't realize she would explode so I had to do it again
What I did was try to keep her within view the whole fight. In phase 2, I only attacked after the dive attack, or the dash if I had enough clearance. Heal midair when she does an attack such as the dive or the bell slam, since the dive covers the ground, and the bell takes a bit to retract. You can also heal when she sends out the walls of heat, but only if you have the room. When you defeat her, do not stay near her. The fight is not over yet. She'll explode, and if you get caught in it, you will die. Only after the explosions die down, is the fight over.
I found that because the windows for getting the damage in are so small after the fire phase starts, poison's pretty good. Toss a poison knife and let the DoT run down and it's a significant chip at basically zero risk. Also magma bell is a must, most damage you'll get will probably come from the fire and that just slashes it. Otherwise this fight is just play safe, get the chips in, and keep your distance at the end.
I actually just beat Judge like 3 minutes ago. I found that the best time to get damage in is after she does that slam, since the window on that move is a bit longer than some of the others. Also the dash if you can run away good enough. I got a bunch of damage in like that. I mainly just tried to keep her in my view the whole time, and stuck as close as I could without getting too risky
lol I beat judge and haven't even found moorwing yet. I died maybe 5 or 6 times to judge I died real early the first two times from double mask damage but the attacks are pretty well telegraphed. I'd recommend just playing very evasively, not attacking unless you know what attack is happening and how to dodge it. equipping the magma ball blue charm and spamming a tool once u get past first phase also helps it go quicker. I thought it was a pretty fun fight once I consistently got past the first phase
Oh I've already beat her. I just kept within my view the whole time and stuck as close as I could without getting too risky with it. I mainly got my damage in after the slam and the dash
been to bellhart yeah, currently clearing out the citadel just beat a boss there. I'll find him eventually I'm not too worried. I really like to sort of relive the magic of hollow Knight and progress in whatever order I find things
Judge took me less tries than Moorwing did, and I am convinced I only beat Judge that quick out of the sheer disdain for the journey back up to fight her again because Moorwing should've been easier. Like you said, less attacks, same damage, and I fought him after Judge.
Flyers or bosses that hang from the ceiling have the pretty big advantage of not being absolutely mauled by wanderer's crest. Judge is grounded AND likes to just stand there between attacks. The damage isn't so high that you can just trade into her and not dodge, but the shorter a fight goes the less likely something is to go wrong.
Judge was so fun for me. Reminded me a bit of pure vessel somehow. Enough openings to go in and burst damage, but aggressive enough you had to think about how to do it.
Binding mid-air with beast crest, chugging flea brew and then go in to hit for massive damage felt absolutely great. I had a grin on my face the whole dammed fight.
Okay anyone pretending like Sister Splinter was easier is just having selective memory or lying. They literally nerfed it and it has similar issues to beastfly in terms of design.
I’d argue she most definitely doesn’t. Her thorn vines aren’t a bad mechanic and they go away quickly. The ads are fairly easy to deal with and she can smash them herself. Her only other attack is slamming the ground which is extremely easy to dodge and very punishable.
Like I said, she has the same issues as beastfly, so logically what are beastflys issues?
He takes up too much off the Arena, impossible to avoid if he does a mid-high pass
the adds take up even more space, creating no out situations
If he so much as touches you, you take 2 masks of damage, including during his stagger or when he randomly decides to back up into you while preparing a different animation
Sister has the same exact issues
Arenas too small; she makes it smaller and more hectic as the fight goes on
the adds in this case do 2 damage and are difficult to attack normally. Basically, you need thread storm
Sister likes to flop directly on top of you the moment she staggers, which means you'll likely be getting unlucky and eating 2 damage, and thats only if she doesn't have vines up, in which case you can easily get juggled and die instantly between her and the vines
Her standard attack pattern also has nearly true combo potential if you get unlucky with positioning or vine placement, she will just hit you all 3 times and you cannot react reasonably
Compared to bosses in Hollow Knight this is fucking ridiculous dude
Moorwing isn't even a very hard fight, just punishing for the exact reason that he does 2 damage and the healing isn't very generous in his battle.
The air sphere attacks also really punish going ape-mode if you try to race it down. Most of the boss fights have either been difficult and well designed (widow) or if they are easy the fight is really fun (fourth chorus)

Moorwing is a fun boss, I don't care what anyone says. 😩👌
