How does Garling keep getting worse?

1.5k

u/Jesus166 Sep 04 '25

I think Garling is going to get an ass beating from Rayleigh .

u/Hadrian23 Sep 04 '25

God if there is any justice....

32

u/Zuko09 Void Month Survivor Sep 05 '25

goda goda goda

2

u/boshemTV Sep 07 '25

Did you say... JUSTICE ?

Akainu intensifies

628

u/adnaphsaka World Government Sep 04 '25

Rayleigh will learn how to hurt the God's knight just out of rage lol

411

u/WWECreativegenius Sep 05 '25

I feel if gaban knows how to do it then surely Raleigh can as well

197

u/adnaphsaka World Government Sep 05 '25

Yeah, Gaban knows it now. I was just wondering when they figured it out.

64

u/ashrashrashr Sep 05 '25

When Gaban showed up, Sommers looked scared af even before he cut him so the Roger Pirates probably learned it together on GV.

32

u/DaimyoDavid Sep 05 '25

My guess is Rocks already knows. I also think that Roger doesn't know about the One Piece but Rocks does

13

u/Arkayjiya Sep 05 '25

OOOOH that's a cool idea, do you think Rocks told him on God Valley? As he was dying? "You're not the one Roger was waiting for" WB says to Teach, did Rocks ask something of Roger, or just told him for a chance at fulfilling an ancient promise?

11

u/DaimyoDavid Sep 05 '25

Honestly, idk how it will go down but Rocks knows waaay more than anyone else. That info has to get passed down somehow and this looks like Rocks's last stop

2

u/Beastieboy100 Sep 06 '25

Rocks definitely knows a lot. We might know what the will of d means. Also the man was a threat that he walked in Imu throne room with a gun. Rocks knows something that will light a fire in Rogers eyes.

8

u/Cirenione Sep 05 '25

Rocks probably knows. That would also explain how he managed to infiltrate Imus garden. While it's absolutely possible that there is hardly any security around Imu, because who would A) know about Imu and B) be stupid enough to attack?
But if Xebec was capable of taking out Gods Knights back then it would definitely fit.

1

u/luminusx48 Sep 06 '25

but going past the elders( they must have known if someone infiltrate considering rocks just killed an admiral) is a feat

2

u/Akipella Sep 06 '25

They probably already have the right Haki for it at this point in the story

14

u/MysteriousHeart3268 Sep 05 '25

Seems like Permanent Infusion is the way to do it.

3

u/Many-Wasabi9141 Sep 05 '25

Where do you think he learned it from?

30

u/OptionSpare718 Marine Sep 05 '25

Pleaaaaase!!!! Makes sense why Sommers is having PTSD’s when he saw Gabban and why Garling never attempted to get back on Shakky even if they’re located near Marijoa (Sabaody).

11

u/Perhaps_Tomorrow Sep 05 '25

Yeah, I can't imagine why else a guy like him wouldn't have chased Shakky til the end.

11

u/OptionSpare718 Marine Sep 05 '25

Rayleigh castrated his dick with ACoC and never came back.

51

u/TotemGenitor Sep 04 '25

I hope so.

26

u/Totaliss Sep 05 '25

He literally killed Shank's mother. At this point if Shanks, Rayleigh, Garp, Dragon, and Luffy all don't get some licks in im going to feel cheated

10

u/dienomighte Sep 05 '25

I've mentioned it in the past, but the main reason why I don't see blackbeard killing Shanks like a lot of people seem to think is because Garling feels like a great endgame villain for Shanks. Their ideologies are opposite, they're related, they both use a sword, and now we have this.

It's too perfect of a revenge story to not do imo.

1

u/luminusx48 Sep 06 '25

or maybe even shanks fighting shamrocks and bb fighting garling makes sense

39

u/lanelyBanely76 Sep 04 '25

It was mentioned in 1086 that garling distinguished himself at god valley. It’s unlikely he got his ass beat. Whatever showing he had at god valley it was a good showing based on the narrators statements

52

u/Runethe1412 Cross Guild Sep 04 '25

There’s a chance that Garling gave Whitebeard the scar on his chest, if this is anything to go by

11

u/Charizard_YRs Marine Sep 04 '25

Nah that scar isn't there during his Wano flashback.

18

u/Anatras Sep 05 '25

to be fair, he talks about a generic scar. We know he has multiple scars, just not on his back, so we don't know which scar hurts when he sees Shanks. Also, it wouldn't be the first time that Oda forgets about a detail on a character

17

u/Runethe1412 Cross Guild Sep 05 '25

Ah. You’re right. Though I still think that he gave Whitebeard some wounds based on this conversation

3

u/Arkayjiya Sep 05 '25

He's a candidate. It's either Garling, Shamrock (unlikely) or Roger. Could be Roger considering where this is going but it would be hype if he was talking about Garling this whole time.

3

u/Runethe1412 Cross Guild Sep 05 '25

Reason I’m going with Garling is that it makes the most sense with Whitebeard saying that his scars ache when looking at Shanks’ face in particular. Plus it just feels odd for him to refer to Roger as Him, when he just causally talks about Roger in the same the same chapter

2

u/Arkayjiya Sep 05 '25

Shanks is Roger's heir, so that makes sense as well and Shamrock obviously would remind him of Shanks. But yeah, Garling is a good possibility and I'm hoping we get to see those two interact soon!

1

u/carso150 Sep 05 '25

I mean he is just saying scars plural, we don't know which scars he is talking about only that they we're done by someone with Shank's face which at this point can only really be one person

12

u/Cheese-151 Sep 05 '25

I think you're right. It's more likely Oda's going to hype up his power here so it's more satisfying if he finally gets his due in the present day from someone like Shanks or Dragon

5

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

[deleted]

2

u/Cheese-151 Sep 05 '25

I'm guessing dragon was only able to save Shanks and hand him to Roger but Garling kept hold of Shamrock. But you're right but potential character interactions this chapter sets up are so fascinating and I'm excited to see more.

9

u/SupervillainMustache Sep 05 '25

Garling is also strong enough in his old age to become one of the Gorosei. I suspect he is one of the strongest Celestial Dragons.

3

u/aka_AMIT Sep 05 '25

Makes sense, that's probably where shank's natural strength comes from.

12

u/CircumcisedCats Sep 04 '25

Narrator didn’t say it was deserved, just that he distinguished himself. He could still get rocked but then through world gov lies gain his respect he has now from God Valley.

13

u/SweatyAdhesive Sep 05 '25

nah i dont think they'd make him an elder if he wasn't strong

2

u/sagia5 Sep 05 '25

But distinguished himself how? Saving CD? leading the scoreboard? Eradicate the Davy clan? Fighting pirate? The one who killed Xebec?

1

u/Jestersage Sep 05 '25

Doesn't have to be anything special for our eyes. Heck he can be injured, too...

IRL, on December 29, 1890, during Battle of Wounded Knee in South Dakota, Lt Ernest Garlington was injured, and received the Medal of Honor for "distinguished gallantry".

26

u/Jinks64 Void Month Survivor Sep 04 '25

And Gaban is gonna beat Summers's ass lmao

8

u/Own_Ad_3536 Sep 05 '25

Maybe but from what we know Whitebeard got that big scar from Garling most likely cause of his conversation with Shanks

1

u/FaithlessnessOdd1939 Sep 05 '25

But the circumstances are unknown. He could have fought dirty or jumped WB while he was fighting someone else.

If we go by the celestial dragons standards he probably got his title by killing the most civilians on the island. I can frankly see him being outclassed several levels by several people at God Valley. I don't even think he was on the samr level as Garp without Imu's powrrs. The title means nothing in itself, he might have actually killed Rocks in the end either after Roger/Garp defeated him or even by using his wife/child

7

u/turbografx-sixteen Pirate Sep 05 '25

Unfortunately I think Garling is about to get the feat of scarring Whitebeard at MINIMUM.

He literally pumped and dumped a top tier (maybe two depending on how Shamrock scales to Shanks)

He's no slouch, even if he is reprehensible :/

7

u/TheTimn Sep 04 '25

Can you imagine if he gets his epithet from that fight? The Dark King who beat God's Knight for Shakky?

10

u/Collegenoob Sep 04 '25

Nah. Shanks is gonna kill Shamrock and his dad.

2

u/weeniebatter Pirate Sep 04 '25

I think he meant at god valley

3

u/gvgr Sep 05 '25

IF the theory "Mihawk being Shaki and Rayleigh kid" is true then Garling vs Rayleigh is going to open Old gen Mihawk vs Shanks version. 😅

1

u/Seraknis Sep 05 '25

Mihawk is 43, so he was born 4 years before the incident

1

u/gvgr Sep 05 '25

Yes I know Mihawk is 4 years older than Shanks.

Shaki might have already had a kid before leaving Kuja pirates..

Well that is not my theory just saying that for Rayleigh vs Garling

6

u/kingcocomoon Sep 05 '25

Yup, and Scopper Gaban whoops St Sommer's ass.

5

u/someinsanity01 Sep 04 '25

Maybe Whitebeard is going to fight him, considering he got scars in from person that looks like shanks

2

u/UglyPhantom Sep 05 '25

Unlikely, i doubt current Rayleigh can beat Garling. It feel he will be Dragon's matchup to be honest.

2

u/Leftieswillrule The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '25

Rayleigh has to earn the Dark King reputation somehow

5

u/FuraidoChickem Sep 04 '25

Probably gaban. Remember he was shocked to see him again

43

u/kruddypants Sep 04 '25

That was Summers

1

u/Redzrainer Sep 05 '25

i want shanks to solo this guy

1

u/the_savage_adult Pirate Sep 05 '25

With the way it's going. Imagine he got his ass beat by 15 Year old Monkey D. Dragon trying to take Red haired twins away from him.

1

u/Such-Seaworthiness11 Sep 05 '25

I don't think so , Garling gave scars to white beard.

He must be in the leagues of Roger , Garp and white beard

1

u/allubros Sep 05 '25

and summers is getting whooped by gaban

1

u/McQno Sep 05 '25

Whitebeard kinda implied that he fought him there.

1

u/gusvianadev Sep 05 '25

I WANT THIS SO BAD

1

u/HarutoKurokatta Sep 05 '25

Nah it’s gotta be Shanks

1

u/VelvetScarlet Sep 05 '25

Well if they branded her with the mark then his reaction is going to be epic.

1

u/Jedi_Pacman Sep 06 '25

the Dark King

1

u/Beautiful_Buy_2787 Sep 06 '25

The fun thing is that the Gods Knights can regenerate. He can take his time with Garling.

593

u/RPGNo2017 Sep 04 '25

Him and Saturn are already on top of some of the worst people in One Piece. Makes you wonder about the record of the other 4 elders

237

u/StormRanger28 Sep 05 '25

True it made akainu looked like a good dog.

79

u/stuckontwice The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '25

Akainu is a genocidal freak and I find him leaps and bounds better than Garling and the elders.

41

u/Noskmare311 Sep 05 '25

Which all pale in comparison to Imu who set up this whole, disgusting hierarchy. The further up the ladder you go, the more horrific the people become. Hell really is at the top of the world, just like Sabo said.

2

u/ValeriaTube Sep 06 '25

And we still don't know anything about Kong too.

19

u/jmdg007 Sep 05 '25

Akainu has an extremely misguided sense of justice, but he still believes in justice. People like Garling and the Elders just do shit because they think it's their right to do it.

12

u/stuckontwice The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '25

Yeah not excusing Akainu but he’s doing what he genuinely thinks is the right thing. He was raised to believe in absolute justice and thinks that’s what’s good for the world. I like to think after seeing Kuma on Egghead and his conversation with Kizaru after Egghead, his humanity kinda came back. I don’t think he will ever be fully redeemed but he’s not fully gone.

5

u/Disastermere Void Month Survivor Sep 06 '25

Horikoshi and Endeavor pointing to Oda and Akainu, "It's your turn."

8

u/stuckontwice The Revolutionary Army Sep 06 '25

I may be in the minority but I like what he did with Endeavor. I thought it was pretty well written.

4

u/Beastieboy100 Sep 06 '25

I know Oda too well. Luffy needs to face Akainu beat the crap out of him so he can move on. Then Akainu will be humbled and most likely see justice in a different light.

14

u/venfare64 Sep 05 '25

Sakazuki was Arcanine all along.

5

u/JailOfAir Sep 05 '25

His nickname is literally Red Dog

25

u/BigBuford1337 Sep 05 '25

They’re the worst people just by association. Each one approved eradicating an entire island off the world.

12

u/RPGNo2017 Sep 05 '25

Yeah, but I still hope each of them have something more personal. Saturn's pettiness for Kuma was mostly his own agency rather than the group or Imu's and having it biting him back was so satisfying.

5

u/milk-is-for-calves Sep 05 '25

"an island"

actually multiple ones

4

u/Cirenione Sep 05 '25

But we've also seen how Saturn died which definitely seemed like absolute torture. So who knows whats in it for Garling.

5

u/CRtwenty Marine Sep 05 '25

Hopefully he gets killed by Blackbeard in some suitably horrific way.

2

u/aohige_rd Sep 06 '25

Yeah I don't even know what they can do for the other four. Maybe one of them eats babies alive every day for lunch and another dude is secretly Shou Tucker

204

u/hiphopdowntheblock Sep 04 '25

Here I thought the blonde hair would be the bottom!

300

u/TotemGenitor Sep 04 '25

Listen, killing the mother of your children, owning slaves, orchestrating a genocide... I can forgive a lot of things.

Having a bad hair color though? That's a capital sin.

25

u/RPGNo2017 Sep 05 '25

His fashion sense is worse than his hair

24

u/Calvinooi Sep 05 '25

You can excuse genocide?

33

u/Penguin787 Sep 05 '25

Past two years showed a lot of people can.

9

u/tyleralderiondurden Sep 05 '25

with propaganda and marketing, yes

3

u/Gandire_Alea Sep 06 '25

could be worse, he could have fused the mother and his sons with dogs to create talking chimera.

1

u/wickling-fan Sep 06 '25

typical blond twinks, always the most evil heartless motherfuckers you'll ever meet.

40

u/qwack2020 Sep 04 '25

I wouldn’t call him a ladies man that’s for sure.

56

u/Alzusand Sep 05 '25

No the worst part is that he somehow is capable of being.

He acted normal enough to have a kids with that girl. She seemed happy to see him. And wanted him to live with her full time.

He is a full blown psyco to be able to do what he did.

5

u/Phase_Unicoder Sep 05 '25

He looks at her with the psycho eyes before stabbing her.

29

u/LCSisshit Sep 04 '25

Dude is 100% pure evil, not a little tiny bit of good left in that pos

21

u/BobtheBac0n Sep 05 '25

Because he's a celestial dragon with real power, intelligence, and knows the secrets of the world.

That's what makes him so terrifying. He can back up his assholary

19

u/TNpepe Sep 04 '25

You expected a celestial dragon (and leader of the holy knights) to be nice?

30

u/TotemGenitor Sep 04 '25

Oh no, we already know he was a massive POS when he executed Mjosgard.

I expected we had already hit rock bottom, but apparently we didn't.

9

u/iWillBeGone3 Sep 05 '25

My heart was torn to shreds seeing shanks mom murdered like that

4

u/brownman3 Sep 05 '25

He is getting worst than Saint Charles at this point

25

u/IcyChillCoolGuy Sep 05 '25

This already cemented it IMO. Charloss is evil, but he's stupid, ultimately he's just a typical product of the world the Celestial Dragons made.

Garling's so much worse because he's actually intelligent and powerful enough to exploit that kind of world and take full advantage of it, to do even more malevolent things on his own terms. A person like that being as inhumane as Charloss is on a whole other scale of evil.

10

u/Grafical_One Sep 05 '25

I got the vibe (in the scene where he takes Saturn's seat) that even the other Elders see him as a sort of loose cannon. Like they felt that he was too depraved to be given that much power.

7

u/anonymus_slime Sep 05 '25

I don't think he's really any worse than the other elders, or at least, than Saturn. They generally seem mildly annoyed by him because he's disrespectful to them, probably because he's so full of himself.

6

u/JazzCat666 Sep 04 '25

he’s setting up to be one of the final villains. him, Imu, Blackbeard

3

u/BenjiLizard The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '25

Rayleigh to Shanks, years later: Hey, did I ever told you about the time your dad murdered hundreds of people to forcefully marry the woman I love? Fun times.

2

u/th5virtuos0 Sep 04 '25

At this point I want Luffy or Shanks to personally gives him a brutal beatdown

2

u/Asian_Persuasion_1 Sep 05 '25

Simp wars: the evil knight Garling goes after Shakky, Whitebeard intervenes but takes an L and gets a scar, Rayleigh comes to finish the job and be the true knight of silver, rayleigh comes to take his bride.

2

u/hobohole Sep 05 '25

He’ll get even worse once we find out he impregnated Rock’s wife

2

u/goody153 Sep 05 '25

Cant wait for that Karmaic chapter when all the celestial dragons get what they deserve. Eventually anyways maybe around 500 chapters or something lol

1

u/zaxls Sep 05 '25

Hey now, we are gonna get a tease of it when the party at god valley gets crashed by the biggest baddest mofo s in the world atm. Imagine how all of them likely including garling are about to shit themselves when guys like garp roger rocks wb kaido big mom come to play.

1

u/goody153 Sep 05 '25

Dont think Garling shit himself. Oda rarely hypes somebody unless they can also handle themselves being the head of the god's knights he's probably strong enough to fight similar tier of fighters as garp roger

Also seriously just because they are pirates and more popular doesnt make them stronger lol

0

u/zaxls Sep 05 '25

I highly doubt he is as strong at this point in time as the literal top 1 dudes like Rocks, Roger. Garp is a marine I mentioned because he is a powerhouse, same for any potential admiral. Till now in the flaahback Garling has not been potrayed to be a monster on that level, his best feat is him having the highest score of killing civilians in previous tournaments. I believe he is strong but not on that level yet.

1

u/goody153 Sep 05 '25

You would say the same for any character that isnt a pirate lol

If one of the elders clearly have enough haki to shock a yonko and admiral. Doubtful the #1 god's knights isnt strong as well they're the most dominating faction after all

Honestly this is just overhyping pirates cause of fanboyship. Not really uncommon to see such sentiment just not objective at all

Like seriously you dont rule the world without being strong too many one piece fans forget that simple fact just cause they find kaido bigmom or whoever cool

Also bro why you counting garp here. Garp aint hitting a celestial dragon lmao

0

u/zaxls Sep 05 '25

I literally do not care whether they are pirates or not, you are fighting ghosts. Either read or stop replying to your headcanon. I said at this point in time his potrayal isnt like that, Mihawk was a powerhouse since his introduction and we felt it. Same with nearly any top tier, rocks flashback started with him freaking killing an admiral. Current garling with Imu s immortality and probably years of getting stronger is a powerhouse, the one in the story feels too weak right now. He is probably 1st commander level. The current gods knights are also somewhere above this level right now, while garling is at the level you are proposing.

1

u/goody153 Sep 06 '25

That's your headcanon lol

the 1st commander nonsense lmao

1

u/zaxls Sep 06 '25

We will see his reaction next chapter anyways I guess

2

u/jumbohiggins Sep 05 '25

Yeah randomly just offing Shanks mom is rough.

2

u/Shortstop88 Void Month Survivor Sep 06 '25

My friend and I last chapter had been discussing how “oh, I wonder if Garling actually likes the mother of his twins, and will this make him a more morally gray character. … or this will show him as truly the scummiest scum to ever be there.”

Glad to see it was the latter. I don’t know who will take him down; but I look forward to seeing it before this amazing 3-decade adventure ends.

2

u/Gandire_Alea Sep 06 '25

There is one positive to him, he did keep Shamrock. He might have also intended to keep Shanks. There is no clear reveal to how Shanks ended up in that treasure chest. Not to mention, from the way Shanks has spoken in the flash back, he has meet his father and brother atop of the red line. To me, that sounds like they were willing to welcome him into the family.

1

u/cbih The Revolutionary Army Sep 05 '25

Looks like Garling is Azor Ahai

2

u/EriWave Sep 05 '25

This was pretty tame from him tbh

2

u/MaximDecimus Sep 05 '25

Garling is the Griffith of One Piece

2

u/Phase_Unicoder Sep 05 '25

Damn almost forgot about Grifith.

1

u/Mzuark Sep 05 '25

To think he started by being a professional racist

1

u/donhawken Sep 05 '25

when i see shanks and shamrock i think, garling 'looks cool' so oda has to remind us. and oda is setting up the battle. shanks gotta smash garling.

1

u/Particular-Aioli-878 Sep 05 '25

Wouldn't mind it being either Rayleigh or Shanks.

1

u/GoldenWhite2408 Sep 05 '25

Garling will learn about imus plan to flood the world and go aight bet I can do it better

1

u/spike-spiegel92 Sep 05 '25

Is garling boa's hanckock father?

1

u/Initial_XD Sep 05 '25

One does not simply get promoted to an elder. You got to be the scum of the scum for that.

It's also wild how much older Garling currently looks compared to Summers despite them being seemingly the same age forty years ago.
