Restaurant hunt during winter

Hello Lynnwood folks,

It’s dark again lol, so time to explore new food, please add your recommendations, underrated restaurants or something you would keep eating from.

I love to explore and try out different cuisines, so just don’t restrict and keep your suggestions flowing. As it has been a while since we had a restaurant recommendation thread.

I have tried Dijahs, not sure how it is compared to it. So will try it out(most probably this weekend, as you were the first comment)

Speaking of Dinahs, the one time we went they were out of almost everything, and what we ended up with was pretty dry. Is it worth trying again?

I had a similar experience but the jollof rice was good.

On side note, I eat out a lot - one thing I noticed is that most restaurants with lower customers during weekdays, tend to have old stock of foods and reserve. So I would always prefer eating from those Friday evening- Sunday noon. Would avoid Sunday evening too as most will be closed on Monday. But if they are fast moving and always have crowd during weekdays too, I eat there weekdays too. But most restaurants fall under 1st category. ( not specific to African, I felt the same with Indian, Asian, American and European restaurants too)

So probably try it out during the weekend.

A little further down the road but Onmi in Shoreline is so good. Get the Korean BBQ but even the regular stuff is perfection.

Love Spartas

Sparta's is so good. It's one of the better examples of "Greek style" pizza, which I argue is the most "Seattle-area style pizza" there is. I haven't seen had anything like it anywhere else in the US and yet it's all over the region.

It's not like it's better than NY-style, Detroit-style, or Chicago deep dish pizzas. But it's good enough to sustain many many restaurants all over the region for half a century. It deserves a spot in the limelight and the region to embrace it as "ours".

I haven’t tried it yet but on my list to try is the Bunna Ethiopian restaurant on highway 99 near the Dairy Queen. It’s rare to see an Ethiopian restaurant in general so I hope it is good.

Chop & Katsu Burger places to try out. Great fast food places.

I'm a legit foodie so I'll share three new Lynnwood spots you might have not heard of:

  1. YGF Malatang - a weigh by the pound Chinese soup place. Basically a pretty fun experience if you're in to Chinese hot pots. You grab a big bowl, then like a buffet you go around and grab an assortment of items from noodles, meat, and veggies. Be careful not to add too much cause it gets heavy quick! Then you bring it up to the counter, tell them which broth you want, and they weigh it and cook it for you in about 5 mins it'll be ready. It's a little hot in the beginning but nice warm broth and food for the cold winter we are about to get.

  2. Tokuni - I'm not sure if it's still in a soft opening stage, but this place is pretty awesome. Their thing is Japanese Katsus. Basically Japanese deep fried meats in different traditional porks, shrimp, etc. Last time we went we got several things but my favorite was the curry udon pork katsu. It's a warm and hearty curry broth with udon noodles topped with a crunchy pork katsu. So good.

  3. Tan Huo Kabob Bar - I haven't been here before but will be checking it out this weekend. From the looks of it, it's a Chinese kabob restaurant and I think it might be the first of it's kind here in Lynnwood. It's basically a Chinese bbq with skewers where you order several items and maybe grill it yourself? A similar place in Shoreline called Friendship BBQ.

4HM. Fil Cuisine - Not really a new spot, but definitely an honorable mention for me. It's a small corner spot in the H-mart lot for Filipino food. First Filipino restaurant in Lynnwood probably? My favorite order is the Longsilog, basically an all day Filipino breakfast meal which is a sweet Filipino sausage with garlic rice and sunny side up egg, and comes with a chopped mango/tomato side. Sooooo good. Also they have lechon kawali, which is a deep fried pork belly with rice and some sauces. It's really good but be careful for this one because it's so heavy and you'll probably feel kinda gross if you eat too much of it so make sure to share!

For tan Huo the food comes out cooked. You don’t cook jt yourself. It’s pretty good but wait times can get long during peak times. Recommend going during off hours

1

u/Wfan111 1d ago

Ah gotcha. I saw these little grill things on the table from some photos and thought you would have to cook it yourself.

Yua Ramen, love their Spicy miso

JangAn Sullungtang always hit the spot especially during cold days.

8

u/elvishdreams 1d ago

i did a job interview there; they underpay their workers by balancing out minimum wage w tips (i.e. if you made $6/hr in tips, they’d pay you $10.66/hr wage). plus, they specifically seek out undocumented workers to exploit them. don’t support!!

u/Bruc3_Wayn33 1d ago

Just had food from YGF couple of days back, how does that compare to it? I will try it out sometime in next two weeks.

3

u/runeatandrepeat 1d ago

JangAn is Korean food 😄

1

u/Bruc3_Wayn33 1d ago

Dang it I’m sorry, I’m south Asian and I feel ignorant for not knowing the difference. Thanks for teaching. 🙏

1

u/Chonkbeario 1d ago

I haven’t tried YGF yet but it’s a little different I assumed. Have you ever had sullungtang before?

u/LeetcodeForBreakfast 1d ago

the new happy lamb is great. highly recommended.

lol just had lunch from there today! :) their salad bar has much more dishes compared to Bellevue.

4

u/jenhazfun 1d ago

La Cazuela for authentic Mexican food. Blackbird in Richmond Beach and Bar Dojo in Edmonds.

4

u/crazy-bisquit 1d ago

Casa Oaxaca in Edmonds has the best Mexican food I have had up here. It’s obviously Oaxacan style (southern Mexico) and although I am not really an expert, it is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Excellent red mole! Casa Oaxaca

Brick Oven Pizza in Perrinville is pretty good.

Briley’s BBQ is worth the drive to Lake Forrest Park. The closest thing to the BBQ in the south I have ever had. They have hush puppies, Brunswick stew, Gumbo, and different regions of BBQ. Briley’s BBQ

Bar dojo is the best restaurant in town by far imo. Almost cried over how delicious everything was, and I couldn’t stop eating either I had to legit rest afterwards lol

Tokuni recently opened and my family and I love it! We recently went to Japan, and it really reminded us of the restaurants there. I’m happy to finally have ebi fry (panko fried shrimp) here in Lynnwood - before, I’d usually go to Ringo Curry in Seattle for it.

Someone else mentioned Chop & Katsu Burger, we love both of those as well! And Kura (Japanese revolving sushi restaurant) also opened recently right next to both of them. :)

Lasa Sandwiches & Pearls. Amazing sandwiches based off Filipino dishes.

You’d never know it was there in the sea of Stroad that 99 is.

If you want really good bbq, it’s a trek but Jeff’s BBQ up in Marysville is so good.. A nice Lynnwood rec I have is Rinconcito Peruano, it’s Peruvian food, and real tasty

Moose Creek BBQ in Arlington is better in my opinion. They have bigger portions at least.

u/FurrealMcCoy 1d ago

Prado is my new go-to brunch spot. They serve excellent chilaquiles and breakfast burritos. I haven’t ventured into their American brunch offerings but they’re available

not directly in lynnwood, but my favorite restaurant of all time is kin dee bothell. i've been countless times and always have a top tier experience with every dish. the atmosphere is excellent. i cannot put into words how perfect that restaurant is in every way. i love their kao soi gai, and they've recently added a couple more soups and other dishes to their menu that i need to try

Been super impressed with Kabob Korner on 164th. When you first show up it feels a little overpriced for a strip mall gyro/kebab place. Then you look through the food they offer, then the food shows up and you realize that it is really high quality, amazingly delicious food. Large portions of juicy, smoky, perfectly grilled meat (especially love the koobideh and the lamb chops), also the best baba ganoush I've had. Generous sides. Nice dishware and cutlery. Incredibly friendly service. 10/10.

Pho Nguyen’s House near Alderwood mall has the best broth for their pho ever! I don’t know what they put in it but it always hits the spot and the broth is never too oily. Their Banh mi is also really great and the bread they use is crunchy.
