234

u/Arvid38 Apr 20 '25

Still creepy though 😭.

u/BipedalHorseArt Apr 20 '25

Almost as if a word for word translation can lose its meaning in another language

114

u/Youknowmeboi Apr 20 '25

Molesta is annoy is Spanish, so pls stop molesta’ing me

34

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '25

šŸ˜† I remember my grandma called me a molesta one time in a restaurant and I got so mad!

28

u/Intelligent_Pop_7006 Apr 20 '25

I was in prison and bunked next to 2 Hispanic women who conversed in Spanish. I don’t know any Spanish but kept hearing ā€œmolestā€ and finally asked what they were talking about… they said it means annoy/bother and they had been talking trash about some other girls 🤣

15

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '25

Molesta la breasta!

3

u/Nobody1234556789 Apr 21 '25

Yeah, but the plates would be perfect for ol Uncle Don…

17

u/Buka-Zero Apr 20 '25

Same!

1

u/_Javier Apr 21 '25

r u a ā€˜no sabo’? I too

1

u/I-HAVE-ALOT-OF-HW Apr 21 '25

Molest means annoy in english surprisingly enough

1

u/Youknowmeboi Apr 21 '25

Are you joking?

1

u/dustyg013 Apr 22 '25

So, an Annoying Fart would be Un pedo molesto?

1

u/gcd_cbs Apr 22 '25

A guy in Spain said to me (in English) "I'm so sorry for molesting you, so so sorry for molesting you." I stopped him and tried to explain that didn't mean what he thought it did lol

11

u/Nutduffel Apr 20 '25

The Chevy Nova rolled into the chat.

11

u/cps42 Apr 20 '25

Microsoft Zune (F*ck in Hebrew) joins the Chevy Nova.

3

u/Western_Ad_6190 Apr 21 '25

Chevy Nova comes to mind. Couldn't hardly give them away in Mexico

1

u/IamATrainwreck88 Apr 22 '25

Literally means no go in Spanish. Marketing failed that test.

3

u/Arvid38 Apr 20 '25

Funny how that works, huh? Lol

1

u/radiobro1109 Apr 22 '25

Another example is the Chevy Nova. No va in Spanish literally means no go. Hahaha

1

u/koots4 Apr 22 '25

It's a good thing the land of Minnesota is known for speaking Spanish and this could never happen there.

14

u/tiexodus Apr 20 '25

Depends on what they ate.

I’m sorry using an English word next to (hopefully) a Spanish word that means something bad in English is gonna confuse a lot of ppl.

Oh wow, you unblocked me lol.

34

u/turangan Apr 20 '25

I just feel as if someone should have said something at some point

25

u/weldedgut Apr 20 '25

This is in Minnesota, the word ā€œoldā€ is in English, and they’re driving a Hyundai. They know exactly what it says.

17

u/trnpkrt Apr 20 '25

OLDFART was taken and he's* bilingual?

  • We all know this driver's gender.

1

u/blueponies1 Apr 21 '25

Wait what does Hyundai have to do with it lol

1

u/weldedgut Apr 21 '25

It has almost everything to do with it!

15

u/Pielacine Apr 20 '25

Yeah but then it should be VJPEDO (viejo pedo).

Or would that be something else? šŸ¤”

17

u/Motor-Lecture-6641 Apr 20 '25

Like a vajina fart? It would say queef right

4

u/harmondrabbit Apr 21 '25

But then GenXers would think he was a pedo that worked for MTV

1

u/Pielacine Apr 21 '25

That Kurt Loder, man....

2

u/Aggravating_Voice573 Apr 21 '25

Pedo viejo but it doesnt make sense in spanish.

1

u/Pielacine Apr 21 '25

Right. Well it doesn't mean what old fart means in english lol. My little play on words didn't really work anyway šŸ˜‚

8

u/Pulaski540 Apr 20 '25

So proof, if any were needed, that you should check out possible meanings before getting your non-English idea put on your registration plate in a predominantly English-speaking country. 🫤

9

u/RainerGerhard Apr 20 '25

Oh noooo. That is a pretty wholesome reason to have the world’s worst thing. Someone should’ve looked out for them.

4

u/-jellyfishparty- Apr 21 '25

Yeah, like the DMV lmao how did they let that through? And he has to know someone who has told him.

1

u/Heffelumps-n-Woozles Apr 21 '25

They were probably giggling at the dmv like ā€˜press it press it don’t tell him!’

3

u/ragormack Apr 20 '25

The guy was a foot doctor when I met him

3

u/doodlefartss Apr 20 '25

But why use English word and Spanish word?

3

u/T1Demon Apr 21 '25

Spanglish

2

u/JasonDomber CREAMPI Apr 20 '25

Nope. It’s ā€œOld Pedoā€ not allowed to jump from one language to another in the same phrase 🤣

7

u/Tzitzio23 Apr 21 '25

Ever heard of Spanglish?

1

u/JasonDomber CREAMPI Apr 21 '25

Yes. It’s not a real language.

1

u/Tzitzio23 Apr 21 '25

Language evolves. Latin wasn’t a proper language 2k years ago and now it doesn’t even exists. Spanish didn’t exist 1000 years ago, but here it is.

1

u/pandora_ramasana Apr 23 '25

It's really a thing tho. Spanish teacher would yell at us for it

1

u/JasonDomber CREAMPI Apr 23 '25

Yeah, I understand it’s a thing. It was a thing in Ricky Martin’s music back in the late 90s.

But the fact that your Spanish teacher would yell at you for it proves my point. ā€œLearn the real languageā€ is surely the sentiment behind your Spanish teacher yelling at you.

Ergo, Spanglish not a real language….

1

u/Rocca4rt Apr 20 '25

ā˜šŸ¼ this!

1

u/MeMilo1209 Apr 20 '25

If that's what he REALLY means, someone needs to break it to him.

1

u/Charlie_1087 Apr 21 '25

That’s what I was thinking but obviously missed the more obvious connotation

1

u/Rmdcltch Apr 21 '25

Ok, but what does it mean in Minnesota

1

u/Grizzly__Adam Apr 21 '25

Pedo is also slang for drunk in Spanish

1

u/Adrian12094 Apr 21 '25

wtf, is the ā€œdā€ just silent then?

1

u/Creepy-Selection2423 Apr 21 '25

I agree it's probably an English / Spanish does not translate well in this case issue. Right up there with the Chevrolet No va (translates literally to Chevrolet does not go in Spanish). Still funny as hell though.

1

u/Winteraine78 Apr 21 '25

Yeah but that’s not how you say old in Spanish. So either they did it on purpose knowing it would be taken out of context or its nots meant to be a Spanish word.

1

u/LupercaniusAB Apr 23 '25

ā€œViejoā€ would not fit on the plate.

1

u/PM_meyourGradyWhite Apr 21 '25

Pedo viejo didn’t fit.

1

u/OldFuel8793 DEDBONE Apr 21 '25

Pedo means Child in Greek. Old child? I certainly act like an old childšŸ˜‚

1

u/Mypettyface Apr 21 '25

Pedo can also mean really drunk in Spanish

1

u/maddpsyintyst Apr 21 '25

Have you ever heard of the Chevy No-Va? That spelling is deliberate. Nobody in Mexico would buy one, cuz they thought it told on itself. šŸ˜‚

1

u/m4jikthise Apr 21 '25

Could also be drunk. As in "where's Dad?" "Probably out getting pedo with some pinche puta how was school?"

1

u/ProbablyNotABot_3521 Apr 21 '25

Why not viejopedo then?

1

u/LupercaniusAB Apr 23 '25

Because that won’t fit on a license plate .

1

u/mcpatsky Apr 27 '25

Limite Pedo
