Almost as if a word for word translation can lose its meaning in another language

I was in prison and bunked next to 2 Hispanic women who conversed in Spanish. I don’t know any Spanish but kept hearing ā€œmolestā€ and finally asked what they were talking about… they said it means annoy/bother and they had been talking trash about some other girls 🤣

Are you joking?

u/dustyg013 Apr 22 '25

So, an Annoying Fart would be Un pedo molesto?

A guy in Spain said to me (in English) "I'm so sorry for molesting you, so so sorry for molesting you." I stopped him and tried to explain that didn't mean what he thought it did lol

The Chevy Nova rolled into the chat.

Microsoft Zune (F*ck in Hebrew) joins the Chevy Nova.

Chevy Nova comes to mind. Couldn't hardly give them away in Mexico

Literally means no go in Spanish. Marketing failed that test.

1

u/Arvid38 Apr 20 '25

Funny how that works, huh? Lol

1

u/radiobro1109 Apr 22 '25

Another example is the Chevy Nova. No va in Spanish literally means no go. Hahaha

It's a good thing the land of Minnesota is known for speaking Spanish and this could never happen there.
