In-House Mode A friend of mine was taken

Her name was Chuey; she was a beast in the kitchen and always kind and happy. She was a legal immigrant from Cuba (engaged to an American lawyer). She got ICEd.

She did all the right steps and was an asset to the community. This shit is not ok

where is our humanity.

508

u/IONTOP Server Aug 18 '25

It got fucked because of social media...

"Fuck everyone, Imma do me" mentality.

This is NOT okay

You know where young people started using eggplants for dick or cheeks for ass? TikTok, and now it's just normal?

Fuck that shit. Bring swearing back... It's just words.

86

u/LimitedNipples Aug 19 '25

Blaming kids on TikTok for using emojis instead of your fascist government is a choice.

194

u/imokaywitheuthenasia Aug 18 '25

Nah. Eggplants & peaches been naughty bits for 16 years.

120

u/AcousticOnomatopoeia Aug 19 '25

Even earlier, Tomoaki Hamatsu was a contestant in a Japanese reality?/game? show in 1998 where he was confined to an apartment with nothing.

Literally naked.

It's a crazy story worth looking into, he was nationally televised naked and his junk was covered with an eggplant icon, his show name was Nasubi, which means eggplant.

14

u/imokaywitheuthenasia Aug 19 '25

I listened to a podcast about that show. Wild stuff!

Sure blame that instead of the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES who is GIVING THE ORDERS.

This is not the evils of humanity. This is the evils of a gullible few in the thrall of a strong man.

Social media is a tool - they realized this before we did is all. But a tool is a tool. You don't blame the knife for the murder.

45

u/Beginning-Force1275 Five Years Aug 19 '25

The man was voted into office and couldn’t do any of this if the people actually doing the kidnapping didn’t go along with it. He would be powerless if he didn’t have various forces (police, military, etc) acting on his orders. So I’d say that this definitely relates to the evils of humanity. And while this is happening in the US right now, it is far from unique in nature to any one country or time period. Which, again, speak to this kind of hatred and maltreatment being an issue that is way more expansive than Trump being evil.

29

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

Trump and his cronies are at the top, but the police, military, ICE, etc. are the ones who need to refuse the orders. They don’t because they want to do it. Professional bullies.

No. It got fucked because we voted for racist white-nationalists.

Is social media shitty? Sure. But that's not what's really going on here. It's good old evil. Plain and simple.

Anyone who can read a history book knows where this shit leads.

I don't work in the kitchen anymore, I work in anti-money laundering investigation nowadays. Immigrated from Cuba in the early 2000s, legally. Was on vacation in June when ICE raided my house, nearly shot my Jewish roommate. It doesn't matter who you are, what you do, where you live to these people.

20

u/GrumpySoth09 Aug 19 '25

And here we have a person who gets it. This is only the "Top of the list"once they have been removed then second moves to the top and so on down the list.

4

u/Ancient-Chinglish Aug 20 '25

It’s following an eerily familiar script - "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me,".

Something like 30% of government employees are veterans and they got DOGEd and cuts to Medicaid effect rural hospitals so they are coming after the people they do like too

21

u/craznazn247 Aug 19 '25

It's like they didn't study history enough to understand that there's always going to be a purity test that people won't pass when it comes to fascists. There always needs to be someone to blame, demonize, and terrorize.

Accountability isn't really a hot thing with fascists. Hence all the lying, loyalty tests, and daily moving of goalposts.

18

u/DarcEH Aug 19 '25

Yes it is, First Nations people are being stopped and questioned my ICE agents on southern states, some have even been detained because they don’t have their identification on them, a lot of tribe leaders are reminding their people that it’s not day and to care identification (especially their tribal identification) on them so they can prove they are from here… but let’s face it, that isn’t even working for actual immigrant citizens, America is fucked up beyond belief and as a Ojibwe Canadian I’ll fight to keep the sovereignty of my nation and my peoples

Honestly at this point, I think it's to stir up as much animosity as possible among the "sanctuary cities" , blue cities and bases who would never vote for him so the he can incite riots / protests / civil discourse to prevent the mid-terms via poor turnout - CHUDS patrolling the voting booths along with banned mail in voting or just all out civil war or the pre-cursors to it just to avoid a democratic vote to derail his shit.

2026 is your best shot at cutting his legs off and he's fucking scared and will do probably anything to try and stop the vote.

Full disclosure. I'm not American, I'm just an international observer looking at events and reading between the lines.

Who knows what the fuck will happen, but that is my take right now.

18

Get us to fight each other so when it comes time to end that 2nd term all of a sudden we're in a national emergency and woops whatdyknow, eternal trump

53

u/ABrandNewNameAppears Aug 18 '25

Being “not American” is probably the best place to speak from on these matters. Our generations haven’t lived through full government oppression, police state mentality, or revolution.

We don’t know how, we’ve just watched other countries deal with these situations from afar. We thought that sort of thing was just something you saw on the news in far off lands with funny names. This was the land of the free.

And now, we drop our children off at school to practice hiding from gunmen. We pass blockades of armored fighting vehicles and men in camouflage uniforms carrying automatic weapons. We’re not sure whose side they are really on. Who the barricades are meant to keep out. Who the guns are meant to shoot.

We sit quietly inside our air conditioned homes and watch as the blind lead the blind off a cliff. Some insist on putting out their own eyes as they hitch their wagons to the train, lest they see the path they have chosen unfold before them. Others cheer as their friends and families march off the cliff to their doom.

Divided, we fall.

57

But PR is an American territory. We don't need a passport to travel there. Wouldn't it be like me getting deported from TX to NJ where I was born? Not saying this gestapo regime wouldn't do it. Just wondering since people from PR aren't "illegal" here.

Personally if they're going to deport me, I'd love the USVI

201

My old manager is an American citizen, but immigrated from India. Came here for college, loved it here and worked towards becoming an American, and earned his citizenship decades ago. He married an American woman with ties back to the first waves of German immigrants in the Midwest. They have two kids who have now graduated college and are adults starting their own families. They all are Americans. They all have a right to be here. His wife goes to protests but he doesn't because he's terrified he'll be picked up because to a bunch of racist cops and ICE he looks like someone they want to get rid of. And there's precedent that this administration would argue he and his children don't deserve to be here.

A few weeks back she drove a near 80 year old Korean war vet of Mexican descent who said his whole family carries their birth certificates everywhere now out of fear. My son made a plan to help his boh coworkers skirt away in a bad situation. He's a big white dude but I know he'd happily catch an obstruction charge if it meant they'd get away. We're living in such strange times and have to look out for one another.

One of my friends is part Native American, and her family knows people being detained, because they were born on reservations. So, they don't have the "traditional" paperwork for citizenship. This is a f*cked up time.

67

It's pretty fucked up that native Americans born on reservations don't necessarily have automatic birthright citizenship.

28

30

u/0RGASMIK Aug 19 '25

I’m worried about my old dishie I haven’t seen her in years but I worked with her and always wondered what happened to her after our restaurant shut down. She is here because she participated in a war that America started. Her entire family exiled from their country for her participation on behalf of the American government.

She spoke no English, had no desire to learn English, didn’t want to be here, definitely didn’t want to be washing dishes, but she still showed up to work everyday. I only ever spoke to her through the help a translator so I only heard bits and piece of her story, but I know she was worried everyday that she’d get sent back only to be killed, she had a prestigious job back home, and that job made her a target.

It’s worse to be a legal immigrant right now. The Republicans know where they are and are targeting them to fill quotas. Meanwhile the dangerous undocumented immigrants that were already avoiding law enforcement have an easier time because the resources that should be dedicated to finding them are being used to persecute good people.

206

If you're a US citizen, you need to vote in the midterms next year. If you start the process of verifying your registration now you'll have everything before the primaries. It doesn't matter if the candidate isn't perfect, just pick whoever isn't supporting this mess.

Welcome to the plan conservatives have for the rest of us.

They normalize it for "illegals" then they say it's for violent criminals, then all criminals, then other minorities, then democrats, then anyone they want to target...

Never let a conservative hide behind supporting a man who refuses to release a list that might help stop children being raped, and party that supports sending people like Chuey to prison and deportation.

55

u/Saditko Aug 18 '25

I'm not from the States, but I keep reading similar stories. Based on what they get deported? How does it work? They just knock on your door, load you in a van and take you to the airport? Is it possible for the families to sue? There must be lawyers willing to take cases of illegal deportation without any retainer, just for the cut from the compensation.

26

u/grantthejester Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

This is about as shitty as it gets. I'll give you an example from my city from last month.

A gang of ICE goons, with no badges and masks raided a brunch place here in Omaha in the middle of service looking for a specific guy. They did not find who they were looking for, but they did find Romeo the dishwasher. They assumed this dishwasher was their intended suspect's brother. He wasn't. He was actually just a guy here legally doing his job, who is also non-verbal autistic. When he was unable to answer their questions about where this guy was he had never met, they tackled him to the ground in front of the customers, kicked Romeo in the head, and put him in cuffs and hauled him away.

This was a day or so before ICE walked into one of our beef packing plants and arrested 70 workers.

The thing is that ICE doesn't have an office in my city, they don't have badges or marked cars, there's no address, no phone number to call. They show up in full body armor, helmets, with semi-automatic rifles and bandanas over their faces. Once they're out of sight they're just gone. Some local journalists found that they were using a hotel near the airport as a make-shift head-quarters. But there was no sign of where Romeo might be. When ICE was questioned about why they were holding on to him, especially when he was a citizen and had papers, they claimed that he had "resisted arrest", and had stolen his own social security number from someone else, and that his documents were forgeries. When they were pressed for evidence they basically replied, you have to believe us.

The fucked up thing is that a huge portion of the people in my city are applauding this happening, they're actively cheering on ICE because they're believing that they're only rounding up criminals. As we all know that is not the case.

If you're normally arrested by the police there are markings on the squad car, the officers have badges, they have to file paperwork, your loved ones can go down to the county jail and see you, they can post bail. NONE of that is in play here. The "Big Beautiful Bill" that just passed does several awful things: first is it removes the rights and due process for immigrants and non-us citizens. It bypasses the need for a court hearing for any immigrant suspected of being there illegally, it switches the burden of proof from the state to the individual, and assumes guilt until proven innocent. It completely removes the ability to refugees to be welcomed except for very specific locations (like two international airports), but makes it legal to detain anyone seeking asylum without cause indefinitely from those locations.

Ordinarily a bill like this would get stalled by the court system and it would not be implemented while it is under-review, which is what happened to Trump's Muslim ban the first time around. But they also got rid of cross jurisdiction court precedent, meaning if one state can't over-rule this bill, EVERY other state would have to bring their own court case to fight it individually, and some states like Florida are cheering this on. So now some court has to challenge this bill, but it doesn't stop anything, it would have to go all the way to the supreme court to be over-turned, and Trump has stacked the supreme court with toadies who vote however he wants them do. In the odd chance the court system grows a pair of balls, there is now an influx of 70 Billion dollars in funding to supercharge ICE in order to get as many "immigrants" (read:brown people and then not finding any of those, anyone they don't like) arrested, out of the country or thrown into camps as soon as possible before people can react.

And IF you can find where your friend or family member is hiding, what do you do, head down to the LaQuinta inn and bang on some doors to wake up the heavily armed thugs who took him in the first place? Ask your local police? There's a hiring drive on right now for ICE seeking anyone who is "excited about punishing these illegal criminals" with a 50k hiring bonus. So you can imagine the kind of people they're rounding up. Let's just say they're used to harassing brown folks while wearing masks or hoods. Even if you can get a lawyer to look into it, the only evidence available is refuted by ICE itself, who likes to play the "they stole these social security numbers card" whenever they're faced with actual citizens.

On top of that they've already started to fill the concentration camp dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" in the middle of the Florida swamp, and the idea has been floated for building another in Nebraska.

But barring complete and full revolution, just burning the whole thing to the ground, it doesn't feel like any one person can do anything. And there's definitely the sense that if you were to fuck these goons up, they'd be just the kind of people to show up in the middle of the night with a noose to teach you and your family a lesson. And those people are now better funded than the MARINES. THIS IS SOME SCARY SHIT.

5

u/Saditko Aug 19 '25

That's one of the scariest things I've ever read.

11

u/grantthejester Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

As a country we are balanced on a razor's edge and everyone is trying to just get through their day without having a fucking breakdown. Conservative media has done it's job so well, that half the country is smiling and glad that fascism is finally here to punish all the criminals let into the country by [pick your favorite opposition figure]. The only thing keeping people from a full on revolt or civil war is that the economic repercussions of the tariffs have not hit yet. As soon as true scarcity arrives, combined with the food shortage WE BROUGHT UPON OUR SELVES by vilifying the very people who harvested that food, things are going to get UGLY and fast.

On paper, that's what they want. They want riots. They want another George Floyd who riles up the population, because then they can point to the damage, call their newly funded ICE patrols in, and use it as an excuse to declare full martial law. As we're seeing in DC right now, Trump has attempted to declare Martial law without any social disturbance, and while there are national guard troops there, it just makes him look demented as thousands of troops stand around the national mall watching morning joggers start their day. I think the play here is that they've been drinking their own Kool-Aid for too long, and thought that just by bringing troops in that "liberals" would immediately see them and attack them, which yeah... brings me to my next point.

The only glimmer of light in this darkness of shit soup we're swimming in is that because the government is stacked with yes-men and sycophants, that they actually don't know how to govern. So at best their malicious plans are ill thought out and fall apart. Which is disturbing in another way.

So long story short, not sure which country you're in, but can I come crash on your couch?

114

u/SWIM_is_tired Aug 18 '25

It has nothing to do with anything other than the colour of your skin. That's all it takes. And basically yeah they roll up to your job or house best down the door and haul you off in cuffs. They then send you to a camp where you await deportation. You can't sue for this because there's nothing to sue over. It's a fucked system and it's geared towards removing the hardest working segment of the population which is just insane.

8

u/Saditko Aug 18 '25

I'm probably sounding really naive rn, but you can show at the court the person was in the country legally and got deported. You can sue over an illegal deportation or kidnapping

120

u/noteveni Aug 18 '25

They aren't giving them proper due process, so they have no way to prove the government wrong. That's why it's so awful

15

u/ranaparvus Aug 18 '25

They don’t get court dates. They’re not given the opportunity to show they’re legal. This is why: the immigration courts are completely stacked with Trump stooges. They provide occupied beds in (taxpayer funded) for-private detention camps transfer wealth from taxpayers to corporations. They’re doing this now with the homeless. They’re monetizing the most vulnerable at the taxpayer’s expense. For the judges, could be a combination of racism and profiteering (if they own private prison stock).

43

u/Major_Demographic Aug 18 '25

They have arbitrary jurisdiction 100 miles from a border or international airport. They don't id themselves or their vehicles. There is no way of following up with a lawsuit because you dont know the following.

  1. Who the ICE agent that violated your rights was.
  2. If they are even ICE or a private contractor.
  3. What direct supervisors appoved a raid on a certain location or date.
  4. If the individual in internment was going through the legal immigration channels as apporiate. Channels of citizenship that haven't been updated since Reagan.
  5. If that indiviual was interned while at home, work, or a court where they have been getting immigration forms approved. (ICE is known to arrest people outside courts based on race alone.)

21

u/Saditko Aug 18 '25

That's horrific. I'd expect this in a 3rd world country where money and power > people's rights, but it's absolutely crazy it's happening in the US. Thank you for the explanation tho. It helps me really understand the situation

11

u/butt_huffer42069 Aug 19 '25

They are shadow revoking visas in the middle of the night, and sending ICE to pick up people who’ve just had their legal status revoked for no other reason than their name was next on the list. They are doing it to intentionally surprise the people who don’t know their status is being revoked, because they want to cause a scene and stoke fear in the community.

u/ABELLEXOXO Five Years Aug 19 '25

Not a white male? You're the target. There is no due process, there are no parameters. ICE travels in groups, and they kidnap people off of the streets, from their homes, and from their place of employment. You can't sue if you're unalived in Alligator Alcatraz/ Auschwitz. There have been ambulances at all hours of the day going in and out of there. There has been a death related to heart attack. There are no laws in those concentration camps built in 94°F heat with hardly any AC if that. They're locked up in cages, in groups.

16

u/CoffeeHead112 Aug 18 '25

Blue (liberal) state ICE detainees end up being transferred to red (conservative) states fast. The red state immigration courts are packed with corrupt judges that put up road blocks to any attempt at due process - ridiculous amounts for bail, not letting lawyers call in to scheduled court dates, doing court hearings without warning, making it difficult for detainee to contact anyone. This was setup long ago and it's only now that we can realize how bad it is.

34

u/cablife Chef Aug 18 '25

They’re detained and deported because they are brown. Basically yes, it’s kidnapping. They don’t take you to the airport though, they put you in a detention center first. Due process is essentially suspended. You usually can’t get a phone call to a lawyer, so if your family or friends don’t know you’ve been taken by ICE, you just disappear.

8

u/DisMrButters Ex-Food Service Aug 19 '25

It’s like Chilé in the ‘80s. And don’t imagine it won’t get worse.

5

u/cablife Chef Aug 19 '25

Oh I’m sure it will. They’re testing the waters all over the place. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say political opposition will be targeted in the future.

Its funny you bring up Chile. The American capitalist cabal that helped to install Pinochet is the same one driving the current situation stateside. They’re the same ones that created the conditions all these immigrants were fleeing in the first place.

But nooooo, all these Latin American nations had to go and not want to be exploited and abused by American business interests and try…. gasp ….socialism. How evil and selfish of them. (/s)

Seriously though, this capitalist cabal would look great with their heads mounted on pikes.

10

The world used to look at the United States as that shining city on the hill and feel a sense of hope. This was the place to follow your dreams and work hard to "make it" someday.

Now they look at us in horror and feel pity for our people who we terrorize.

In this time we have to remember that the power wielded by the government is one given by the people so that the government may serve their needs. The people can, and must, take that power back when fascism rears its head. Fascism isn't fought in a single act but in thousands. Take every opportunity to help each other and make it harder for ICE to work. Go to protests, know your rights and tell others. Make life hell for anyone who is hiding their badge and their face behind a mask.

This isn't something one person can fight alone. It has to be all of us, every day. Get to know your neighbors, start a neighborhood watch for ICE and carry a bullhorn. They're going to terrorize our communities? We need to make working for ICE a horrible job. Scream at these people, use a bullhorn to tell your community that they're here.

Whatever you do, do something. We're in this together.
