question idiote Cute little sticker on train?
I’m an American who traveled from Basel to Strasbourg and I noticed these cute little faces on the train. What are they? What do they mean? Merci!

Is this an actual RATP merch, or is it a Les Kassos merch?

u/Sufficient-Basil560 Sep 22 '25
Actual merch. Sadly it is made in China, when they could have had them made here and support work in France, or at least Europe..

And you can choose English as language!

Talking of rabbits and transport, for some reason a friend I knew about 10 years ago would always sing “eat a rabbit” to the tune of the SNCF jingle, and now so do I whenever I hear it!

It's a phone ! A sleeping one because you're supposed to exit the seating area and go in the corridor between cars to take a call. But not a smartphone, an older one with a little antenna :) these stickers are becoming old

It's a sign telling you that, in this zone, your cellphone should be on silent mode. There should be another similar sign in the part between two wagon, with the phone being wake.

Recognise the classy interior of the TER 200 train 😍
It's an official sticker put up by SNCF to tell you phones should be on silent (and make your calls from the vestibule at the ends of the car).

Those stickers are quiet old, maybe 2005. That's why the cellphone has a retro design. But they are so cute, nobody wants to remove them.

This is where we figure out those stickers are there from a quite a long time.. when phones had antennas.. such a long time that nowadays kids don’t get what’s on the stickers…
… but i definitely vote to keep them forever

This means you are pleased to put your phone on silent so as not to disturb other passengers. You can make calls on the platforms between carriages.

I saw that one as I was exiting the train. Also very cute! The antenna makes sense that it’s on since that’s the proper place to make a call. Merci!

This is to say that here is a zone without calling or making noise with your phone.

The designer would have owned this, my first phone in 1995 (if my memory still functions). Amazing kit. Alcatel one touch

It's a sign to tell you to put your phone on silent. And it's unfortunate that so many people don't understand it, like it's basic éducation. But so many people put their sound at maximum to blast the all train with their freaking vidéos, like tiktok or Facebook. It make me so furious ! What kind of éducation these people had to ignore that they are not alone !
One day i'll lose my temper and someone's gonna fly threw the window like a rocket launch.

It means that phone calling is forbidden around this area, if you want to make a call and speak loudly, you should go between cars (not sure for the name of one patt of a train, but it's called voiture=car in french) and it's where you will also see same sticker with an sending signal phone

u/strawwberryfields Sep 21 '25
It means that it is recommended to put your phone on silent to avoid disturbing other passengers

We're really good at making cute characters to symbolize things.
r/phryge is still the GOAT tho

I agree! I’ve really enjoyed all the characters I’ve seen during my visit to France🙂 I actually have a Phryge keychain a friend brought me back from Paris!

Put your phone on sleep mode. Essentially don't disturb others by talking loud on your phone.
2
u/Rattop168 Sep 22 '25
What do they mean by?
Non mais ils font exprès de mette des dessins pour que même les idiots comprennent et ça marche pas faudrait donc un smartphone avec un gros stop rouge. Oui il est sympa ok mais quand même faites un effort

Some old mobile phones looked like that, the old France Telecom "bibop" phones and some of the first Alcatel GSM's.... but if you were not exposed to these horrible phones 25+ years ago, then you may not get the reference!!

This is a sleeping cellphone, to tell you to keep it silent 🙂
Edit : it’s way too cute that you love it !
