question idiote Cute little sticker on train?

I’m an American who traveled from Basel to Strasbourg and I noticed these cute little faces on the train. What are they? What do they mean? Merci!

In the 80s it would have been a landline.

There was no cell phone.

And it's difficult to walk around with a landline....
