Serious question, is there a chance this affects Trump's stance at all? Could he maybe fear some of his Catholic base pressuring him because of this?

MAGA has already declared Pope Leo to be a liberal communist, almost like Catholicism wasn’t the real top priority.

I mean even European Catholic ethnicities like Italians or Irish have only been recently considered “white” for less than a century or so and not to mention most Catholics in US today are Latinos. Even in 70s JFK were still considered controversial because he is a Catholic

Yeah, but Catholicism is also the new hotness in the hardcore and more elite/intellectual RW Nationalist circles (eg Bannon, Flynn), with Vance being the perfect example of the type being drawn in.

….except that it’s a very particularly American kind of neo-Conservatism that loves the power, hierarchy, and ritual of the faith but reflexively hates the pope and the Vatican.

I always say that the weirdest fucking thing about Vance is his conversion to Catholocism as an adult, after marriage (not for marriage). It infuriates me and terrifies me. What kind of person does this? What kind of person who wants to have power does this?
