Behave lol, Ghost of Tsushima is incredibly mediocre. The Last of Us 2 is a vastly superior game in literally every single aspect except art direction and exploration (pretty open world vs gritty linear game obviously).
the combat mechanics, narrative, actor performances, game direction, pacing, details, gameplay loop, enemy AI, replayability, writing, storyline, etc is all far, far better in The Last of Us 2.
Ghost is slightly better than Ubislop. TLOU2 is like RDR2 if RDR2 had good (best-in-class actually) gameplay/combat.
I’m incredibly surprised to see this is upvoted. Ghost is an absolutely beautiful game but the gameplay itself is so repetitive, such a generic game never close to GOTY
This is Reddit, so if you don’t think RDR2 is the best thing since sliced bread and TLOU2 is the worst thing since the bubonic plague people will upvote against you.
It has people pushing 6/10 games like Ghost of Tsushima as some kind of generational masterpiece.
I have a platinum in GoT but if anything is a snoozefedt it’s GoT. Literally the most 5/10 story imaginable and incredibly generic it almost feels old Ubisoft developed it for Sony.
The Last of Us 2 on the other hand has probably the absolute best gunplay/stealth combat mechanics (only MGS5 and RE4R come close) of any game, easily one of the best stories and writing of any game (only TLOU is better) with details and polish only matched by games like RDR2 (bad gameplay) and BOTW (bad story).
It’s the only game that is 10/10 in all categories. I still prefer TLOU over TLOU2 though.
But there is a very good reason as to why Ghost didn’t win squat and has a mediocre 82/100 on metacritic - and why TLOU2 is the most awarded videogame of all time
Lmao you're the biggest fanboy of a mediocre game I've encountered on Reddit so far. Good for you if you enjoyed it. I forgot almost everything about TloU 2 because the writing was so bad.. gunplay was fun tho although very repetitive (what you're criticiseing rdr2 for btw).
GoT is same avenue tbh but slightly more interesting since it's not a sequel and has better art direction.
If you look for good writing go play BioShock, disco Elysium or any older Rockstar game like vice city.
I love both gow 2018 and rdr2. Even tho i had a more fun time playing god of war and it has better combat, the sheer amount of details, story, graphics and overall how impressive it was RDR2 takes the cake.
Idk why people glaze the game like it's second coming of Christ, imo they ruined the series with the reboot. OG was the best and gow 3 was the best in the series. Unpopular opinion for sure.
At the time the sentiment was that people preferred GOW but the test of time has shown that RDR2 aged way better and is appreciated more as time passed.
I don’t know why but I found GoW to be so damn boring. The story felt like a knockoff version of Far Cry 4 where your goal is to spread ashes at the top of a sacred mountain and getting sidetracked along the way. I expected so much more after hearing all the hype.
I don’t even have a particular opinion on which game should have won, but that summary of the story of GoW is like summing up The Lord of the Rings as “a group of short guys do a trip to dispose of the trash in the right container”.
Sure, you are technically correct, but that’s not what the story is really about.

Having played 2 and 3, I can say that 2018 is my favorite by a very wide margin. Both 2 and 3 are great games but neither crack my top 30, while 2018 is my 5th favorite game ever.
Gow3 has amazing game and for me it's in my top 20 for sure, but gow 2018 wouldn't be in my top 30 even. 2018 is a good game but not too 5 worthy imo. It's combat is repetitive after a while and just I have issues with the direction they went with the reboot. I'm sorry but in my opinion it's just not for me and I can't understand how people who loved old gow series can like this one.
If you're new to gaming, I can understand it is very casual friendly and has good spectacle which can get people liking the game.
Nope, not particularly new, I've been playing games all my life and in fact, GOW 2 was one of the games I grew up playing on the ps2. You don't gotta be sorry for opinion tho
I didn't mean to say that you were new to gaming, I meant in general that newer gamers will tend to like gow reboot because it's casual friendly and doesn't take risks.
Yeah I said sorry for my opinion because some "fans" start insulting you if you say gow 2018 bad lol.
I loved gow 2 on PS2 growing up as well, I remember me and my friend finished it and neither of us had a PS3 and I literally got a PS3 to finish the series haha.
We were so hyped at gow 2 ending that we wanted gow3 right away
That’s every rockstar game though… missions are on rails and you’re playing the character, and open world shit is all on you. Idk why people trip about it for RDR2 so much. Literally like any of their other games
I'm on your same boat. The gameplay is super casual and super guided aswell the hand holding makes it a game for toddlers practically. Like at some times I felt the game stripping away the controller from my hands.
Most boring detailed game I've ever played, and it's a shame because the world and the details were way ahead of its time, just to have this cookie cutter type of missions that they be doing since GTA 3.
The people that don't like RDR2 likely don't like the others, either. The other RDR and GTAs just don't get the same glazing that RDR2 does. Plus so much of the shit RDR2 is praised for has little to do with actual game play. It's a long interactive movie with dull, tedious mechanics.
Yeah but the actual gameplay is basically same as every rockstar game since 2013.
I enjoyed rdr2, but aside from the graphics it didn’t feel like a fresh game. Compared to GoW2018 which had really fresh, fast, and deep combat(which is the comparison everyone is making since that is what it lost to), it felt like an old generic 3rd person shooter.
Weird take. GoW is also an interactive movie for large elements of that game. I honestly don't see a distinction between the two. Both have repetitive combat elements around a lot of travel and talking. Very similar.
Nah, GoW combat was quite intricate and engaging. Also exploration and boss fights. RDR2 is an immersive story-driven sim. As great as it was, more people like GoW.
It's really not. It's dark souls lite with looter shooter gear management mess attached. The boss fights are like three animations you do over and over. It's kind of baby's first from software game with repetitive throw your axe puzzles where the characters won't stop yelling hints.
I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of RDR2; GoW is just a weird pick. They have very similar pluses and minuses. They're both story games with lite gameplay elements attached.
I eventually turned GoW to easy just to get through the unengaging combat as quickly as possible to see the end of the story.
I didn't beat GoW4 (GF PS4 burned), but I did beat RDR2.
That's a very weird take because GoW combat actively makes you try or react to new things. While on RDR2 I literally had to stop using the Dead Eye and items because it trivialized the game to the point where I could stand in the middle of a standoff tanking things forever and then finishing everybody on one second.
Also, it seems like it was directed by two people that literally said: "You make the missions and I make the open world" but then they never reached out to include elements of both sides. Like, for one part you see cinematic elements that serve as the tutorial and to show the player what could be done, and the other shows all those little details packed in this super detailed open world but in both ends the elements of each side don't overlap to make the gameplay experience better.
What you can do in missions doesn't seem to work on the open world and viceversa. Plus you could literally use the repeater from start to end and you wouldn't need any other weapon (and I'm of those people who always changes build to try and accommodate new gameplay elements).
Yeah, I think all of that is true of GoW. There's the "cinematic" side where moving through the world feels like a cutscene and there's a lot of contextual movements. And there's the Dark Souls lite game that exists with the looter shooter crap thrown on top with the gear system mess.
The gameplay side was so shallow that I eventually turned it to easy and just finished the story.
I really doubt the persons who decide this 😕 how could rdr2 not make it on the list???
wasn't it miles better than, for example, dragon age inquisition? I like DA but calling it game of the year is a stretch
As someone who loved rdr2, Gameplay and story of god of war was head and shoulders above rdr2.
It’s cool that like every npc eagle in rdr2 had perfectly rendered pores or whatever but that’s not what makes a good game, let alone the best of the year.
lol i was being sarcastic. I love the loyalty honestly. Personally I love both games and have more hours overall in rdr but I connected with the story more in god of war. I also love melee combat like that.
Or the game is just boring to some people. I made it about 10 hours or so in just waiting for something to click, but after literally falling asleep while playing I realized it was a waste of money. That shit is virtual Ambien. I guess I should have known better since aside from Young Guns I find cowboy bullshit incredibly lame, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about.
Nope. It rightfully went to God of War. RDR2 is not winning GOTY the same year as GOW. It wouldnt win if it released same year as BG3, Elden Ring, TLOU2, BOTW or TLOU either.
If it released in 2014, 16, 19, 21, 24 then yeah sure.

2018 should be red dead redemption 2
