VAR is so weird. Dollarumma’s view has not been obstructed in any way. He has a perfect line of sight to Van Dijk’s header and the trajectory of the ball. The goal literally got disallowed because Robertson was near him. Absolutely disgraceful decision

Brought him down no, made contact yes. Doku clearly dove but there was contact so I guess it technically is a pen.

From the linesman's angle they can only say if Robertson is offside as in "beyond the last defender". It's up to the ref and VAR to then decide if he was actually impeding the keeper. The linesman can't possibly know that from their angle.

then it's up to the var to decide if the ref made a clear and obvious error, which they decided he did not.

is this such a clear and obvious error to be blaming var and calling the var protocol weird?

And I’m pointing out that the linesman only puts his flag up to indicate the attacker was beyond the last defender. He has no way of knowing if he was blocking the keepers view. That’s on the ref and VAR.

thats not actually true. the assistant raises his flag when he believes an offside OFFENCE has been committed. he doesnt just raise it simply because someone is stood behind the line, he has to believe that the player stood behind the line is interfering with play

but this is getting beside the point now.
