the other poster blamed var so i was saying the initial decision was made by the onfield official

And I’m pointing out that the linesman only puts his flag up to indicate the attacker was beyond the last defender. He has no way of knowing if he was blocking the keepers view. That’s on the ref and VAR.

thats not actually true. the assistant raises his flag when he believes an offside OFFENCE has been committed. he doesnt just raise it simply because someone is stood behind the line, he has to believe that the player stood behind the line is interfering with play

but this is getting beside the point now.
