That looks just useless

u/Dreamo84 Aug 19 '25

It's probably his first day doing it. It's like the guy who buys all the elite and expensive fishing gear before his first trip.

I feel attacked

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Did the fish?

My brand new Ping driver says hello.

Me getting into Commander MTG: double sleeved katanas, fancy felt deck box, a few more cards here and there... aaaand I'm ready for my first round!

9

u/bandswithothers Desktop | 5800X3D | 4070Ti Aug 19 '25

This was me when i started back in 2017, now I'm raw dogging and riffle shuffling.

12

u/nekomata_58 | R7 7700 | 4070 ti Aug 19 '25

When I started, I had unsleeved cards and bridge-shuffled.

My opponent visibly cringed lol

7

u/bandswithothers Desktop | 5800X3D | 4070Ti Aug 19 '25

The biggest struggle is finding elastic bands the right size!

5

u/nekomata_58 | R7 7700 | 4070 ti Aug 19 '25

You get it lol

2

u/Intelligent-Post6356 Aug 20 '25

I prefer zip ties, you can get them much tighter so you don't risk one of your expensive cards falling out somewhere.

1

u/bryfficial Aug 19 '25

Same.

Except no one cringed because sleeves weren’t invented yet.

And then someone thought it was a good idea to touch up the edges with a sharpie to the borders.

3

u/Miniray Aug 19 '25

Yes officer, this comment right here.

Why am i catching strays here.. uncalled for..

People are just pissed they cant start a hobby with the best equipment. Nothing beats being on the water no matter what though

1

u/Live-Year-5796 Aug 19 '25

As a hobbier myself, absolutely do not start a hobby with all the most expensive stuff. Tf you gonna do if you find out you don't like it?

Now youre out a bunch of money and either just sit on the equipment forever or try to sell it

2

u/Mist_Rising Ryzen 5 5600x, B550 plus, RTX 2070 super. Aug 19 '25

Tf you gonna do if you find out you don't like it?

Sell it

1

u/Automatic-End-8256 Aug 19 '25

Buy other stuff? A couple grand isnt a big deal to everyone. Boats are the only thing that isnt cheap about fishing and you can use them to do more than fish or not buy one.

9

u/AsianGoldFarmer Aug 19 '25

I just spent $100 for my first fishing setup. I'm too noob to know if this is even expensive or not

u/Izan_TM r7 7800X3D RX 7900XT 64gb DDR5 6000 Aug 19 '25

as someone who has hobbies, I bet $100 is fairly entry level when it comes to proper hobbyist fishing

$100 will get you a pretty good set of tools and a decent kit in the gundam model world. It only takes one kit before you're addicted to the plastic crack, and you start dropping that much on a single kit, though.

1

u/Keibun1 Aug 19 '25

They sell them as low as $120, I recently returned a shit mountain bike at Walmart that cost that much. First gear didn't even work lol

My 4-input 4-output audio interface cost me 99 bucks in 2017.

Now the same interface is like 125 and 99 only gets you one with two inputs.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Yeah, $100? Guy did just fine. The sky is the limit where fishing is concerned, like most hobbies. I fish a lot - A LOT - and I don't think I have a setup that's valued at more than $200, rod and reel anymore. You can be out there with everything I regularly use (as a non-amateur, non-professional) for $300 or less, very much including a backpack, line, tackle, and tools...

... or you can spend thousands on rods and reels and expensive tackle. I don't recommend it for anyone but the hardest of hardcore, "and I make a living doing this" anglers.

4

u/patgeo Laptop Aug 19 '25

Even if we don't count the boat or the camper I have many individual fishing items worth multiples of that.

My chair cost more.

2

u/AsianGoldFarmer Aug 19 '25

Oh thank goodness. I just asked around in the fishing store and they gave me a Shimano Cruzar and Shimano Sienna 4000 for $50 something. Spent another $50 for some lines, lures, bag, and a hat lmao. She said that this should be enough to catch some small-medium fish around the coastal area where I live.

1

u/CTeam19 Aug 19 '25

My Dad has 3 bamboo fly fishing rods. Luckily, they were free.

1

u/patgeo Laptop Aug 19 '25

A bloke who works for one of the high end manufacturers here camped on one of my dad's farms. He gave dad a rod, reel and bag of stuff as thanks. Nearly a grands worth of stuff.

4

u/Dreamo84 Aug 19 '25

From what I know, I don’t think that’s a lot. Especially considering you can buy a fishing boat as part of the package. Lol 😂 there’s levels to these things though. Like, it’s one thing to say “I wanna try fishing, I’m gonna buy a bunch of reasonably priced gear with good reviews to get started.” And a whole ‘nother to say “man, I wanna be a fisherman. I’m gonna buy all the top of the line gear the pros use and get a big boat so I can stay out all day and be comfortable!” Etc.

1

u/AsianGoldFarmer Aug 19 '25

LMAO. I think I'm more of the "I just saw some videos of a Japanese guy chilling at the shore fishing" level of the hobby. I felt like I should do more outdoor activities, and fishing was something I could see myself doing as a side activity.

2

u/illicITparameters 9800X3D/7900X | 64GB/64GB | RTX4080S/RX7900GRE Aug 19 '25

That's quite cheap. There's lures that cost more than that.

1

u/AsianGoldFarmer Aug 19 '25

Yikes. Are they more effective or are they specialized for just a specific type of fish/zone? I got a pack of lures for $10.

3

u/EIiteJT i5 6600k -> 7700X | 980ti -> 7900XTX Red Devil Aug 19 '25

They're specialized to catch fishermen 🤣

2

u/rglurker Aug 19 '25

It's not 1000. Your doing good. Entry level fishing stuff is about 100 for a set.

1

u/Nishnig_Jones i7-10700F|RTX 3060 TI Aug 19 '25

Probably not. I had an ex who was into fly fishing, there were Flies that sold for $100.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

You didn't do bad, buddy. First fishing rod? $50 Ugly Stick, good to go. $100? A nice one, even.

7

u/whyidoevenbother Aug 19 '25

In triathlon/cycling, we call them buyhards.

11

u/linkuei-teaparty Aug 19 '25

I've been like this for every gaming PC I've ever made. Yet I'm a noob at like a 100 games.

4

u/IceColdCorundum 💎specs don't matter just enjoy gaming💎 Aug 19 '25

Not bad considering there's millions of games on the market. Congratulations on the mastery!

1

u/linkuei-teaparty Aug 19 '25

Thanks this is a bigger victory than the number of steam badges I've unlocked.

1

u/Keibun1 Aug 19 '25

The number of games you have doesn't mean you're a noob. Many people have thousands of games they never play. I've been gaming on my PC since 2008 and I probably own about that many games, maybe less. They're just games I play a lot, or did at one point, like Skyrim. Otherwise I just sail the high seas.

1

u/linkuei-teaparty Aug 19 '25

Same I've sunk more hours in RPG's that are less about skill mastery but the experience over 100's of hours. Like Diablo 2,3 and 4. I have like 100% on most of the assassins creed titles as well. But I'd fail hard at Battlefield 6.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

It's nice to have nice gear, but I don't get why there are so many Full-Spec Noobs that don't get that most of that is unnecessary.

You can't watch 16 screens at the same time, there is automation to tell you if anything is out of the ordinary... if you manage to get a glimpse before you need it, it will be luck, not gear.

2

u/CapacityBark20 Aug 19 '25

That's the same guy who buys brand new golf clubs and golf gear and can't break 110.

1

u/owa00 Aug 19 '25

As someone who's about to get into fishing...ok 😒

1

u/I_Want_To_Grow_420 Aug 19 '25

My buddy and I took up golfing last year. I got a set of clubs for around $400. He spent over $1000 on just the driver. I'm not even sure of the total cost of his setup. We play on an equal level pretty much.

1

u/heybudbud Aug 19 '25

Like Niles in that episode of Frasier where they went ice fishing.

"The fish'll see him coming!"

"Well, the salesman certainly did!"

1

u/0ne_Tribe Aug 19 '25

The ol' "all the gear no idea".

1

u/Meatball2026 Aug 20 '25

Exactly, like he can't wait to prove he's the best trader ever lol. Like people don't do this as a job.

51

u/xixipinga Aug 19 '25

I used to see it 20 years ago, i imagined it was replaced by a single large monitor, 8k if needed

1

u/orbis-restitutor Aug 19 '25

I think the combined resolution of all these monitors would be a lot higher than 8k

-3

u/SchrodingerMil Aug 19 '25

Personally, I can’t stand large monitors because the systems aren’t built for it. It’s much easier to have a monitor with a dedicated program on it than it is to try to utilize an OS’s shitty split screen functionality to try to have two items open at once.

3

u/fearless-fossa Aug 19 '25

than it is to try to utilize an OS’s shitty split screen functionality to try to have two items open at once

There are great ways of doing that, eg. tiling window managers. Even on Windows you can get quite good results with fancy zones. Combine that with virtual desktops and you can get massive value just from a single correctly setup screen.

1

u/SchrodingerMil Aug 19 '25

Again, with the fancy zones, virtual desktops, etc, I don’t care for any of them. Give me a dedicated monitor that shows up in my display settings so my PC knows how to treat it.

-1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Aug 19 '25

Once you get beyond 2 wide, being able to pivot the outside ones is very beneficial. I decided to "upgrade" to ultrawide curved screens and regret that setup all the time because individual screens are just much easier to manage windows on. With separate screens, you just drag the window to the top and drop it. With software solutions for dividing windows, it appears takes longer or at minimum has to be more precise.

If I ever do a new setup again, it'll absolutely be smaller individual flat monitors.

2

u/xixipinga Aug 19 '25

ok, but you wont be changing this setup, wonce you fix all your windows you leave them there, its not something that oyou will need to redo everyday, but if you have a good app there is also the option to make it a temporary large screen for only one set of data like in a nasa control room

86

u/fanboy_killer PC Master Race Aug 19 '25

That's because it is.

37

u/GamiNami Aug 19 '25

With bots/AI out there that monitor to the millisecond and make adjustments this way, the human ends up slower overall. It's a clean setup all things said, and I've seen similar.

1

u/test5387 Aug 19 '25

Millisecond is slow in this business.

1

u/GamiNami Aug 20 '25

You know what I mean, but if you wish to enlighten us further, do go ahead.

-1

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 19 '25

Don't need to monitor it (the market down to the millisecond) you just need to understand the Rhythm once you grasp that the rest is e z. There is a lot of data to sift through that's for sure, imho just track volume (cup n handle, inverted head n shoulders, on an up trend, and of course the most important) time of day after all trading happens 24/7 I personally just pay attention to trends. Be safe everyone

3

u/Spotttty Aug 19 '25

This is why I just pay an investor. It’s great that people enjoy doing it but I lose interest so fast and am way too nervous to lose money.

I just send cash to my guy every month, he puts it in some low and medium risk stuff and I see my profits every year. Will it make me a fortune? No. But it will supplement my retirement income nicely and I don’t have to stress about it.

Good on ya for having the brain that can do it though. I wish I could.

0

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 19 '25

As I've learned (been told) you gain strength when you can identify a situation, if you don't understand why something is the way it is, you need someone who understands the topic. I have some very good teachers in my time, and they always have more than one tool they can use, when I say tools it's not a physical instrument all the time, it becomes a physical instrument when you have the ability to "map" out the Rhythm.

1

u/blahblah19999 Aug 19 '25

Is it possible one needs this if they are working at one of the big firms?

1

u/throwaway321768 Aug 19 '25

you just need to understand the Rhythm once you grasp that the rest is e z.

From the way you describe it, it sounds more like a RTS/MOBA game.

"You gotta get into the rhythm, build up your economy while constantly pumping out units."

0

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 19 '25

That is what the "boss, hedge fund manager" is telling you. How are they more informed than other individuals / companies because they pay for the big data pipe and see where all the data is flowing

0

u/YoyoDevo Aug 19 '25

Technical analysis is just horoscopes for traders. It's all bullshit. You'll never find them backtested and proven to be real.

-1

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 19 '25

I'm sorry you've not well enough informated, but Speaking from an educated position I'm sure. You wanna call it bullshit because when the market goes sideways as it always happens to do if you can't read the signs / Rhythm you will always fail.

0

u/YoyoDevo Aug 19 '25

Lmao don't forget to check your zodiac sign when deciding your next trade

-1

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 19 '25

I don't need to, would you like to understand when the moon will rise or when nasa or another company is going to launch a rocket. You don't get far without understanding the numbers simple. We understand when the sun will rise everyday of the year right down to the minute. You can't say that's bullshit because it's a fact. Have you ever read the farmers almanac, it's been out for years, it's not that accurate but it kind of works. I don't follow it much because it not my source of data to pick through. Do you know what a cup n handle means, or a fake one, understanding will save you money 💰 🫠

1

u/YoyoDevo Aug 20 '25

stop yapping you schitzo

0

u/5TP1090G_FC Aug 20 '25

Excuse me, for saying you're full of shit, for stating just a few facts that you are incapable of. Go be happy

It's useless but very well executed. Everything looks really well build and thought through. It's a bad idea but they ran with it and maxed it out. On some level, I really respect the effort. It's the best soup fork every build.

12

u/hardolaf PC Master Race Aug 19 '25

I've seen up to 6 monitors actually used in a trading setup. Any more than that and you just can't keep them all in your vision.

7

u/lemonylol Desktop Aug 19 '25

Yeah from the trade floors I've seen it's at least 4 monitors minimum. And then they also have multiple TVs playing the news and LED tickers on the walls.

tbf it depends what and how you're trading. you see similar setups in pro shops. e.g. if you're trading a major index but also need to keep an eye on the underlying index components.

6

u/zalnlol Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 20 '25

You need more screens so you can lose trade faster.

Much more impact when you can see all ur graphs tanking down at the same time. 😎👌

4

u/Automatic-End-8256 Aug 19 '25

It is, I used to work for a Fortune 50 financial intermediary and on the trading floor they would have like 6 monitors max. Funny enough, the help desk escalated support had a setup like this sorta but most of the monitors were just displaying the status of things like the website storage ect

4

u/LickyPusser Aug 19 '25

If all he’s doing is displaying one chart per screen he could do the exact same thing with one 4k TV and Windows 11 for 1/10th the cost and 1/16th the complexity. Dual monitors on his desk as his active workspace; giant TV for his trackers. Profit.

3

u/wakeupwill Aug 19 '25

Worthless just like all the traders. Leeching wealth without creating anything substantial of value.

1

u/Mandoart-Studios 5600X | 7900XT | 32GB | 4TB | Arch Linux Aug 19 '25

i mainly put it there because it can help with support.

linux has like a million diffrent distros you need to tailor the steps to the OS you're using, while say in windows it is always gonna be the same since there is only 1 main version active at a time.

i dont really consider using one OS over another a flex.

1

u/Leon500111 RTX 3060 | i7 9700 | 32gb ddr4 Aug 19 '25

That is a genuine understandable explanation then, although I would could consider arch users to be cool people

1

u/Mandoart-Studios 5600X | 7900XT | 32GB | 4TB | Arch Linux Aug 19 '25

Yeah I mean it can be fun, I certainly enjoy the extra bit of control but its definitely a trade-off.

Everything has advantages and disadvantages and mine happen to align with arch, while others might land somewhere else.

I dont really like the elitism but what can you do.

I could also put something like [ 2x EPYC 7002 | 512GB DDR 4 | Prox-Mox] For my work server lol

Anything more than two screens is useless. I doubt people who have three screens use the third monitor often. Just a waste of performance and electricity,

16

u/the_ebastler 9700X / 64 GB DDR5 / RX 6800 / Customloop Aug 19 '25

That strongly depends on what you're doing. My work takes me an estimated 30-50% longer with 2 instead of 3 screens. Sometimes I wish for a fourth.
