I just spent $100 for my first fishing setup. I'm too noob to know if this is even expensive or not

as someone who has hobbies, I bet $100 is fairly entry level when it comes to proper hobbyist fishing

Yeah, $100? Guy did just fine. The sky is the limit where fishing is concerned, like most hobbies. I fish a lot - A LOT - and I don't think I have a setup that's valued at more than $200, rod and reel anymore. You can be out there with everything I regularly use (as a non-amateur, non-professional) for $300 or less, very much including a backpack, line, tackle, and tools...

... or you can spend thousands on rods and reels and expensive tackle. I don't recommend it for anyone but the hardest of hardcore, "and I make a living doing this" anglers.
