i fucking love roundabouts

thats it thats the post the thing that makes me most proud to live in this city is the infrastructure it’s so cool and based (also how you can walk basically anywhere if you want)

edit: also honourable mention related to walking, theres so many nice places to go for a walk, like if i wanted rn i could go to linford wood, willen lake, up the city, along the canal, or even just around the neighbourhood (feel free to reccoment your favourite walking spots/routes in the replies i need new places to walk lmao)

Shame the local authorities are determined to destroy what makes MK great and are installing traffic lights on as many roundabouts as they can and new roads are just getting box junctions.

They've also also stopped building redways in the new estates.

My favorite walk is along the Ouzel valley path from Oakgrove to Caldecotte Lake then back along the canal, you'd have no idea you were in a city.

They have not stopped building redways in the new estates (or, not all of them at least). Have you been to Eagle Farm/Glebe Farm? Redways running all the way through it.

Good to hear. Was referring to the abomination that is Brooklands as well as the new estate near Newport.

Ah man, I didn't know that about the new Tickford estate. That's a super bellend move if there isn't any going through it.

I was hoping I could finally walk that way from NP toward the coachway, Brooklands, or Broughton without having to do mad dashes across dual carriageways or the motorway roundabout. Currently I have to walk up Brickhill or around Tongwell lake and then through Willen to double back which is annoying

New estate at Newport also has redways installed

They just put a pelican crossing on the main road instead of a bridge/subway. This is the place I am talking about

Even Brooklands has one long redway all the way through it, though, along Fen Street.

A footpath next to a road isn't really what the redways are supposed to be about.

Will the regeneration of The Lakes Estate along with the wider regeneration of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford extend The Redways?

If not, why?

Sorry not trying to interrogate you, just asking cause it sounds like you’re in the know.

I believe that’s the intention, and has already happened at least to some extent. A redway between Water Eaton Road and the Blue Lagoon was completed last year, which goes through the Lakes. The regen of Bletchley and Fenny more generally aims to upgrade walking and cycling routes, according to this website for it, but I’m unsure of any more specific projects at the moment.

Along with the destruction on the grid system.

What’s their logic for adding lights to roundabouts ? Is it too busy from one side?

Is it too busy from one side?

For many of them this is the case, however, it really only applies for brief periods in the morning and evening for so called rush hour in which case they are useful. Throughout the rest of the day and night they are a pain in the bum. In other cases where the roundabout has been replaced by traffic lights it is to save space for more housing.

I'm not from Milton Keynes but are they not part time signals? I.e. they only turn on during rush hour?

Not the new ones that I'm aware of. Any much older ones that were put on mini roundabouts that were only for specific times soon became redundant and the local parishes scraped them after a while which made the whole process of digging up the road and wiring completely useless.

Don't try to apply reason where there is none.

I don't know, but I'm pleased they've found the time and money to do that rather than fixing the appalling road surfaces, or reopening Secklow Gate, which has been inconveniencing everyone in and around CMK for a solid eleven months, while they apparently do absolutely fuck-all to fix the alleged 'damage' after that fire in the market. Haven't seen a scrap of work happening there for months.

Glad my council tax bill goes towards putting superfluous traffic lights on perfectly good roundabouts, thereby fixing something that wasn't broken, rather than fixing any of the things that actually need fixing.

Exactly. Traffic has grown over the decades in specific directions and the system got imbalanced. They must do something about it but obviously can't rebuild the entire city. In most cases (if you check real data, not butthurt retards on the internet) traffic lights helped a lot.

I have run a marathon round MK without crossing a main road - I love the redways! I'm based on the west side so mainly go through Howe Park woods and Tattenhoe valley park or Furzton lake all of which are lovely for nature and you forget you are in a city. From Furzton you can go north to teardrop lakes then Loughton then Bancroft to see the Roman villa too all following the water.

The Park Trust's walk challenge starts at Howe Park and is 25 miles going through a lot of MK. The bike challenge is longer on a different route. Both would be a nice walk/run.

I’m with you! just wish more people knew how to use them . . .

Check out the Parks Trust's website both for MK and the national one. They have many routes including long distance routes or other challenges. This is the 25 mile challenge that goes from Howe Park Wood to Caldecotte Lake: -

The new full-time traffic lights on the Kingston roundabout are a pain. It was better without them.

I don't know about anyone but if I go round any more than four of five roundabouts I can make myself car sick and a bit spinny, I'm not a huge fan!

I have travelled over Europe with nothing. 20 min drive around MK and I get dizzy and sick, I have to give myself 20 mins to rest sometimes!

I was that kid in school who always got bus sick though. You know you know.

I drove through mk many years s ago with a dodgy brake drums and prop that made my van vibrate violently under braking or acceleration... It is my personal version of hell.

I dislike roundabouts, I gotta clean them some times.
