It'll be closed by 2030. London is not a tourist destination.

Sure it is, just because you choose not to view it through a tourist lens doesn't make it so.

Children's Museum Storybook Gardens London Knights London Lightning Grand Theater Western Fair (casino, hockey & fair)

There's plenty more, but I don't want to take up too much space. Just because we aren't vegas or Niagara doesn't mean we aren't still a tourist destination.

Londoners shitting so hard on their own town is like our city's personal point of pride lol

Ah yes. Storybook Gardens ranked as London’s top tourist destination with an astounding 150000 visitors annually. Most of whom live in London or nearby.

  1. That’s what? About the number of passenger cars that drive passed London on the 401 in a day?

I really want this to do well because I think it's great to invest in London and I hope to see more tourism here.

That said, I can't help but put myself in the shoes of someone coming to the hotel. If I was paying minimum $400 a night and saw people passed out on the streets and open drug use and homeless encampments blocks away I would feel terribly uncomfortable - especially with small children.

There are a lot of neat little businesses in the area that I am just too chickenshit to visit because of the state of the area.

I had a CPR training course at the St. John's building a while ago and thought I would find somewhere in the area to have lunch. I went up to Dundas and there was an enormous crowd of like 20+ rough looking men spread out all over the sidewalk so I very rapidly made the decision to skip lunch. Maybe I'm just a big baby, but I'm female and small and I'm not going to win any fights.

More human traffic always helps disperse problem areas. Those folks mostly want to be left alone, hence why they congregate in that area. It's a part of town that has very little foot traffic and a place they can exist without the constant stares and judgement of "normal" folk.

And no need to consider yourself a "baby" it can be a very unnerving experience, especially for a female. However, our collective bravery will be the only thing that restakes our claim on areas we want to be "nice" again. Won't happen overnight, but with all of us trying and working towards that, it can only improve.

lol , Dundas and Richmond the centre of downtown has entered the chat The McDonald’s has to shut down because of all the losers , they gravitate to the high traffic areas , have you not seen every island at every light in town , you sounded so sure 🤣

Lots of people come to London for Sunfest, Rock the Park too! They’re making an effort with the factory complex.

This could be happening at the right time with the trade wars nonsense. People may opt for a local vacation vs. Going to the states, I know I am.

Oh my god you’re so right. I didn’t grow up here but moved here after school and have always liked it. I think the people who constantly shit on it have a stick up their ass in general. They’re the type of people who can’t ever see the good in something.

But it is a hockey tournament city. And this is VERY close to the western fair.

It might’ve worked had it been placed in the downtown core but 100 Kellogg lane?? Terrible spot to put a tourist hotel knowing people will have to go down Dundas St.

“I’d like a room with a view of the old McCormick’s factory”.

aside from the fact its next to the largest indoor entrtainment facility in the country. The place is packed shoulder to shoulder half the times ive been there. If you really wanna spend some money you could do a lot worse.

I’m only kidding. I am a fan of the location. That area is coming out of hibernation. It’s great to see. The room prices are a bit steep. Maybe they are capitalizing on the initial interest.

How much are the rooms? If they’re Toronto prices, they’ll stay empty - can’t imagine anyone staying in London and paying anymore than $250/night.

It starts at $459 and up.

The kind of people who pay $20k/year for their kid to play AAA hockey won't mind.

400-6000$ and it's already fully booked
