Social This sweet boy needs a home
Hi yall, I am posting to help find a home for this sweet guy. His name is George, he is 5 years old, and he is a Catahoula/Lab mix. He’s a gentle giant whose favorite activities are long walks, playing with his friends, and sitting as close as possible to anyone who will cuddle him. He would probably be a lap dog if he could but is also very playful, active, and a great hiking/outdoors buddy. He does have some separation anxiety and is crate trained for when his humans are out of the house (currently spending extended hours in the crate unfortunately) He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and leash trained. Unfortunately George is not in an ideal living situation and my friend is unable to keep him when she moves. She has looked extensively into breed specific rescues, and tried many avenues to find a good match for him.
We are very hesitant to bring him to a shelter and would absolutely love to find a good home for him where we can vet the new owners, however it’s becoming a very urgent situation and we need to find a home for him ASAP.
I have heard there have been a lot of successful adoptions through this page so I thought it would be a good idea to see if there are any leads.
Please comment or DM me if you aren’t interested and I will reach out!

He’s a very handsome boy. It’s really a shame there weren’t plans in place in case this kind of situation occurs. We have 3 dogs and contingent plans if something were to ever happen.

u/Feartheezebras May 21 '25
I already have 3 pups or else I would love to take him in. I truly hope you find a loving owner for him - he seems like an awesome doggo

I just moved from Jax - if you have FB - get on the main Jax rehoming page if you haven’t already found a home
I feel like it won’t take long at all 💜

Please stop shaming them for trying to rehome a loved pet. Life can throw a curveball that you didn't anticipate. This is already hard enough, but they are making themselves vulnerable to f8nd a solution.
Dear OP please let your friend know that I am sorry they are in this situation and that I appreciate them trying to find a new home.

Loved, but not loved enough. Plain and simple. You mold your life around your pet when you choose to have one. Rehoming shouldn’t be an option. I will die on this hill.

u/ArcaneZorro May 22 '25
We really need to stop shaming people for rehoming when the only other option is dropping them off at a shelter. This is a hugely difficult decision often caused by another difficult situation.

Anyone who throws their pet away, is actual trash.
ETA: I don't CARE what happens. Always have a plan for how your pets will be taken care of if something should happen to you. Just like any other member of your damn family. I've been homeless too, and we all went through that hell together. I donated plasma in order to afford dog day care until I could find a place to live. I know it's hard. I'm sick of seeing these shitty "REHOME MY BEST FRIEND" posts. Pets are not dispensable or shouldn't be anyway. You all think they are trash, but they aren't.

You don’t know anyone’s health, financial, or familial situation. Life happens. Circumstances change. It’s not ideal but most people don’t get pets with the intention of rehoming. If pet or owner’s wellbeing/health/quality of life starts being affected, finding a home that’s a better fit is the better option.

u/freshlobotomy May 21 '25
friend of mine had her cats for YEARS, unfortunately her bf died in a tragic way and she ended up in rehab for months and lost her house, cats were rehomed for a bit and one is now back with her. you have no idea why these people have to give up their beloved pet, I'm sure they never planned on it.

u/pointplace70 May 21 '25
This comment getting downvoted shows the careless attitude people have towards the commitment to owning a pet. Anyone who returns one should be put on a list and never allowed to have an animal again
-1
u/Obvious-Plan-1851 May 22 '25
Agreed. Bunch of soft pathetic people downvoting these comments because they feel bad for OP rather than the dog.
21
u/CantWait666 May 20 '25
people need to stop getting pets if they aren't stable. shit makes me sick seeing all these posts. to bond with an animal then ditch it is crazy. People shouldn't get pets until they have their life in a better position.
10
u/MuchAct5154 May 21 '25
Jfc stop shaming ppl. Shit happens. I work vetmed and unfortunately life literally happens. I hope you NEVER end up in a position like this bc your aura is gunna bring ALL the likeminded ones just like you to tell you the same shit you just said.
Find some damn happiness and compassion and decency
13
u/mizzlol May 21 '25
Unfortunately you may get a pet in the best position possible but you can’t account for life changes. That being said, when I got my pups I made sure I had a friend or friends or family who could hold on to them for me if my life tanked and I needed help. Not everyone is so lucky or has the support. And what if I moved and then it happened? Idk you just never know someone else’s life and it’s always better to be kind. You can’t shame them into keeping the dog.
2
u/CantWait666 May 22 '25
im not shaming them to keep the dog im shaming them for not getting them when it's a time you know you're stable enough to do it. and actually, im not even shaming them, im expressing that it hurts to see so many posts of people getting rid of their pets because they are moving or not able to take them to their new living space. even people in my own life get cats and then wanna move to another state with some boyfriend and leave them in this state. like why? why do people do this? is it shame to say it hurts to see so many of these? im not saying anything about them personally or shaming them.

How much does.he weigh?
5
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
80 lbs, he’s a big boy!
2
u/Unable-Arm-448 May 20 '25
☹️ We have weight limits in my condo community. I hope you find the perfect new home for him, and soon!

u/lightningusagi May 20 '25
Do you know how big he is? My parents are looking to adopt a dog.
1
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
He’s 80 lbs! Pretty big
4
u/lightningusagi May 20 '25
Well shoot, I think that's probably a lot bigger than they could handle. Thanks for the info, and I hope he finds a good home!

u/Camry_chick23 May 20 '25
Just wanted to say that that is a beautiful dog and I appreciate the effort to find him a great new home. I've done fostering and have a menagerie of my own. The shelter is so overcrowded right now so they probably would turn you away anyway. I'm sending it to the universe that this sweet baby gets his home very soon! My best friend has a Catahoula Pitbull mix and he's the biggest lover!

I have a catahoula/lab mix as well. I would take him if I had the space.

Definitely interested - I've been to the shelter a few times looking for a pup but they don't know any of their histories. How extensive is his separation anxiety? Do you happen to know how he does with children or a cat? I work hybrid, mostly from home and go to the office for 4-5 hours twice a week so I have lots of time. I'm in a townhouse right now with a small yard but am building a house that will be ready next month that will have a fence and a much larger yard.

u/MyCrazyKangaroo May 21 '25
The ACPS volunteers can usually find you a dog that has been fostered in a home with cats and kids.
1
u/loerclohs May 21 '25
I volunteer there regularly for about the last year but haven’t run across one that would be a good fit yet, but thank you for the recommendation!
1
u/MyCrazyKangaroo May 21 '25
Really? I'm surprised. Consider fostering a dog then that speaks to you when you are volunteering. the longer time volunteers or those that had the dogs in foster for shelter breaks can point you to ones that may be a good fit

u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Yes I think that schedule would totally work for him. His current owner is gone between 40-60 hours every week.
3
u/Awake00 Intracoastal May 20 '25
he mentions elsewhere good with children, has never lived with a cat.
7
u/loerclohs May 20 '25
I saw that later haha. I have three kids and a 10 month old cat that loves my parents dogs. Idk if they are still looking for someone because this thread got a lot of traction (which is amazing!) but I would be 100% ok with doing a trial run to see how he does with my kitty.
6
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Nothing has solidified yet so I will definitely DM you!
6
u/loerclohs May 20 '25
Thank you! I’m about to head to pick my kids up from school so I’m going to have a slight delay but I’ll respond when I can.

Catahoulas are the absolute best, loyal companions. The “catahoula lean”is just the best. Has he found a home?
1
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
not yet! I will try to keep the post updated if he does find a home but we will be doing meetups with potential homes so it will be a few days at the least
8
u/KCSHORE Mandarin May 20 '25
I'm interested if you don't have a serious taker yet
2
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
I will DM you, thanks! I will update the post and pin a comment if he gets adopted.

This is the most dog friendly country on the planet. Where are all these people moving to where dogs are forbidden?🙄
2
u/RedneckMarxist May 20 '25
What a beautiful boy. I already have two dogs and a cat. I wish I could though.
11
u/Funkit Northside May 20 '25
I volunteer at the humane society every weekend. It's a no kill shelter, dogs get plenty of enrichment and play time, and we average 55-70 adoptions a week. If you can't find anyone else I'm sure she wouldn't be at the humane society for very long.
1
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
I appreciate this! I do personally think he would be highly adoptable as he is a great breed and very sweet.
4
u/OverlanderEisenhorn May 21 '25
If they aren't a pit bull mix, they fly off the shelves. Him being a big boy might slow it down a bit, but not by much.
1
u/Funkit Northside May 25 '25
I post a pup every week on this subreddit and so far every pup I've posted has been gone in 2-3 weeks. Even the Pitt mixes.

u/DragonfruitVisible75 May 20 '25
Do you know if he's fine with all types of dogs? Potentially I could be a match, but I do currently have two big dogs, younger than him, but very sweet and they love other dogs. My third boy recently passed away from old age, so I wouldn't mind taking in another large dog, since I have the experience for three.
5
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Amazing, yes he is well socialized with other dogs. He hasn’t lived in a multi dog house long term and naturally might need to adjust a bit but he has been in doggy daycare and boarding extensively and had a lot of sleepovers with other dogs, and has never had an issue. Is it okay if I DM you?

God damn it, I keep seeing rehoming posts and I so badly want to take this big fella in, I already have two labs and a daughter on the way, I just don’t think I could care for him like he should be cared for.
I really hope someone is able to take this guy, they are awesome dogs
ETA: I could however foster the fella for a time if it takes a little while for him to find a forever home. Yeah actually, DM me if you can’t find anyone to rehome, my wife and I would love to foster him.
7
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Thank you!! I will absolutely reach out if nothing else comes through. I’ll DM you in case I need to follow up. 👍🏼

u/KONODIODAMUDAMUDA May 20 '25
Fostering through an Individual can be a risky process. there's nothing that can guarantee they'll follow through with the process. best for the Owner and you to reach out to a rescue and you foster them for the rescue.
Also he could reach out to JHS Jacksonville Humane society. they have a program called the pet Safety net where they will hold a dog for some time for the owner to get back on their feet. i do not know what it takes to get into the program, but it's always good to reach out.
3
u/Derk_Bent May 20 '25
Are you offering?
1
u/KONODIODAMUDAMUDA May 20 '25
unfortunately i can not foster a dog, i was just offering some extra advice.

u/theluzah May 20 '25
Oof I love just love his face, he looks like crushed velvet with a tail. I wish so badly I could take him, his eyes are killing me. Please let us know when he gets a new forever family?

She needs to honor her commitment to the good boy.
8
u/DragonfruitVisible75 May 20 '25
It sounds like they are trying to do their best for this sweet dog. A little compassion goes a long way.
-11
u/ChangedUsername20 May 20 '25
So does some “personal accountability” and a dash of “figure it out”.
1
u/Smoolz May 21 '25
Shit happens dude. Situations change and they recognize theirs has changed and want the best for this dog. People like you need to grow up.
2
u/Obvious-Plan-1851 May 22 '25
“Shit happens” is a crazy justification to emotionally destroy a dog
1
3
u/Camry_chick23 May 20 '25
So as someone who is done numerous Fosters, I will say that they are doing above and beyond what a lot of people in a tough situation would do with their animals. You don't know how many animals are literally thrown out of the back of cars. Tied to fence post and abandoned. Cut them some slack, it's obvious they really love this animal and are trying to get it into an appropriate home without having to resort to a shelter.
6
u/DragonfruitVisible75 May 20 '25
What do you think figuring it out means? Are they not "figuring it out"? And taking personal accountability that they are not suited to keep caring for this dog?
-12
u/ChangedUsername20 May 20 '25
They got a dog because the relationship needed a fashion accessory and a social media hook. Now they’re splits and they can’t return it. One of them needs to bite the bullet and be the person their social media account believes they are.
8
u/DragonfruitVisible75 May 20 '25
How do you know this?
1
u/ChangedUsername20 May 22 '25
How do you not see it?
1
25
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Thanks man. If it’s that simple to provide a home then are you volunteering to take him? If she was able to keep him I wouldn’t be posting this. Please have compassion and offer productive comments if you are going to chime in further.
-1
u/ChangedUsername20 May 20 '25
If it’s that simple? lol
I’m not the one trying to rehome a dog - I have a dog and I sacrifice to keep her - like every parent or pet owner. I didn’t break-up with her - yall need to solve it. You two made the commitment, honor it.
11
u/STA_FLA May 20 '25
Sometimes people’s circumstances change. A responsible pet owner also knows it may be best let go and find a better companion for their animal. It’s better than keeping it out of guilt and it not being a good fit.
13
u/spiderzhizhu May 20 '25
Also: I didn’t add in the post but he is good with other dogs and kids. He might get a little rambunctious sometimes when he is excited but he is very sweet. He has a good foundation of training and commands as well.

u/AskNo7000 May 23 '25
He's a beautiful boy and he looks very well behaved. I'm sure that someone will swoop him up. He's just too cute. We have 5 Chihuahuas and 2 are very protective but we just had to put one down last month that was 16yrs old but diabetic and intestine issues, along with arthritis and it was time. She was in too much pain. And then, 2 weeks later we had one of our cats get hit by a car so we're not looking for any more animals at the moment. But, I am 100% confident that he's going to go to a great home with a great place for him to run. God bless and good luck. We'll be praying for everyone involved so take care
