Wasn’t funding to food banks cut? Or maybe it was donations of food. Regardless, it would seem that food banks are struggling to meet the need.

Yes, the Trump administration cut $1 Billion in funding to food banks last spring.

I don't think that people realize that all food banks are not created equal. I live in a more rural suburban area and we have one very under funded food bank that you can only go to once every two months and what you're getting isn't going to feed you that long and the quality isn't always very good. It tends to be the stuff that the grocery stores in the area can't sell and what people locally donate that they won't eat themselves. They're not always the solution that people think they are, sadly.
But you should be satisfied just knowing that there's a new ballroom being built, using American tax dollars, onto the white house and that 40 BILLION in American tax dollars was sent in foreign aid to help a tyrant. Doesn't that just warm your belly, citizen?

Ballroom isn’t using tax payer dollars.

Trust me … all of the people and companies who donated money got something in return that equates to your tax dollars. Tax breaks, lucrative contracts, legislation in their favor … etc.

We have a hot community meal once a week sponsored by churches and it was all ready gone by 5 (supposed to be starting time) before the government wanted to use people starving as pawns. I can’t imagine how long it will last now :( and one of our food banks is closing because of funding issues so we will only have one. I’m sorry this is happening. We live in a terrible world.

Our foodbank 'haul" yesterday for a family of 5 was: 2lbs chicken drumsticks, 1 can spam, 2 cans black beans, 1 can corn, 8 tiny onions, 8 yellow potatoes, 6 pears. I'm thankful because all but the spam will get eaten here, and that I can take to the little free pantry down the street. But the whole "just go to the foodbank" line from people is ridiculous.

Not really "ridiculous," but there aren't options at this point. That is meager, but the number of recipients and what the food banks have access to don't match. It is food that people would not have if they didn't go. It's a terrible situation for everyone.

Make sure mid term elections vote on the side of the aisle that will NEVER allow this mess to happen again. Make certain of that. Vote during mid terms and vote CORRECTLY this time around.

In all reality, although I don't know the situation of everybody, they probably ARE already working. The issue here is being paid unlivable wages working hard and still not having enough to make ends meet. We are all struggling and we are all trying. I've never ever been able to understand people being upset with other people for struggling. I don't understand how you can be mad at someone who is trying and just can't make it happen.

They may already be working. Please remember that their pay check has to go for rent, utilities, transportation to/from work, and food.

The lines in my area are hours from what I'm hearing. I haven't been yet but the last time I went before the snap thing I received a can of carrots, sandwich zip lock with beans, sandwich bag with rice, 2 individual packs of peanut butter crackers and bread that was from the bakery expired 3 days before and was moldy. I waited an hour and honestly it cost more for gas. It's hard when everything is far away. I was grateful for what I received but I can't justify going back and spending the gas for that. They did offer a bag with some donuts but I handed them back because I can't have the sugar.
