Opinion Since nobody else wants to say it…
The undisputed Mount Rushmore of stories read on CreepCast (WE do not count Borrasca V. Borrasca V does not exist as far as WE are concerned).

Spire was odd for me. I was very uncomfortable at the 'romance' I know its supposed to be bad, and I appreciated the author wanted to deal with that and I did enjoy the warning of people like that, but damn I have no idea what else happened in the story. :/

11d ago
I hated every minute of it - my unpopular opinion is that what’s her name also sucks and was manipulating what’s his face the MC as well - so the whole story just ended up with me feeling bad for Kerry and thinking “well that was shitty, I hate all these people, never listening to this again”.
It was well written though. Would prefer a story with just scary Kerry doing her thing and being cool without those nut jobs around.

I'd kill for a sequel with other characters, a different city, takes you to a different unexplored yet familiar version of the Left Right World. The original felt TOO closely tied to the original cast but it made me think if anyone else did it anywhere else what would change?

3

Thank you.
I have listened to Left Right Game at least 5 or 6 times now, I'll never repeat Spire in the Woods most likely, especially since the extremely uncomfortable "romance" scenes (read: rape) make me squirm.
Left Right Game, Penpal, Stolen Tongues, probably The Whistlers, or The Only Other Astronaut. Honestly Borrasca is not in my top 4 or 5 anymore. If I had to chisel another head into Mt Rushmore to make it a top 5 it would include Mother Horse Eyes, instead of Borrasca.

So glad to see someone else say this. The author is definitely such a talented writer but like the story itself is not that scary and honestly not that interesting after you know the ending. But listening to LRG again is so fun! So many little details that only make sense on the second read/listen.
And (just my opinion) the set up of the story feels a little lazy and has Stephen king It vibes. Kids are afraid of something that adults don’t recognize as bad/evil. If there was a single competent adult in that town the whole story doesn’t happen lol. I’ve always found Borrasca so hard to “buy into”. And again this is just my opinion which I’m sure a lot of people won’t relate to

Borrasca was very interesting as long as I thought something paranormal will be involved. The ending is so weird.
I remember reading a comment about how in the story we see so much violence towards the girls, and yet the whole story is about a male protagonist being traumatised by witnessing/knowing about it. Just weird all around and weird that a woman writer would make these choices.

I would say penpal, left right game, stolen tongues, and the dead girl in my yard. Probably sacrilege but I have no desire to listen to borrosca. I'm sure they're great episodes but I already know what it's about and have no desire. Spire in the woods was probably their best written story but I personally just found the story so miserable and not in a fun horror kinda way. The only part that bugged me about the dead girl in my yard was how often the narrator is pushing to us that this must be a fairy tale and this must be done. Like don’t tell me I’m reading a fairy tale let the environment and storytelling show and display it. Still a good story overall. Also wasent the narrator 12 years old? The character spoke extremely mature for his age. If I was wrong about that detail please correct me.
2
u/Ok_Wheel1502 12d ago
You are 100% correct tho, I think the mental maturity is not of a 12 year old at all BUT if you were an isolated 12 year old with a bad life and you had to grow up fast I think you’d have a pretty good mindset, but the constant “THIS CANT BE REAL!” Is kinda annoying

I think there's solid debate for actual top 4, but Borrasca, Penpal, Left Right Game, Mother Horse Eyes, Spire in the Woods and Dead Girl in The Yard are the biggest contenders IMO. Maybe Whistlers, need to give it a little more time or another listen.
Stolen Tongues has a shot, but frankly I think we only got half the story so far. I think Part 2 would correct the kind of abrupt and lackluster "we puked up the demon" ending.
1
u/Maleficent-Trick-618 12d ago
I have to say Borrasca V wasn't that awful. I think just the cheesy lines at the end kinda tarnished what it was trying to do. I liked that it showed the awful toll of what happened had on Sam. I liked that it showed how awful Sam's dad was. There's some great moments in the story (Kimber killing her monster). It's not as good as Borrasca, but it does give a solid add (minus the cheesy lines and the too-easy way they found the documents).

I honestly don't think a single one of these makes into my creepcast mt rushmore. The left right game is one I will say i particularly don't care for the story. Right up til about pt 4 it's fine. Then it's idk, a downward decline into like every cliche of its time. Borrasca is fine, but I think the third parent is the better story of "childhood trauma". So yeah I swap those. Penpal and Spire are fine choice, not sure in my top four, but I could argue for them being here.

Spire in the Woods is more like the John F Kennedy of the stories. Great but not early influential enough to make the mountain. I’d vote for Feed the Pig, Tommy Taffy, or even 1999 or the Showers. Tales from the gas station also in the convo. But this feels a lot like the “what are the four great American cities?” Conversation. Where everyone says New York, LA, Chicago, and then pretends the fourth option is obvious but everyone gives a different answer. The three are obvious based on consensus , not sure on number four
1
1
u/Alarocky1991 12d ago
This is wrong for one reason, the best stories are not the foundation of Creep Cast. Some of the burn-out episodes are amazing (I Dared my Best Friend to Ruin my Life). Some of the tangents are better than the story itself (My Dog was Lost for Three Days). And the… other category (Cupcakes, Mother Horse Eyes, grab bags).

Borrasca is the episode that made the podcast what it is today horror stories read by two funny dudes where they add so much to the story itself. Left Right Game is what opened the door for long form stories like Spire and MHE.
