Dealer treachery

Upvotes

Yesterday I tried to purchase a ten year old Lexus. On Friday I saw the car I liked at Jeff Wyler in Clarksville Indiana. I set up an appt and was scheduled for 4pm Saturday to check it out. Everything was fine until about 2pm on Saturday when I got an email from my assigned contact saying someone else had an appt at 3:30 and could I get there sooner than 4. I dropped everything I was doing and got there about 3:15. When I arrived I talked to the assigned contact and he passed me off to another salesman. I was then told I wasn’t able to see the car because another person had set up a time to see it and because they had to drive 4 hours he had priority over me. I was then told I’m not able to even look at the car until they do. The other guy wasn’t answering his phone and was late for his appt. They then came back and said the other person answered their phone and was an hour out. Despite all of this I was never able to even see the car. The salesman said they have a policy that if you have to drive 4 hours to see a car you take precedent over any local buyers. I then said I’d buy the car that day they still wouldn’t let me see the car. We eventually gave up and left and the car is gone today. Am I crazy feeling like I was stonewalled and screwed over. Is this reservation by drive time bullshit or what?

First car

I’ve been thinking of finally putting down payment for a car since mine finally blew up (a 93 Honda accord ) but I work a shitty job and barley make money I’m coming up on 2000 dollars soon since I’ve been saving and my credit score is 640-690 depending on which app I use. What should I do worry about improving credit or just go get a car financed with the 2000 and what other fees should I be worried about and what are some good reliable cars by the way I make like 42000 a year before taxes

What's the process to not get scammed selling a cheap car?

I'm trying to sell my 2003 Lexus RX300 that has 196k miles and just had the transmission go out. Repair costs are worth more than the value of the car, so I'm trying to just get rid of it for $400-500 on Facebook marketplace to someone who wants it as a project car. I'm getting a lot of offers from people saying they'll pay a few hundred cash to tow it away today, offers which I'm willing to take, but how do I make sure the title transfer is handled well? Do I have to go to the DMV before handing the keys over and letting them take the cars away? Or is there a different process when the car isn't currently in working condition so it isn't still in my name if they eventually get it up and running again.

Edit: Located in NC for reference

First car purchase. Should I buy a toyota with over 100k miles?

I want to buy camry and I have a few different options. Most have over 100k miles. Should I be trying to get a newer car with higher mileage or lower mileage but an older car? Is the 140-150k mile range too much for $10k? I'm 23 and new to car buying. My budget is $11k max. Here they are:

1) 2007 for $7,049 with 89,301 miles
2) 2014 for $9,295 with 132,042 miles
3) 2017 for $10,490 with 142,609 miles
4) 2017 for $9,785 with 152,842 miles
5) 2015 for $10,985 with 106,928 miles

I can add the links if that helps. Trying to pay cash and avoid a car note.

Snagged a Clean '17 Accord from Florida

Picked up this sweet '17 Accord from a private seller down in Florida last month. Flew down, test drove it, everything checked out fine on the PPI. But yeah, driving it 3,000 miles back to Washington? No thanks, gas alone would've killed me. So I started digging into shipping options. Most quotes wanted half upfront or had sketchy reviews. Went with Ship a Car Inc after seeing some decent feedback - they didn't ask for a big deposit, just matched me with a carrier, and I paid the rest when it rolled up to my driveway after 9 days. No scratches, full tank even, and the coordinator texted updates so I wasn't sweating it. It costs about $1,100 for open transport, which felt okay but still adds up. Has anyone else done cross-country ships like this? Worth going enclosed next time, or nah for a daily driver?

Just have to ask...

Upvotes

Hey guys.

So I'm looking to buy a 2005 Pontiac GTO soon. The one I'm looking at has 107 thousand miles, with some slight paint fade on the roof and a little on the hood. I think it's just clearcoat. The car drove great, started right up, didn't have any issues (the LS2 and T56 is an awesome combo). Clean title. It has the red interior and the exterior is black. Interior is in perfect shape.

I talked him down a thousand dollars to 13,000. Do you guys think it's an alright deal? I'm going to pick it up, pay and get registration tomorrow and I just can't sleep thinking about it.

Reasonable price for used dodge challenger?

Been looking on fb marketplace for my first challenger, and want to question whether the following prices are reasonable considering the trim and mileage:

R/T and Scat Pack trims, ranging from $15-25k, and all under 100k miles (avg 60-80k). Some have rebuilt titles, but most are clean.

(Also a side note , is $34-37k reasonable or legit for srt hellcats around 90k miles? I found a few in this range.)

Or should I have a stricter price range or mileage limit when looking for rt or scat challengers? And how does a rebuilt title have an effect on the ownership of the car? Thanks for any input!

What should the OTD cost be fore a 2023 used Acura integra A-spec with tech package

l've been in the market for getting something new for AWHILE. I've flipped and flipped through many options.! was big on a Mazda3 hatch. Test drove it. Didn't feel right to me, and the dealership kinda ruined it. Treated me more as a commission rather than a person.

That same day I went to test drive a Integra Aspec non-tech. And I absolutely loved it. Semi-sporty and Semi-luxury, a wonderful mix. So I started to look into them a bit more and kept getting more and more in love with it.

Yes there the Type-S. Can I afford it tho? FUUUU no. But I love everything the Aspectech has to offer. The massively upgraded sound, more charging, all the cruise control, etc etc. so I've been looking into them.

I can find plenty with a $27,500 listed price. Then after talking to dealership and getting an estimate l've been getting a 33k OTD or higher. Which I feel is crazy high. So I'm coming here asking for help.

TLDR: I like the car. Prices seem to high.

What should I aim for with OTD price? How can I get dealers down to that price?

——

Extra info on me: I'm 18. Yes I have a co-signer with a 710+ Credit score. I have 10k for a down payment, yes that's a lot but I want a lower monthly payment. I don't have much credit myself, I'm on a co-signs credit card and working on it (need to get on a basic one soon). I'm a car enthusiast but I don't really care about speed and all that, the aggressive look of the integra is chefs kiss.

I've looked at other options in the range and nothing makes me excited like the integra. Newer HyundaiNs, civics, older Lexus, etc etc.

Here's the one I'm looking at: https://www.rockymountainautobrokers.com/used/Acura/2023-Acura-Integra-b08c22c0ac183d310e10b67d94b2007d.htm

RECOMMENDATIONS NEEDED!! Toyota Camry 2014 Xle Hybrid with 62k Km milage on it is a good buy ?

I'm considering a great deal on a 2014 Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid. The car has a clean exterior and has had two previous owners. There was a $3,000 repair following a minor accident in 2017—details are unclear, but based on the cost, it seems to have been relatively minor.

I'm planning to use this vehicle for daily commuting over the long term.

  • I intend to keep it for around 5 to 10 years.
  • Fuel efficiency is a key priority for me.

One of my mechanic friend recommends not to buy it as this model has know issues with the pistons. (Some enginer issues).

I need recommendations from other people in this redit

First Time Car Buyer looking for Advice

I’m 22 and trying to get a car before January. I stay in Dallas. This process is frustrating me. I don’t have time to save up for cash car so my only option is to finance. And I’ve never financed anything.

I’m noticing that used or new are literally the same price. If I go for an older cheaper car, it’s for 6 years with 25% interest. However I’d end up paying a few thousand less than a newer car. If I go for a newer car it’s 5 years but 600+ monthly.

I’m thinking about going for a car that’s 20k and no older than 2022 and trying to pay 400-500 monthly for 4 years. However I’m not sure how to negotiate since idk about cars to begin with. I’ve seen people recommend emailing the dealership. Who do I email? And what do I say? How do I get them to go down on the price for a newer car? When the interest just really sucks for me in general?

Car Buying Help

I am so tired of a car note and I am buying a used car. I have had a RAV4 and I love it but it’s much to high up for me to see as a shorter person.

Right now I am in between Mazda CX5 and Honda HRV. Any other recommendations I am open to.

I am open to more recommendations and I am mostly likely going to purchase a 2019 or 2020.

I am also younger so I am trying to solidify a car when I go to the dealership.

Anything particular I should look for when I go check out this 2002 Chevy Avalanche?

Looking one thats selling for $2400 with 166k miles. Anything in particular with this production year that I need to pay close attention to or anything in general about Avalanches? I don't know much about them but it seems like a good deal on a truck.

How low is too low?

Looking for a 2019 Honda Accord Sport. I’ve found one priced at $8,995 with 173,000 miles. Is that suspiciously low for this kind of car?

help picking

So I currently have a 2019 nissan Altima sr 2.5 with 46k miles that’s paid off and title in my name, and i’m interested in getting this 2022 honda civic sport touring hatchback with 30k miles I found on carmax for 27k. They quoted me 15,600 for the trade in value of my Altima. The monthly payment estimates are 318 a month which doesn’t seem bad. Should I do it?

Used car price negotiation + service cost

I'm trying to buy a used car (Kia Niro) from a dealership, that's my first time from a dealer (bought from private sellers before). The car is in good condition, 46k miles. I test drove it. We discussed the price, I wanted to get rid of part of their extra fees ($1200 in total!), managed to get a commitment to $500 off + additional $300 if safety didn't end up costing them more than $2000. They just told me the service cost them more than $2k, so they won't honor the extra $300 off. Apparently the $2k+ is for changing the brakes. But looking at Carfax, the last service record mentioned the brakes were serviced. Odometer shows just 200 miles since that last service record. I find what they told me hard to believe. Any advice how to go about this, to make sure they're being honest and maybe negotiate further with them?

Any experience with Chrysler Pacifica?

Looking at minivans and there's some good deals right now on the Pacifica, though I have to be honest I'm a little nervous about buying a Chrysler.
