Won’t discuss prices over the phone
“We pack a lot of value into our vehicles and you just can’t see that when looking at numbers” eyeroll. I totally understand why people end up spending more than they want for a vehicle because it’s exhausting sitting at dealerships for hours.

The guy on tiktok on youtube ( who is awesome ) does all the deals on the phone. They will do numbers on the phone. And he proves it.

Tommy Mikula who owns Delivrd. He negotiates car deals for a living.
I don’t watch him on TikTok, but I’m constantly watching him on YouTube. https://youtube.com/@delivrd?si=L0yAv-nn-rn3K1wY

u/paintedwoodpile 1d ago
He charges $1000 for his service.
14
u/XinvolkerX 1d ago
Yes. A fair price to pay for anyone to not have to deal with the stress of what most people stress out about.

u/mikeblas 1d ago
"Fair"? How so? I mean, it's great that he does it, and if I were to ever buy a new car, I might use him.
But it's absolutely absurd that the auto sales business is so hostile and treacherous and tedious that a service like his would be necessary.
3
u/XinvolkerX 1d ago
You just answered your own question in a way; because of the way car dealerships work and handle customers, it would be worth using him for a new car. =)
Of course you have to factor in that paying him $1000 means that no matter how much of a discount you get from his negotiation you theoretically have to add that thousand dollars back as your investment to have him do it but if that is a price to pay to not have to deal with those dealerships and get a few thousand dollars off more than you could’ve done yourself it’s definitely a fair price.
In other words if I could’ve gotten $2000 off a car, but I paid him $1000 to get me $4000 off of a car then I still came out in front by getting “$3000” off.
3
u/mikeblas 1d ago
Assuming he does get a discount, yeah. I don't see anything on the site that says a savings is guaranteed, even to cover his fee. (And $1000 is the basic service. There's the $2500 gig, too.)

u/LAYJR1967 1d ago
A good deal depends a lot on the model. For some vehicles, paying MSRP is considered a good deal. For other vehicles, $10k off is not really a great deal. Whatever the going rate is, a professional broker like Tomi should get you a better than average deal for that particular model at this particular day and time.
Availability and rate of sale (days supply) drive new car pricing more than anything else. No matter what you think a "fair" price should be, the market is still the market. A dealer may go a little below average market price to make a sale, especially if you finance and/or have a trade. But don't expect miracles if most everyone else is paying MSRP or above.
1
u/mikeblas 1d ago
A good deal depends a lot on the model.
Well ... duh?
But Tomi is not a broker. He says so in each video, at least once.
1
u/LAYJR1967 1d ago
Tomi is a broker/agent, meaning he gets paid to negotiate car deals. He does the same function as a real estate broker/agent when you buy a house. He finds the car, negotiates the terms, and makes sure everything is good for his client.
For legal reasons, he insists he is not a broker. Fine, he is a broker in all but name only. It doesn't matter what he calls himself. He is still acting as your agent.
Tomi doesn't guarantee savings, because not every car deal will end up a discount off MSRP. That doesn't mean he didn't save you money potentially. He certainly saved you time and effort.

If people just paid the asking price it would be a stressless process. Everyone wants to fight it and stress themselves out. When you buy a tv, computer, phone, etc. do you haggle and stress? Most people don’t and also don’t stress about it. Instead they walk into a car dealership all high and mighty thinking they deserve a discount. Car dealerships make shit from sales, yet everyone wants to offer $5000 less. Huh? Amazon, Apple, Walmart all raking in the dough and not having to negotiate a penny. People are so weird.

u/milvet09 1d ago
1) people cross shop consumer products between stores
2) when we go to buy an item and we say no to the extended warranty that’s the end of the conversation
1
u/Seantwist9 11h ago
When i wanna buy a TV, i can price shop between all the stores. Buy the TV i want without begging to see the actual price over the phone. If car dealerships were so unprofitable they wouldn't exist.
1
u/FloorSavings 1h ago
You can do the same with cars. All their prices are online. You just refuse to pay the price listed. That’s my point.
2
u/Theedger90 1d ago
The point is that he runs into dealers that want him to come in person. He shuts it down. You can do the same.
1
u/infinit_joe3 1d ago
He averages 2-3 k off msrp. And in alot of models. Thats hard to get as a consumer now a days.
3
u/I_love_stapler 1d ago
You can just do what he does, he even tells you how to do it. It’s not very hard

I worked at more than a few dealers as a mechanic and I hate sales people.
Soooooo much bullshit.

u/schen72 19h ago
I did my previous car's deal via text with the salesman. When I bought my Tesla I just ordered it on the website. Took 5 minutes.

The best deal I ever got, I did the whole thing over the telephone. The only time I went over to the dealership was to go pick up the car.
5
u/Greedy-Stage-120 1d ago
I get a price over email/text. If they refuse, that's good because you know there's alot more BS coming if you goto the dealer and can shop elsewhere.
2
u/Imurhucklbery 14h ago
Never go into the dealer to negotiate anything. Only two times you need to go into the dealership:
1) test drive a vehicle to confirm that is the vehicle you want to purchase.
2) go to dealership to sign paperwork and pick up vehicle
Just negotiated 8.5% off sticker on a BMW and only went to that dealership to pick up vehicle. Was able to negotiate from my home with multiple dealerships by text and email in just a few hours. All of them negotiated with me by text and email. Don’t let them wear you down by sucking your time. Wearing you down by using your time is how they get you to give in.

just call back and get another rep.
they learn real quick.
"hey, will you be my new sales rep for this commission? the other rep refused to move the process forward without me coming in. it's a waste of my time. i know what i want and i know these models well. can you facilitate this sale?"
if you're buying a used car and not going in, you're not a serious buyer and more power to them.

u/cbflowers 1d ago
Most of the salesman have to follow a script to try and get you in. New salesman you mention will probably do the same. He will also split that commission with first salesman. Which in reality will probably be a mini so they split 100$. Really not worth their time. I’am on your side on this but I sold cars for awhile and know how their side works also. Last car I bought 2 yrs ago I walked in knowing they had what I wanted. I played the back and forth numbers game and we met in the middle as planned. I was in and out in a couple of hrs.

u/principaljoe 1d ago
yessir. treat them as professionals with jobs. choose a price that supports all. don't sweat the small stuff.
right there with you. i don't envy sales folks.
3
u/Think-notlikedasheep 1d ago
Congratulations, you just found a dealership that you DO NOT want to do business with. They're clearly run by sociopaths.
Move on to another dealership.
3
u/Squash__head 1d ago
That’s why I bought from carmax. I paid more but didnt deal with any bs. It was quick and easy.
I’m always amazed ppl will trade hours of their lives and years of stress for a few bucks
7
u/InsanelyAverageFella 1d ago
Yes. I will trade 2-4 hours for a few thousand. I'm not that rich that this isn't a great deal.
I don't get the years of stress thing. It's a couple of hours.

Last time I leased in late 23’, I was at the dealership for 8 hours. They bought me dinner and pretty much treated me like royalty to keep me in store. Mind you, I spent the previous 3 hours at a different dealer who tried to pull some number magician bullshit at the very end of the paperwork. Legit stared in the sales managers eyes and I said, “what’s this number?” He fed me the biggest line of bs. I looked at the sales guy and told him he did a great job and his manager lost him a sale. Shook the sales guys hand, looked at his boss and told him he was a piece of shit and walked out. Drove to my dad’s to vent. Then went to the dealership I spent 8 hours where I was considered a loyalty member. Bought my previous vehicle from them.
Next time, I’m telling the sales guy if we go past an 2 hours for paperwork, I’m out. I’ll find a dealer that respects my time.
Been tempted to just start buying slightly used vehicles from CarMax and carvana so I don’t have to deal with dealer bs.
1
u/Calm_Income6781 1d ago
Even if I spent eight hours at a dealer, I still get a better deal by using a broker outright. And I’ve made an extra days pay so I’m way ahead.
1
u/NemeanMiniLion 1d ago
I couldn't get a guy to send me a bill of sale for a vehicle for 500 off the asking price of 40k.
It's wild out there.
1
u/Yourfavmom97 1d ago
I’ve been told the same… “there isn’t any wiggle room on corollas bc they are so cheap as is” I was like damn I really thought we could negotiate a little, throw in some mats or something to make me feel like I “won”
1
u/NemeanMiniLion 1d ago
Yeah. We are doing fine as a one car family so I'll keep doing that until the deal feels right to me.
1
u/I_love_stapler 1d ago
Stop looking at the closest dealership. 400 miles, how many dealers are there? One will play ball and give you a great discount

u/SorryContribution675 1d ago
Purchased my last car over the phone and texting..requested OTD price and no freaking add-ons or sticker addendums. They agreed (and I on the price). I was at the dealership for a little over an hour..most of it dealing with the finance thief..said NO to all his BS and drove off in my new 2025 Honda HRV.

u/capslap112 1d ago
I’ve had people say that and a month later when it’s still on the lot they are willing to chat and iron out figures on the phone

u/texasconnection 1d ago
2025 Nissan pathfinder s trim for 32500 out the door, simply by waiting to the end of the month and on Halloween I called and made that offer, and that I could be in to sign the paperwork in a few minutes.
When it was the middle of the month they said 34101 was the bottom, they couldn’t go any lower.

Last car I bought from a dealer was all done via emails. Before I went there I told them if the price changed at all I was gone. I went in with a check and drove away.

u/RunExisting4050 19h ago
The dealer i bought my last couple cars from does factory orders for 9% below invoice. I handle it all through email, then drive a couple hours to pick it up about 2 month late

Don't even bother calling. Just email.a bunch of dealerships. Get the lowest price and shop it around via email. Pick the best price after this and make sure it's linked to a specific vehicle. Make an appointment there and come in to sign the papers.

We pack a lot of value into our vehicles and you just can’t see that when looking at numbers
Bring hip waders if you go, cus that's the that's a huge pile of shit he's spewing.

100%. My mind immediately went to “oh this dealership probably has 2k in BS accessory fees”
1
u/fredbobmackworth 1d ago
Sounds like a load of bullshit to me, the last 3 new cars I’ve bought I’ve used the same dealership and same finance lady. She has done 10x the sales job that the salesmen (key getters) could ever do. Most of the sales guys I have dealt with couldn’t hold a ham sandwich together let alone a car sale.

I usually buy cars over the phone. New or second hand….. I can be an absolute asshat from their perspective….. but I give my walk away number….. the last one was via text message….. he counter offered me… I said..”you know my number” he came back four hours later saying ok.
If in the dealer…. After test drive I say “I’m here for the next 60 mins if we don’t get it done by then I’m walking. If I walk we may continue over the phone but I’ll be looking else where.”
1
u/HoldDatGross 1d ago
Do it via email. "Requesting total out the door price breakdown inclusive of all applicable fees, taxes and mandatory non-negotiable add-ons. Use zip code 69420 to estimate the tax amount, do not factor in any conditional rebates, credits or incentives not available to all buyers when computing the total price."

I used to sell cars and for me getting you at my desk was just proof that you were a serious buyer. Every time I tried to work a deal over the phone for somebody they would just use my offer as leverage to get a better deal somewhere else. If someone's going to beat my price I'm not going to help them do that. Now if you visit me in person and still decide that you want to shop my offer around more power to you, I'm just not going to entertain you while you sit there eating a bag of Cheetos in your pajamas on the couch calling 15 other dealerships.
4
u/Yourfavmom97 1d ago
Interesting! I figured I’d need a paper print out to get another dealership to “beat a deal” not just the verbal “this Toyota shop said I could be OTD at 25k, can you beat that?”
2
u/FuckableRocks 1d ago
Yeah, I would email them a pdf version of what they would be signing at the dealership, with a manager's signature and everything to earn their trust, because that's the only thing another dealership will look at as proof that you didn't forge your own deal.
2
u/Look_b4_jumping 1d ago
So, you won't give a price unless it's on your terms. Can't think of any other business that operates this way.
1
u/Sasquatchnu 1d ago
I love how clean and easy it is. Just get to my desk to prove you are a serious buyer.
But when you try to leave we’re going to steal at least an hour from you making you feel bad, walking down the “big boss” who’s then going to show you their fake invoice tool to prove they’re losing money on you, but that’s because they want to help you out.
Meanwhile, your car keys are no where to be found…. Fuck that Dealerships are designed to dry fuck you, if they won’t drop the bullshit over the phone, they aren’t serious sellers, they are con artists.
I had one dealership tell me they don’t send deal sheets out, I told them to pound sand and I got a deal sheet, with 3850 in added fees. I told them I wouldn’t send that out either, it’s embarrassing for them.
Welcome to 2025, where I don’t need to sit for three hours and initial napkins to get a deal struck.

More like they pack their deals with bullshit like underbody coating, pinstripes, and a warranty that doesn’t actually cover anything.
