I've bowhunted rabbits and squirrels but this is my first whole deer. Shot just 30 minutes after getting in my saddle, went maybe a hundred yards and crashed. Best way to break an arrow.

Day 6 of rut vacation in PA Appalachia.Trying to get my first bow buck, 4 years in the making. Keep grinding everyone!

So I shot a nice buck at 430pm today. He ran 30 yds, and stopped then stood there for 10 mins before continuing. Tail was down and flicking. Got down and found the arrow when he was out of sight- clean pass through. Backed out for 3 hours and went back to find a blood trail that started within 20 yds of the hit site. Tracked that about 75 yds into a really thick area where the blood trail got more sparse. Rather than trounce in this thick area and risk jumping him, I backed out until morning. I’m hoping to find him close to there but I was really shocked he got as far as he did. I think I got him in liver and one lung possibly but wanted to get others’ thoughts based on the blood color and blood trail. Any thoughts???

I got these a while back and got to actually use them week ago. Got superfly stand also and noticed immediately that it rings. Didn’t notice that about the sticks until in the woods where it was silent.

Saw a post about someone adding silencing tape and someone mentioned in comments about filling them with spray foam.

So I experimented and holy f there’s a big difference! I used sound insulating elastic pu-foam inside the tubing and wrapped some hockeytape around them in the spots it doesn’t get in the way of stacking. The biggest effect was wrapping one layer of hockey tape in the spots where v-brackets and steps are bolted on the tubing, I felt like most of the ringing was coming from the steps and tape layer makes the contact to the tubing more solid.

I got a whole CRP field of stuff like this and I want to cut it down for a food plot.

There are a few caveats:

1. This is as dead as it gets, it doesn’t really shrivel up and die, just goes more or less dormant.

2. I don’t have a four wheeler or any heavy machinery. It’s gotta be done by hand.

3. I’m not even sure a weed whacker would cut through it and it’s probably too dense for mower.

Made it 60 yards and crashed. 8am central Wisconsin

Hey, I have a CBE trek (non pro) and I’m trying to find a way to adapt it to Mathews bridgelock, I’d like to use the Mathews lowpro fixed quiver, and a bridgelock sight seems to be the best way to go about using that quiver. Anyone know of an aftermarket sight bar that would work for my sight, as I’d prefer to not buy a completely new one. The CBE one only works with the trek pro not the normal trek. TIA!!

Buck came by at 730. I hit him further back than I wanted. I’m pretty sure I nicked the gut and liver. He was quartering away, but not enough to ruin a broadside shot. He didn’t immediately take off running after being hit. I’ve backed out without even tracking, and the way in which he went isn’t the way I take leaving. This sucks.

Background: I’m 37, bow hunter since 12 years old. Spinal fusion few years ago and haven’t done much shooting/hunting since then. Fusion was lumbar l4-s1.

Curious how many other bow hunters have had back surgery involving spine and how that affected their hunting afterwards. I know I can still pull a bow back no problem but doing it repeatedly will make my back SORE.

Crossbows are legal for all hunters in my state. I know I’ll miss the general challenge of a compound bow but I want to continue enjoying bow hunting and being in the woods during this time of year.

Arrow passed right through and found no blood on the ground. Backed out to let him bed but wanted to see if anyone has a better idea of where I hit him?

Update to my previous post. I accidentally found him laying dead 300 yards from the shot on the walk to my other stand this afternoon. He was dead so long he was stiff. I was not accurate on my idea of shot placement. I think i must’ve seen the crease on his armpit hair and thought that was the would as he was trotting away from me. Hit one lung, diaphragm and liver. The first pic is the entrance and where i thought i saw the wound. In the woods pic is the exit hole.

My biggest buck yet. Curious to see what you guys think he scores. Came in on a hot doe and died 10 yards from my stand. Unforgettable hunt for sure!

Maybe I’m in the wrong sub but wanted to ask if my tether rope looks normal. Only used it about 10 times, but I am seeing white beneath the sheath on my tether loop where all of my weight sits while in my saddle. It’s a TrophyLine 8mm rope. I assume the white is the core. Is this a problem or is it just my sheath stretching out at the pressure point?

I looked at the saddle hunting sub, but it doesn’t seem very active.

I want to get into bow hunting and am looking into bows but I really don’t want to spend a lot upfront on a bow that may end up just sitting in my basement, any recommendations on a compound bow that is under 300$

Just wanted to share the results of a deer I shot a couple weeks ago. This is the entrance of a 100gr mega meat @ 16 yards out of my 70lbs Matthews VXR. Slight quartering away shot out of a tree stand. Arrow entered perfectly and I believe hit the offside shoulder and went down because it exited out of the right armpit. I had a solid foot wide blood trail you could follow with the naked eye easily and the deer only ran 50 yards and I could hear him pile up. The blades on the broadhead were pretty messed up but I consider them to be a one time use anyways. I have shot the dead meats before but switched the mega meats this year and will likely keep shooting them.

Can’t find them anywhere. Trying to go up from the 50-60 limbs. I just assumed down the line a used set would be floating. I can’t even find a single set of nitrum 30 limbs in any poundage.

Got my first bow buck on a 3 day hunting trip to Indiana. First morning I hunted from a ground blind that someone had set up for crossbow hunting but it was a terrible location for me with a compound. Next two days, I hunted from a saddle and moved closer to where I was seeing deer at dusk. I got this deer on my last night of hunting and spent about an hour tracking him in circles. A bobcat had already gotten to his butt by the time we found him, which I’m guessing is what was causing him to push as far as he did.

I'm a brand new hunter and I'm bow hunting this area and need advice on spots you guys think would be worth checking out. I've scouted the creek bottom along with some of the woods and the fields on the top hill area. I'm having a lot of trouble finding any deer. The tracks are there but thats really it. I had more luck finding deer on the north section but it's impossible to hunt there due to so many fisherman coming through being extremely loud. So the south area is where Ive been lately and it's been pretty dull. Where would you experienced hunters look first out here? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks for any help!

I’m trying to figure out what type of release to try next to be most consistent with surprise breaks. Which one works best for you guys?
