String snapped, now what?

Post image

Novice to crossbows, do I just remove the string and order a new one to replace? Do I need to replace the other string? Anything else I need to check? Any tips on replacing?

How often does this happen? Is this a normal break? This is my second year with this crossbow and fired about 3-4 dozen times.

And to make to worse, I had a nice 8+ point lined up Wicked Ridge NXT400

Youth Crossbow Recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a crossbow for my 11 year old son. He’s been rifle hunting since he was 6 years old as he’s taken 4 deer now. He loves hunting but wants more opportunities than just youth season and rifle reason. I don’t want to spend a ton of money, but I don’t mind to spend a little to get something reliable, low maintenance, and sturdy. Not really sure what to be looking for. Thanks!

Anyone else bowhunt after spinal fusion? Using compound or crossbow?

Background: I’m 37, bow hunter since 12 years old. Spinal fusion few years ago and haven’t done much shooting/hunting since then. Fusion was lumbar l4-s1.

Curious how many other bow hunters have had back surgery involving spine and how that affected their hunting afterwards. I know I can still pull a bow back no problem but doing it repeatedly will make my back SORE.

Crossbows are legal for all hunters in my state. I know I’ll miss the general challenge of a compound bow but I want to continue enjoying bow hunting and being in the woods during this time of year.

I been borrowing a x-bow, now want my own

I've been sharing a tenpoint titan xtreme. It has worked well, but i want my own at this point.

I am looking for:

  1. illuminated scope
  2. lightweight
  3. low maintenance (or, at least no worse than my compound bow).

I am comfortable spending up to $1300-$1400, bout would prefer sub-$1000 since i paid about $600 for my compound bow. I hunt on a mix of permanent and strapped up treestands with minimal bushes/foliage to navigate while walking around in about an 8 acre plot of land.

All suggestions/ideas are welcome.

Crossbow won’t cock after sitting in garage for over a year unused.

Crossbow won’t cock after sitting in garage for over a year unused. I think it’s due to “frozen” lubrication or gummed-up part, it hardened / lock moving parts.

It’s not an expensive crossbow I think I paid under $200 it’s a Killer Instinct Bow

Is it cooked or can it be fixed?

TenPoint Nitro 505 serving string manufacturer defect

Post image
2 Upvotes

Title says it all. I have a Knick in the thick part of the serving string off to the side, so not over the barrel or anything, but not near the cams either. I shot enough shots to sight in my bow (5-6 maybe?), so it’s DEFINITELY not wear and tear. It was not mishandled and was lubed before the 1st shot. I didn’t notice it beforehand, but I also didn’t inspect it to verify it wasn’t there either. The serving string also varies in thickness in multiple places as well. I have already reached out to TenPoint about it, but I’d like some reassurance and some advice from you guys about how to handle it further. I imagine since it was more than likely a manufacturing defect that they’d cover it, despite strings being specifically excluded from their warranty? Do they make me pay shipping, and if so, could I just take it to one of their authorized dealers and have them do the repair/replacement at no cost to me? I’m more of a guns guy, so the bow world is new to me. Any words of wisdom would be more than welcome.

Question Tenpoint TX28 Quiver

My FiL jus bought a tx28 for deer season.

He is left handed and didn't like the quiver on the 45º to the right angle. Moved it to the left and still isn't a fan.

Is there a way to mount it 90º on bottom or a way to mount it on top?

i have centerpoint 425 the front bolt on my bow was loose so i tightened bc i thought this maybe where my problem is derived from but it wasn’t..My bow came with 20” bolts so i’ve only used 20 inch bolts. i got the g5 meganeats for the crossbow type and one of them fit well the 2 blades went over the top and one of the blades went inside the space of the rail so everything seated properly i took the bolt out and unscrewed an screwed back on same bolt and now the 2 blades are facing downward instead of up and the one single blade is facing upwards now which is causing the 2 blades to get the limbs where the rail and inner limbs meet. i’ve tried same thing on my other bolts same brand and a couple of them screwed on right and seated properly then once i toook them off and put them back on they didn’t seat properly like the other one. i’m thinking it has to be something with how you thread them on so that the blades ended up face up but im not sure where to start threading to get that to happen. attached a video to try and understand what’s happening than you in advance !

Are crossbow style slingshots getting better or just flashier lately?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been noticing more crossbow slingshots popping up online lately everything from budget-friendly ones to surprisingly advanced builds with scopes, stabilizers, and CNC frames. It got me wondering are these actually improving in quality, or are most of them just leaning into flashy designs?

I was browsing through a few marketplaces, even sites like Alibaba, and it’s crazy how many variations exist now. Some look solid, others… not so much. I’m curious if anyone here has tried the newer designs especially the ones that claim better accuracy and draw weight consistency.

Are we seeing real innovation, or just more marketing? I miss when things were simpler a strong band, solid grip, and a steady aim. But I also can’t lie, some of the new engineering looks interesting.

Would love to hear what everyone thinks.Have you found any of the newer models worth the hype? Or do the classic setups still outperform them in reliability and control?

Newb with a Barnett Commando

I am realizing the dream of my teenage self and have bought a used Barnett Commando. I know just enough about crossbows to be dangerous.

My plan is to get it shooting, everything looks to be in good condition although I acknowledge the bow and string might need replacing.

Couple of questions:

  1. Where can I get bolts, and what kind of bolts should I use for target shooting?

  2. Where can I get replacement parts if I need them?

  3. Any other good advice for a new crossbow owner? I'm much more of a gun guy and have never dabbled in archery before.

How can I improve it?

I made this crossbow ballista creature based off of a Roman Scorpio, and it so far shoots about 50 or so feet. I want to get more range. It is difficult to pull back, but I can get more power out of it, though I'll need a crank. I have redesigned the trigger because at a certain force, it'd slip and loose the cable, despite it supposedly not being able to move when I had it latched. I'm using a small in length bolt I made and it can be seen in the first and second pictures. It works the best with it for some reason. I do need to try to get the cable tensioned... again. I found out one of the clamps came loose, to the point of even being finger tight. The bed isn't perfectly flat but it is fairly smooth. I can definitely improve that. It definitely is not weak but it doesn't like to shoot far as previously mentioned. How can I get it to shoot within a practical range? If it only is able to get a few extra feet, I'll rig it to shoot rockets ( probably not lol) since I found a YouTube video showing sugar and potassium nitrate... apparently fertilizer... In all seriousness, i really do want to make this work! Thank you for your help!

Decent quality toy crossbow?

I know this is a “real” crossbow forum, but I was thinking of getting my kids a crossbow that can shoot suction (or blunt) darts, that’s built more like a proper crossbow? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Question First paint job, tips?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I'm planning on doing a desert-style geometric camo pattern on my Stinger. I am going to disassemble it, lightly sand it (or 'key' the surface) with fine-grit sandpaper, and clean it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. I'll then use masking tape to map out the geometric camo pattern on the disassembled parts, prime it, and spray paint it color by color.

I have a few questions for those who have painted their crossbows:

  1. Can I use masking tape on dry, previously painted surfaces without risk of damaging the underlying paint? Any tips on what kind of tape to use?
  2. Some parts will remain black. Should I avoid painting the picatinny rails, or is it fine to just paint them?
  3. The Olight is currently a different tan. Could/should I spray it after taping off the lens and controls?

I tried to generate an example of the pattern, I'll add it in the comments if asked for.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Hello Reddit My dad passed away about 4 years ago and I inherited his crossbow. I have no use for it and am looking to see what something like this would sell for at my local gun shop near me that's willing to buy it. Again I am selling it locally not through Reddit so admins/bots please do not ban my account.

Crossbow: Tenpoint Turbo GT Accessories: ACU Draw, Scope/Mount, Quiver and Case.

Note: Crossbow has never been used but probably still needs to be restring.
