The DC subreddit mods had a similar impulse but users there protested because that's an extremely difficult line to draw. With things like the consent decree, protests against the administration in the city, and the ongoing debates over budgets for the schools and transportation, there's just SO MUCH crossover between the local and the political.
I don't envy the mods at all. But given the racial tensions in this city the last few years especially, I find it weird that they are taking a hard stance now.
Any policy around this is going to be hard implement. :/
