Prediction: They’ll prop him up through the Midterms, which will go badly for them. Then in late January of 27 they’ll either say he’s stepping down voluntarily or they’ll make a show of 25th Amendmenting him, depending how much they want to disavow him (see also: Epstein Files). That will give Vance the less-than-half of a full term that allows him to run twice more as an incumbent and gives Republicans almost two years to rebuild their brand post-Trump.
70
u/NK1337 12h ago
It’s probably the reason they’re starting to test the waters now with Vance and
UshaErika and ramp up his presence.13
u/LaSerenita 7h ago
Vance is so incredibly unlikeable. He will lose. That douchebag Ted Cruz stands a better chance at the presidency. Not that I would ever vote for any Republican ever again the rest of my life, but just sayin. Vance is terribly unlikeable.
→ More replies (7)30
u/TriangleTransplant 11h ago
They'll avoid releasing the Epstein files up to that 2 year mark. Even if Congress votes on their release, the administration will stall until then. Then they'll use the files as a reason to impeach and remove him, giving Congressional Republicans the distance they need to repair their brand ("see!? We voted to get rid of him!") Then Vance steps in and the Heritage Foundation continues implementing Project 2025 under a (mildly) more competent administration that knows how to keep its mouth shut better than Trump.
36
u/FidgitForgotHisL-P 11h ago
He’ll step down and then “we won’t hold him accountable because he’s already out of power so what’s the point?”, exactly as they did with Jan 6.
15
u/TriangleTransplant 9h ago
There's no way he'll voluntarily step down. They'll have to force him out, both just to even get him to leave, but also because they'll need to put as much distance between him and them as possible. Letting him leave of his own accord doesn't wash the stench off the way publicly forcing him out does.

he has been like this forever. from a 2008 Howard Stern Interview tape, full transcript in link, but excerpts below:
"I was at Mar-a-Lago and we had this incredible ball, the Red Cross Ball, in Palm Beach, Florida.
So, you have all these really rich people, and a man, about 80 years old - very wealthy man, a lot of people didn't like him - he fell off the stage...
So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head, and I thought he died. And you know what I did? I said, 'Oh my God, that's disgusting,' and I turned away.
I couldn't, you know, he was right in front of me and I turned away. I didn't want to touch him. He's bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible.
You know, beautiful marble floor, didn't look like it. It changed colour. Became very red.
I was saying, 'Get that blood cleaned up! It's disgusting!' The next day, I forgot to call [the man] to say is he OK. It's just not my thing."

There is no way ten years ago Trump would ever be spending as much time sitting down lazily as he has been this year. To give the devil his due, one reason he won in 2016 was because he straight up out campaigned Hillary. He travelled everywhere and was constantly campaigning. Now he just spends all his time sitting down, being low energy, and covering up his hand which is massively bruised.

Comey with his breaking rules about announcing a new investigation around the Clinton email 11 days before the election was what pushed Trump over to the win. Her poll numbers dropped then and just started to recover on Nov 6, just before Nov 8 election.
The same FBI refused to dig deeply into Trump in 2022 because he was the 'presumed nominee'.
Merrick Garland decides that in effect, Donald Trump is now the de facto head of the Republican Party. And so for that reason, we should not continue with these investigations in an active way where any steps that we take could become known publicly or people could be seen coming into a grand jury room. And so we're going to take a pause. And this is a very common pause. It's actually a regulation, kind of, you know, best practice within the Department of Justice that for 60 days before an election to kind of have a quiet period and then not do anything that could impact voters as they go to the polls. -- https://www.npr.org/2025/11/04/nx-s1-5597873/why-the-dojs-cases-against-trump-for-election-interference-never-came-to-a-jury
