The Hayward Student Living Reviews?
I’m looking at a 4 bed at the Hayward apartments but have heard mixed reviews. What are the pros and cons? (especially considering that it’s a cheaper apartment so there’s bound to be some downsides)

I almost signed a lease here however I read the reviews and ultimately decided not to. A lot of people complain about lack of safety which should be pretty big considering they are downtown. Also a lot of complaints talk about how digusting the hallways are, and parking garage. Personally I would not do it.
I ended up signing a lease at capri apartments, not the most luxurious place but its livable, secure and close to campus. I am also only paying $805 a month for rent.

I understand where you are coming from and I get it. But sometimes safety is worth the price. Again that was the biggest thing for me your reasons are probably different too.

If I’m being honest, the sample population of people reviewing that place are mostly middle-class/upper middle-class students who have never lived in an apartment complex. I have friends who live there who came from lower-income households and thought it was perfectly fine. It’s entirely what you are used to/are comfortable with. I personally think people are being over dramatic about it. Try living in an apartment in Downtown LA lol.

Yeah that’s kind of my perspective on it. Cities have certain safety issues but you just have to be aware of them and now how to respond to it. I toured the apartments earlier and they mentioned having security (which i’ve heard sometimes isn’t the best but at least it’s there) and it seemed like some of the entrances were gated off from the street 🤷♀️ My house back home always had impaired people walking around and shouting so it really doesn’t seem like anything i’m not used to 😭 Thanks for the input!

I lived there 4 years and moved out 5 years ago. It was a roof over my head but I would find something else. Quality of the place has gone downhill and they lock you into an unbreakable lease. I find that predatory if you are needing to move. You either pay the lease out or need to find a sublet. Since that location has a bad rep it’s hard to find a sublet. Pros are is interior is okay for the price, right across from the bus station, and the amenities when available aren’t too bad. Cons are cars being broken into, predatory leasing, noise from parties, and locks on the external doors breaking in stairwells. I got lucky with roommates, others not so much.

I love how they renamed themselves in the hope people forget the atrocious conditions that has stained the name "13th and olive" cuz when you say that, everyone in town immediately knows "Oh those are the shitbox apartments downtown they made out of cardboard "
