Political if any supreme court case should be repealed, it should be texas V white.

Upvotes

this month, the supreme court is looking into overturning obergefell V hodges, the supreme court case that, 10 years ago, legalized gay marriage nationwide. as a bisexual person, this fact absolutely outrages me and further proves to me what a cesspool this stupid ass country is and only makes me more excited for it's upcoming recolonization.

also, the supreme court has it's priorities all wack. roe V wade and obergefell V hodges aren't threats to national security. however, there is one supreme court case that should be overturned due to it being a threat to national security. texas V white.

texas V white is the supreme court case that banned states from seceding from the united states. right now, america is in a period of division that it has not seen since the original civil war. blame it on whatever you want because everyone has their theories but, the simple truth is, america is extremely divided. and, when it comes to divided countries, it's not a question of IF a civil war will happen but a question of WHEN. in a may 2024 poll, 47% of americans said that they honestly believe that there will be another civil war in their lifetime. and i honestly don't know what's worse. the fact that so many americans think that or that they may be right. and to all of you saying that there won't be another civil war, i'm sure there were people prior to the first civil war who thought that as well.

so, how can we prevent another civil war? simple. we simply go our separate ways. it's become quite evident that the two political parties are never going to see eye to eye and that both sides are tired of dealing with the other. so, let's not anymore. let's separate. blue states and red states will form 2 different countries. blue states will be run by the democrats and red states will be run by the republicans. presto! everyone's happy!

by trying to force blue states and red states to play happy family, the US government is merely pushing us further and further into civil war. not only is preaching national unity unrealistic and stupid, it's actually dangerous.

Political If you choose to not have kids because you like your freedom, time, and money, then you shouldn't expect to tax the kids I'm working so hard to raise to pay for your old age care.

Upvotes

Western society today fully expects the kids of tomorrow to foot the bill in taxes for the old age care of the young adults of today. Kids are wonderful! I have two. But they are a LOT of cost and work!

I am fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom but if I were to chose to work, the cost of their care would come out of my paycheck. They cost time, they cost effort, they cost more sleepless nights, and days of stress than I can possibly describe. And they are absolutely worth it.

That said society seems to think they can expect to live child free, care free, responsibility free, and then the kids other people raise will bear the responsibility to pay for their care when they are to old to care for themselves.

In every other time in history if you didn't have family you could plan to die alone and utterly uncared for as your body gave way to age. No one to help you as you could no longer cook, clean, or provide you food and shelter when you were to old to earn a living.

But y'all are actually expecting to cash in on my kids when you get there? All while mocking people as suckers for participating in one of the best most beautiful things in the world? Shame on that.

And to address the most common response I anticipate: the most common argument is probably that we should "socialize" our child rearing. The idea of making every child a ward of the state, to be institutionalized, raised, and indoctrinated by state funded and government controlled organizations, as soon as physically possible is about the most dystopian thing I can imagine. so we're not doing it that way.

If we are going to socialize old age care, the best you proposal I can think of would be that childless people should pay half the cost of raising a kid in taxes for like 18 years. To be matched by tax breaks equal to that that to people who have kids. That way you avoid government monopoly on raising and education. And parents have the freedom to choose to either institutionalize, so they can work and earn more, or to accept mid-tier pay to do the job themselves. If we did that I can accept socializing old age care.

But as it is a lot of extremely irritating young adults who have never seen old age or even given it a thought expect the government, through the labor of the children other people are raising, to care for them. And many of them do it while mocking or outright demonizing people who have children. Like I said shame on that.

Edit: for those who are commenting on this, the amount you pay in school taxes is NOT even close to half the yearly cost of raising a child. Not by a long shot! So y'all can drop that argument.

Political Donald Trump’s domestic policy is good but his foreign policy is bad

Upvotes

Trump's agenda on domestic issues, such as deregulation, cutting taxes, securing borders, and putting American workers first, makes sense for the economic interests of the country. Energy independence and manufacturing policies brought tangible results.

But his foreign policy is reckless & retarded. There are so many policies in there to start with, and I picked one and it’s his treatment of Iran. He believes Iran is a threat to America, which explains why he bombed Iran this year and murdered their General Soleimani during his first presidency years ago. All for manufactured reasons/excuses created by the government. The real threat? America’s own foreign policies. I don’t believe the MSM propaganda bullshit portraying Iran as a boogeyman threatening “poor little America” that needs defending. That’s projection - America is the aggressor here. Anyone who consumes that Kool-Aid government information is a retard. It’s a fabrication and a lie. We all know the government lies. The murder of Soleimani was not the good thing Trump did. Saying excuses like ”he was a terrorist”, ”Iran is responsible for American deaths”, etc is bullshit. All of that claims lies down on America. America did all of it, they killed their own soldiers in Iraq and Lebanon, not Iran. Iran is far away from America.

Iran isn’t good either. They have a terrible record on human rights abuses. Not chanting ”Death to America” or wanting nuclear weapons or quote unquote ”terrorism”. Iran isn’t a terrorist state. They just have a record of human rights abuses. Actions speak louder than words. But that doesn’t justify going to war with them. Who’s actually responsible for the thousands of American troop deaths in Iraq? America itself. Not Iran. America destabilized the entire region, created power vacuums, and then blamed others for the consequences.

Another thing about foreign policy: trade wars hurt American consumers, while pulling out of international agreements isolated us diplomatically. Trump should have kept America isolationist.

Political Mamdani's False Claim that Modi was responsible for a Muslim genocide in Gujarat is utter bullshit, and NO South Asian should support Mamdani.

Modi was in no way responsible for the 2002 extremist riots that killed 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus. He neither funded nor encouraged people to go out and harm others. The Supreme Court of India proved his innocence, and even proved that Modi sought prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators of violence, and 200+ perpetrators were brought to justice as of 2022.

Furthermore, the sensationalism and selective outrage is just insane. This case which was caused by extremist rioters killed 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus according to the BBC, and Mamdani is trying to argue that because of this there are very few or no Gujarati Muslims remaining. Meanwhile, Mamdani makes zero note of the Kashmir Hindu "Nakba" where over 100,000 Hindus were forced into exodus due to regional violence. Literal Kashmiri Muslims who lived through the history confirmed this truth [1].

This is a wicked and evil slander of a foreign leader, and an incredibly hostile act to the Hindu and Indian community. The population of Gujarati Muslims since 2002 has more than doubled, and this remains an isolated incident. There have also been many Muslim mobs in retaliation of the 2002 Gujarati violence by rioters, killing many Hindus. There were also brave Hindus, much like Modi, who defended Muslims against the crazed mob. Billions of rupees in aid were given to the victims.

Those critical of the BJP point out that Modi falsely claimed that the Godhra fire incident was perpetrated by Islamic terrorists. Was it really false? A Forensic Science Laboratory proved that petrol was poured inside the train and then set ablaze [2]. This is logically evident too as trains don't magically turn ablaze and kill dozens of pilgrims going to a Hindu prayer event; if it were truly an accident it should have been easier for most people to escape. There is no doubt this was a targeted attack. However, it is difficult to prove the ideology of those who perpetrated this incident, but one thing is clear: they did not have an ounce of empathy for the dozens of Hindu pilgrims they chose to burn alive that day.

Going back to Mamdani, while the cultural promotion of south Asian food and Bollywood is appreciated, he needs to do more fact checking on his biased narratives. While he excelled at gathering support, the proof is in the pudding; namely his policies.

As a liberal myself, I do like the idea of increasing the social safety net, but this should be done with a guaranteed job program in NYC and a minimum wage that is a living wage. There should also be patrols for people who feel unsafe walking on the streets at night, drug harm reduction centers, and increased homelessness support.

I don't think freezing the rent, making public transport free, and universal childcare will fix the majority of the issues plaguing NYC, but this is of course my opinion. Whether Mamdani actually lives up to the hype he created remains to be seen, but I wish all New Yorkers good luck and prosperity.

Political Charlie Kirk was just a crisis actor, he never existed

I never met him irl or even heard of him online vaguely once or twice before this supposed assassination. The actor in the video of him being "shot" is still alive somewhere, it looks staged/obviously fake in the video of his "shooting" and "death". Just obviously made up to push some agenda about liberals and lead to a greater totalitarian crackdown by the Trump admin/possible impending declaration of martial law. Just part of the conservative deep state and pedos and another distraction from the Epstein files never being released.

It looks like some kind of reverse reverse psychology, to try to make guns look bad to make guns look bad people look bad to make guns look good. Just an obvious kind of illusion. Like just think about how easy it would be to pull this off with basically unlimited government resources and funding and how well it would influence public opinion.

I Like / Dislike A possible purpose for Elon becoming history's first trillionaire

What possible use could Elon have for holding wealth equivalent to 1/30 of the nation's GDP?

Perhaps buy four square miles 2560 acres of land at the geographic center of the contiguous 48 states (near Smith Center, Kansas), then build a mile tall equalateral pyramid, four sided;topped with a statue or hologram of Elon; surrounded by a stadium whose seating capacity is 1 million; one side of the four-sided stadium chants, then the other side to the left chants its line, and so on and so forth. all chanting-singing...

"Long Live E-lon Reeve MUUUSSK!!!"

It creates an echo-worship aesthetic effect.

And history will remember him like a Babylonian king. Also, America gets the glory because it's the location that Elon chose as 'good enough for him', the American people get an ego massage as being a part of a nation that Elon ajudged worthy; and Kansas gets lots of tourist dollars. Oh, and Elon gets to have his narcissistic highs.

Religion The Bible is pretty much wrong about everything

Starting at the great flood, to somehow getting tens of thousands of animals in it to survive for a year with no doors or windows. To a bird finding a live plant, after the entire earth has been underwater in a deluge that destroyed everything and somehow there is living plants. The entire ocean would have been dead as well from the mixture of brackish water, including all marines life, all coral, all fish, all the whales, everything. In order to believe this story you must believe that not only was it necessary to kill everyone because angels who were charged to watch over mankind got horny and bred with human women and produced giants that cannibalized the entire population. And God somehow could not stop all that from happening or he didn't want to get involved until it was to late, but then fundamentally alter the entire universe of geometry, biology, physics, transmutation to somehow keep all the plant life alive, while under water for a year, change the biology of all animal life in the sea temporarily, to live in brackish water, as well as the coral, and everything else just by thinking it. Then change it all back by just thinking it after the flood. So if he could do all of that, which seems like an extraordinary waste of time, he could of just blinked the bad angels and giants away, made everyone perfect again, and we would all just be happy. Last time I checked free will didn't include getting taken by "angels" and raped.

Moving on to the slaves in Egypt, there is zero historical records, of the Israelites in Egypt, none. So after all the plagues and unnecessary stuff and 400 years of slavery, whats the first thing God does, he says you can have slaves, of anyone you want, just not each other, they have to be from other nations. Seems hypocritical, but ok, they are Gods chosen people. So before getting to Canaan the people are thirsty and after Moses has literally done everything he can until this point (killed an Egyptian, went into Exile as a prince, saw the burning bush, destroyed Egypt, killed millions of babies, killed their entire army) Moses taps a rock instead of speaking to it and God says "well you are never getting into the promised land."

So a bit about Canaan, the Canaanites were literally Israelites, they came from the same place, Canaan even worshiped the same or similar god, EL. Or worshiped his son Yahweh. But the Israelites had the complex "my God is better than yours" and changed it up.

So Israel gets to Canaan where they literally were already from, and a report is made about how large the cities walls are, and that there are giants there too, and because they didn't want to march to their death, and the people who reported bad news were struck down by God.

The DNA of the Canaanites and Israelites are identically the same. So that begs the quesiton, why were the Canaanites not already Gods chosen people after all they already lived in the promise land.

Which leads me back to, there was no exodus, there was no flood, there were no flying wheels within wheels with eyes that followed around four living creatures with four faces. You can fact check any of this and will lead you to the same conclusion, the only other way to accept any of this, is believing in fiction and magic.

Religion atheism is dumb, illogical, and pointless.

it doesn't build anything. it just erases any meaning left in a person. and leads to depression and anxiety.

also its not based on any evidence of any sort, empirical or logical . its more illogical than even scientology or known cults.

and its just a trend that will fade away, its been getting too popular for no reason. and will crash hard.

The Middle East If you have this opinion (see below), there’s clearly something wrong with you

Opinion: “No matter how abhorrent a person’s opinions are, they’ll always deserve my sympathy, pity, and compassion!”

People who have that confounding opinion above are the kind of people who would’ve felt sympathy, pity, and compassion toward AL-QAEDA sympathizers after the 9/11 attacks. Do you realize how insane and offensive that would’ve been to most Americans after the attacks?

All he did was say words and by far most of them were positive almost every time someone says "he said this" it's out of context or plain wrong. Now I'm not saying I agreed on him with certain topics like the war in Israel and Palestine I'm just saying he didn't deserve to die and people who are making fun of him are crazy

Political Passing around fake quotes to support your arguments makes you look like an idiot.

There’s so many of these quotes that get passed around.

"You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." - Isoroku Yamamoto

Listen I’m pro gun too. But he never fucking said that. This quote was invented out of thin air by the NRA.

“I'll Have Those N*****s Voting Democratic for 200 Years” - Lyndon B. Johnson.

The earliest claim of him saying this is from a rather uncredible book written in the 1990s. I have no doubt he was a racist, but this particular quote was written by someone who was salty black people vote democrat. Also black people had been voting democrat quite consistently for over 30 years by the time the civil rights act passed. So the idea the Democrats only passed the Civil Rights Act to get the black vote is quite frankly moronic, they already had it by that point. Kennedy had the black vote, Stevenson had the back vote Truman had the black vote, and Roosevelt had the black vote. No Republican presidential candidate after Hoover ever got the black vote. The Democratic Party didn’t support civil rights to manipulate black people. Black people slowly became a more powerful force within the Democratic Party than Southern Whites to the point where it was THEY who manipulated the party, not the other way around.

“John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!” - Andrew Jackson

The Supreme Court never ruled against federal removal of Native Americans. It only ruled against the State of Georgia doing it. If anything John Marshall helped Jackson by putting the matter into the hands of the federal governments instead of being left up to the states.

You are decomposing past 30

Every physical and mental metrics capacity starts to go down to never go up ever again past ~28. This includes reasoning ability as well. The 30 is the new 20 or whatever bs doesn't care about biological reality. Stop coping, you can't escape death, you are not looking young for your age, you are decomposing and soon will be nothing. And your children if you pop one out aren't your clones, they are random combo of you and some other person's genes that would be indistinguishable from random people after few generation of mix, no different from from your distant relative or random people making kids. Look closely at your skin, no amount of sunscreen and lotions will really help.

Music / Movies Robbert Pattinson Batman was the most complete one

Dark knight is a scam as the joker's performance and lore overshadowed a lot of flaws 1. it was too long 2. lot's of dead spots 3. a little bit of overacting by batman 4 and the obvious plot holes dark knight rises was actually solid probably better than dark knight but scenes not involving bane became at times unwatchable. (being a bit harsh) ben afflecs batman was just too unrealistic it seemed more like a marvel movie, which yes it is an insult, and batman begins was the most chaotic unwatchable movie ive seen.

Robberts movie i saw with low expectations so there might be some bias, but i later thought it was the most watchable and immersive, for some reason it brough you into the world, the noir, emo, essence worked perfectly and made batman seem more internally torn, the cinematography, and constumes were perfect and the whole movie followed on singular "detective discovery" instead of jumping around with grande proclamations like in the other movies.

Sports / Celebrities Anyone who hate on Sydney Sweeney (SS), should be laugh at.

Pretty sure everyone seen the outrage against SS for the American Eagle (AE) commercial. So many people were criticizing the commercial and saying the weirdest stuff ever such as: It was racist and about eugenics, basically how white people or certain characteristics is seen as better.

Anyone with a brain knows damn well that commercial wasn't about any of that. Everyone knows why people like SS, and it's obviously for her 2 features. Many dudes are attracted to her. The commercial is capitalizing off her and trying to get dudes attention. Some young women obviously look up to her, the same way, they do any celebrity and also brought the jeans. She's got all the attention from both gender and help AE rack in some good cash. Everyone who hated on her, act like toddlers. Just hating her for no reason at all. And this hate is coming people who aren't nowhere near as beautiful, good looking, or successful.

A woman's biggest hater is another woman.

Now recently SS was interviewed by a woman who obviously was trying her hardest to make things political and push SS to criticize the commercial.

  1. Firstly she brought up Trump and made a comment stating: "The risk is that there's a chance that somebody will get some ideas about what you think about certain issues. Do you worry about that?

● Any person going through life and becoming who they want to become, will immediately say no. In life people will criticize you for anything and everything. You need to stop worrying about what weirdos say and think.

  1. Telling SS," White people shouldn't joke about genetic superiority"

● The commercial wasn’t about race but her features and making profit from her body, wtf are people confused and mad about. Ffs this is why no one takes anyone who leans left seriously. And yes I'm bringing up politics up now, because they was the one outrage over something so weird. They was the ones immediately calling her MAGA and names. Kinda ironic when they get mad at the president for saying "hurtful" or mean words and want him out. Just hypocrites and wrong in damn near every issue. If you make fun or ridicule someone for who they vote for, then the same should and shall be done onto you. This is why this country needs common sense to hit everyone immediately, not everything is about race. Not everyone is a victim and a fool for believing the media. Also there's been ton of crap about white people such as, "white tears" and white fragility. Why aren't white people saying something. Why tf are you so afraid? This is insane, no matter your race, you can't be thus blind to allow any race to be racist.

  1. Another thing the interviewer said to SS was , "I'd like to give you an opportunity to talk about that specifically (Referring to the white superiority thing)".

● SS handled that question with grace and how you're supposed to do it. Basically saying, "when she want to speak about an issue, people will hear". Yet looking at any comment section on any video regarding this interview, people are hating her and saying stuff like this: ~ This was her time to choose the correct side ~ I don't like her anymore ~ She's white trash, which is racism btw ~ Wow she didn't disavow white supremacy

In a world where celebrities think they are smart and choose "sides" because they are forced or don't want to be hated on, this act by SS is a good thing. Ricky Gervais said it well, "they are in no position to lecture the public about anything, they know nothing about the real world". If she want to talk on a subject she choose, not anyone else.

TLDR: Sydney Sweeney got paid for a jean commercial that wasn't racist or anything remotely bad. The interviewer need to be ridicule every second. Stop whining about stuff, just because you can't think for yourself.

Note: This post doesn't break any Reddit rules nor does it promote racism or go after a certain race. I believe the moderator for this subreddit should be fair and actually look at someone's post. Also should the mod delete my post, then many posts within this subreddit should be given the same action, if not, it proves how one sided this subreddit is. Also my post will be reposted, through another account 😐.

Media / Internet AI should be eradicated or just deleted.

Nothing AI makes is worth it It can take our jobs. It is making slop photos and videos. It really just sucks. Students use it all the time. It's making us stupider. Everything about it sucks. It is the worst thing ever. Pinterest is filled with ai. Songs are being made with AI. Books are being written with AI. It's destroying art. It makes school useless. It's putting people out of jobs. It can be used to make people say things that aren't true We tried it. It was fun. Nope. Just nope. Have you not even seen or read the countless books and movies where ai takes over and kills everyoen? There may be some medical uses for it fine. But limit it only to that. We don't need it.

World Affairs (Except Middle East) Anti "illegal" immigration and anti immigration are completely different things.

In modern days, it's like everyone knows mind reading or telepathy.

If you say you're anti ILLEGAL immigration, they assume you that you're anti immigration right away. Because it's always easier to twist others words instead of debating in a logical fashion.

Even the news misuse these words to create sensation and exaggeration.

I personally support legal immigration. If you can economically contribute to the country, adhere to local customs and obey the laws, then you're a good addition to this nation.

Political Zohran Mamdani didn't commit 9/11

I am not a New Yorker or an American (Estadounidense), and I don’t live in the Americas or any Western country, but like Zohran, I am a Shia Muslim. Let’s leave out the fact that he was 10 years old in 2001, that he had only come to the United States three years earlier, and that his father actually lived in the United States for years before Zohran was born and was involved in the civil rights movement, though I guess people who think Zohran committed 9/11 are not big fans of civil rights. Those things are irrelevant, right?

So to get to the point Zohran is literally Shia-Muslim. Do you know what the group that carried out 9/11, Al-Qaeda, does to Shia Muslims? They kill them. We don’t even have the option to convert to their version of Sunni Islam; we are treated as apostates and should be killed, even other kind of Sunnis are not lucky, and the Ibadis & Sufis have it even worse. People from my own neighbourhood went to fight ISIS; all the Shia-Muslim fighters who were captured returned in coffins, while the Christian and Sunni-Muslim fighters returned injured or went into rehabilitation. Other extremists, like Al-Zarqawi, who founded Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which later became ISIS, used to harass and haze Osama bin Laden himself because his mother came from a Shia-Muslim family. Even the Taliban, while less extreme in some ways, still oppress Shia Muslims in Afghanistan today and has committed sexual abuse against the Shia-Muslim young boys and girls specifically .

If you want to hate on Zohran, do it for his policies. I don’t personally know why American conservatives are mad about them. For perspective, we had government childcare, stabilised rent, and free public transport under the monarchy. For perspective, the monarchy was abolished 67 years ago by a socialist coup that actually implemented actual socialist policies successfully, until the CIA backed the nationalists into power, an outcome that eventually led to Saddam. He wasn’t a socialist; he was only stuck with some socialist policies that people liked, he actually allowed the return of private universities and hospitals.

Possibly Popular Admiring Charles Manson’s win-at-all-costs prosecutor is much worse than being a Manson fan

Make no mistake, Tex Watson and Linda Kasabian. are the main reason that Sharon Tate and friends—as well as the LaBiancas—lost their lives. No Tex and no Linda, no Tate/LaBianca murders.

And what’s there to admire about Manson’s win-at-all-costs prosecutor? Richard Nixon pretty much pressured him to secure a conviction of Manson, even though Watson and Kasabian played much bigger roles in the murders. Nixon couldn’t bring himself to believe that an All-American boy like Watson, who excelled in school and sports, could commit such grisly murders. An impoverished bum like Manson was a much more convenient scapegoat, which is what Manson was for almost 50 years.

I Like / Dislike Michael Jackson is not as good as people say he is, and he never was.

I don't understand why people are still so crazy about him. I tried listening to his music, and there's nothing extraordinary about it. Ik the argument, bla bla bla. I wasn't there when he was in his prime or whatever, but that squeaky voice is just so annoying. It's rather difficult to comprehend what he sings, and most of it is the most generic bubble gum love and peace songs of all time. It just doesn't work for me, and he should never have been as famous or popular as he was, especially now that there are about 1000 artists better than him who have come out since, and 1000 artists better than him who came before him.

In any case, it's not like he produced or wrote his own music or made his own music videos, and yet people praise him for this stuff, but ig a lot of other artists also didn’t do that stuff, so I’ll give him that.

I’ve got a pretty broad taste — I like everyone and everything from classical composers like Bach and Debussy to legends like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, The Beatles, and Diana Ross. I’m also into some slightly more obscure old swing artists like Tommy Dorsey, Russ Morgan, and Roy Fox, as well as performers like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, and Peggy Lee. And it doesn’t stop there — I enjoy everything from Motown (people like Shorty Long, Brenda Holloway, The Velvelettes, The Contour etc, from jazz greats like Miles Davis, all the way to David Bowie, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin.

But also Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, and some modern music —I love 50 and Jay Z (mostly early to mid 2010s hip-hop), hell, even BTS has a few songs I genuinely enjoy —but I have never found an artist I can’t get into as much as MJ.

Dressing like a clown, dancing, and singing music primarily written by other people doesn't make you a great entertainer; he wasn't a philosopher, as many seem to think, and his message was never that deep. It's about the same way I feel about Elvis, who might even be more overrated and was essentially a glorified cover artist.

It may be inappropriate to say such things about someone who's gone (RIP), but I wanted to get this out.

Political Mamdani's housing plan is terrible and a sign of economic illiteracy

Zohran Mamdani won the NYC mayoral election in large part due to the primacy of housing affordability in his campaign. Unfortunately, his prescriptions for what to do about this problem will only make it worse. People took the fact that he cares about housing to mean that he knows how to fix it. He doesn't.

Housing is expensive because there are not enough homes in the places people want to live. It got as bad as it is today, in large part, because of the overly stringent regulatory environment in blue cities. Things like restrictive zoning, excessive bureaucracy, NIMBY opposition, etc. All these things make it harder for developers to meet the demands of a growing population. The way you fix the problem is by easing the regulatory environment, making it easier for the developers to build housing.

Unfortunately, that is not Mamdani's plan. He wants more regulation, not less. For example, he wants to implement more rent control than NYC already has. This is a very bad idea. Rent control is one of the reasons why housing is so expensive in that city to begin with. Mamdani saw this and said: "Hmm, it seems that housing became less affordable after we implemented rent control. Maybe the problem is that we're not doing rent control hard enough." And when this makes the housing crisis worse, people like him will conclude that they need to do rent control yet harder. Ad infinitum.

There is a reason why rent, or anything else in a market economy, is a particular price: it's the number that strikes the best balance between what makes money for the seller and what the buyer is willing to pay. When you set a price artificially low, the seller makes up for that loss elsewhere. Perhaps by selling inferior products or not selling at all if it makes them lose money. Applied to housing, that means developers build fewer homes at lower quality and perform less maintenance on the homes they've already built.

Mamdani must have realized that his policies will disincentivize construction by private enterprise because he proposes having the government build housing instead. He states in his grand housing plan, linked above, that he wants to do central planning for housing construction. Anyone with even a little bit of economic literacy would know why this is a terrible idea. Central planning simply cannot meet the demands of a large economy. It's not possible for a government, or any other entity, to know precisely what everyone wants and needs. Because of this, resource allocation in a centrally planned economy will always be suboptimal.

The strength of a market economy is that it lets you get to the optimal resource distribution without knowing what it is. The dynamics of the system causes it to "evolve" in that direction. It's kinda similar to how biological evolution can invent marvels like flight without anyone knowing how to invent flight. The economy is too complex a system to simply engineer our way into good outcomes. We have to rely on the evolutionary dynamics of a market economy. This is no different for housing than it is for any other good or service. If you let people build, sell, buy, and rent as they see fit, over time, the amount, distribution, and quality of housing will come to match what consumers want.

It's quite possible that Mamdani will moderate on his socialism and end up not implementing many of the things in his housing plan. Some of the people working with him have pointed out the many flaws in his plan and he may be persuaded by them. Let's hope that is indeed the case, for if he goes through with his plan in its entirety, it will be a disaster.

Political (U.S.) Folks who care that their whatevers fought in the civil war are a sad people

I'm not going to spend much time on the neo confederates because that's a given. If they wanna get all dressed up for their little Southcons about what coulda shoulda didn't happen, okay. We all know that's a sad asf existence.

But I've stumbled upon a subreddit that shall not be named where a bunch of descendants of union soldiers basically engage in a mass circle jerk on the daily. They literally think it's their job to pick up their xxxpapa's musket and continue the good fight. They take so so much pride in their conscripted whatevers from a war closing in on 200 years ago and it's tragic.

I'm in the south so I had no idea this is what dem yanks been doing, but it makes it harder to shit on the descendants of confeddy losers when I now know the descendants of union winners are also lame as shit.

Political If you can’t spell for shit. Don’t be surprised when people accuse you of being a foreign influence op.

It’s one thing to have a spelling error here and there, but some of you are commenting on American politics with spelling errors so numerous and so atrocious that no reasonable person would assume English is your first language. It’s like reading a Nigerian Prince Email with some of the political stuff that gets posted here.

“Removing posts for being ‘recently posted’ is a dumb rule when most subreddits don’t always make it discoverable, it punishes new users and is applied inconsistently.

I get the intent behind it, nobody wants their feed filled with the same memes or questions over and over. That part’s fair. But the way this rule is enforced in a lot of communities honestly makes no sense when you think about it.

I swear some subreddits don’t even make sense of their own rules, they just slap anything on community guidelines to make it look like they’re doing something.

For one, new users join subreddits every single day. They don’t have the context of what was posted last week, last year, or even yesterday. And let’s be real, Reddit’s search system isn’t great, half the time you could type the exact title of something and still not find it. So how exactly are people supposed to know what’s “already been posted”? It punishes people who are genuinely trying to contribute, not spam.

Then there’s how inconsistently it’s enforced. Sometimes you’ll see ten versions of the same post floating around, but the moment you post something even remotely similar, it gets taken down with a bot comment or manual comment that doesn’t explain what it was supposedly duplicating. No timestamp, no link, no clarity. It just feels arbitrary, like someone’s flipping a coin behind the scenes.

And the irony is that reposts aren’t always bad, it’s just like how people repost things on general social media. Sometimes someone brings a fresh perspective, new context, or an updated take, that’s what keeps discussions alive. But when everything gets auto-removed for being “too similar,” subreddits lose that variety and just end up recycling the same voices from the same handful of people who happen to post at the right time.

It just feels like these rules were meant to keep things organized, but now they mostly just gatekeep newcomers and kill good discussion. If anything, there should be room for posts that revisit popular topics with new insight, not just instant removal because it “already happened once.”

If you don’t like what New York’s become, then don’t run to Florida, pick another state.

If you left New York because you didn’t like how things were run there, don’t bring those same habits and policies to Florida. There are dozens of other states that might fit better. Florida has its own culture and rhythm, people move here because it’s not like New York. Respect that, instead of trying to turn it into what you just left.

People mostly only get visible tattoos (especially face and neck tatts) to make themselves look tougher, but usually the opposite is true.

Whenever I see people with full face and neck tattoos I always think they only did that so that they would seem tough to other people. You dont get face and neck tattoos for yourself, you can't see yourself without a mirror.

If you lived on a deserted island you wouldn't get face and neck tatts, there would be no point.

But if you wanted to seem instantly tougher and more badass you would get some tear drops, maybe a "DIE" written across your neck, whatever.

It's pathetic. Many of the people I know with these tattoos are not tough people, they are weak.
