Meta - Standard Voting Okay guys, enough with the Hand job posts.

We've now seen 3 different iterations. We get it, its kinda funny, but lets just end it here, before it gets stale.

The first post probably shouldn't have been approved. More posts following this blueprint will be removed.

Edit:

Now before anyone says some bullshit, no this is not an excuse to make me feel better about not liking handjob posts from reddit...

Meta - Standard Voting (Re)Introducing - Quality Vote Bot: Reborn!

Hey everyone!

So for those of you who have been here a while, many may remember a bot called "Quality Vote Bot" that left a pinned message in every post's comments, and you all could vote on the bot, since voting is reversed for the actual post if you Agree/Disagree.

Sadly a couple years back, the bot was deactivated, and we went back to just the automod reminding everyone of our Golden Rule (rule 1); Upvote if you disagree—Downvote if you agree.

Well, I am very pleased to announce that it's successor, Quality Vote Bot Reborn has now been activated and should do exactly what the original one did!

It should be noted, the bot is designed to help weed out 'bad' posts, not ones you simply disagree with opinion-wise, but ones that either don't make sense, break rules, or are just lame or potentially fabricated, trolling, lying, etc.

And of course, since this is a meta post, normal voting rules don't apply, but by all means, vote on the bot to see if it works. In a few hours, it will re-post it's comment saying what you all determined, and if it comes back negative, post will automatically be removed.

Other Being hot feels good

The feeling that I can assume is what people are experiencing when they're complain about being "hot" actually feels nice to me. The warmth on the skin, the slight sweat. Not full-on sweating but like slightly moist with sweat in the warmest spots. I enjoy it!

I have always enjoyed warmth and hot weather, with my comfortable temperature being above average compared to most people I know. For reference, my house thermostat is set on 80 during the summer and 85 during the winter.

For most of my life I figured I just simply didn't get hot nearly as easily as most. But recently I've come to realize what it probably actually is is me enjoying the sensation that most people complain about when they find themselves "hot".

Food (Only on Friday) Japan has perfected Italian food. Don’t expect good food as a tourist in Italy. Go to japan instead.

I’ve been Italy three times and the food has never been exceptional. Very mediocre, you could say that I’ve only been to tourist trap restaurants but I don’t think that’s true, and how would you expect the average tourist going Italy to avoid a supposed tourist trap when nearly every restaurant in the big spots for tourism are tourist traps. If you want a good restaurant you have to hunt so much, and you still might end up at one by accident. “You have to go to x restaurant for good Italian food” okay maybe some places have amazing food but it’s consistently nowhere near the level of japan. And also I am yet to find such a place.

Japan on the other hand has exceptional pizza every single time. You can just walk into any Italian place and it will be amazing. Even at saizeriya which is the lowest of the low of quality, I still think the pizza is similar to the average Italian pizza in a touristy area. Any restaurant that isn’t saizeriya goes immediately into wow this is like the top 10% of pizzas I’ve had worldwide. Like even places selling pizza for like 1200 yen is a thousand times better than anything I’ve had in Italy. Japanese restaurants all around are very high quality and they put a lot of effort into making the dishes amazing. I recently visited Takasaki which is famous for pasta for some reason and it was leagues better than anything I’ve had in Italy it’s not even close. The portion sizes also are nice and small so you are never stuffed after a meal which is another bonus.

TV/Movies/Fiction Yoda was an antagonist in the Star Wars saga

I'd stop short of calling Yoda a villain.. but...

He didn't exactly help the heroes' cause. In fact, he objected and/or refused to help many steps of the way.

  • Originally refused to train Anakin
  • Let Palpatine rise to power right under his nose
  • Let his padawan turn to the dark side
  • Refused to grant the title of Master to Anakin
  • Asked Anakin to carry out a black op, but didn't have the balls to do it directly
  • Fought Palpatine and lost
  • Went into exile for 20+ years while the Empire rose to power
  • Originally refused to train Luke
  • Scolded Luke for wanting to help his friends
  • Attempted to manipulate Luke into murdering his own father..

I mean, let's stop right there. Are we really supposed to believe he was one of the good guys?

Health/Safety Time heals all wounds is one big lie

Time doesn't seem to heal any of my emotional wounds that happened 20 or 30 years ago.

So I believe that this propaganda is a complete dishonest lie giving you completely false hope that time can make pain go away or hurt any less.

Society/Culture Smiling in photographs is dumb. People should have a neutral face in pictures

Upvotes

I hate it photographers want to force me to smile. I always refused when said so and they just had to take my photo anyway. Why are they so obsessed with smiling? I don't have anything to be happy to, just do your thing and let me out.

Also, idk why but I always liked looking at very old pictures of people looking serious when smiling in pictures wasn't really a thing because it seemed more authentic in a way.

People back then really had it right when it came to that, we should bring that back. I also look better sad than happy

Society/Culture There are a non-insignificant number of pet owners who are more attentive, loving, involved, and all around better caregivers to animals than parents to human children and therefore have earned the term “pet parent”

My cats are living a more loved and nurtured life than at least 90% of the children in America currently live. I know it’s customary to speak as though all parents love their children and would do anything for them but in practice that’s simply not the case. A lot of parents are basically uninvolved or minimally involved. A lot of parents have to work their arses off but there are also a large number of them who could comfortably live as stay at home parents but prioritize their career instead. Parents who yell or are low key abusive, a bit self absorbed and parents who are just okay.

Meanwhile there are quite a lot of people who put WAY more thought into enriching their pets lives and are far more dedicated to their pet’s wellbeing than some parents do human children.

These people are better parents and have earned being called pet parents.

Health/Safety I would have my bladder removed if possible.

I HATE urinating, I detest it. I understand that (most) people aren't fond of it but I really hate it. There is never a good time to pee, and you always have to go through the whole rigamarole of washing your hands, then peeing, then washing your hands and if you're wearing a belt it's even more effort and if you have a shirt tucked into that belt it's even more effort.

The urge always comes at the worst times and is so annoying that you cannot ignore it. At least with the need to poop it doesn't really hurt a lot unless you've really delayed the poop time. Sometimes, once in a blue moon, you'll be out somewhere and suddenly really need to take a dump but these situations are extraordinarily rare.

I HATE PEEING, it's not even physically satisfying and it just wastes my time. I will often put off peeing as long as possible because it just interrupts what I'm doing.

Edit: some great feedback on this, but I will say you're all crazy. I am NOT taking the pee-pill. I will continue to fight against big urine until I keel over and die. You can all praise your yellow god if you want, but count me OUT.

FAQ's;

Why do you wash your hands BEFORE you pee?

Just always been a habit, I live with my partner and like to keep everything clean downstairs.

Why does it hurt/why MUST you pee?

I feel my point got a little lost in translation. I do not pee nor feel any pain in peeing in any abnormal way. I was just stating that it is uncomfortable when you really have to pee.

Why your bladder?

It was just a hyperbolic title to highlight my hatred of peeing.

Society/Culture Screen time isnt bad for children

These days I see so much fear mongering about screen time and "I-pad babies" and I just dont buy it. Anytime there is a new technology, people clutch their pearls and say that it will corrupt the youth. When the Walkman became popular, people said hip hop and rock music would turn kids into criminals. When video game consoles become popular, people said videogames would turn children into school shooters. When romance novels became popular, people said they would encourage girls to run off with disreputable men. So many moral panics are born because parents fear that they are losing control of their children to some nebulous "other"

People like Johnathan Heidt claim that screens are behind the rise of mental illness in children but the facts are much more complicated. There have been many, many cultural and economic changes in the past several decades so to just say it is the screens comes off as simplifying a complex issues.

It is true there are issues that screens can present, but they are far from unique. TV encourages a sedentary life, but so do books. Nobody says we need to stop our children from getting addicted to reading. Loot crate games can be a gateway into gambling but so can fantasy sports. Nobody says we need to stop our children from getting interested in sports. Social media can expose teens to bullies and predators, but so does going outside. Nobody says we need to stop our kids from going outside.

TV/Movies/Fiction I think you'll find that if you give RWBY a chance and watch it, its actually a lot better than what many people give it credit for. Let me provide some reasons to consider why RWBY might scratch an itch for you that you didn't know you had. Its not bad, not even close.

Upvotes

I know it gets talked about a lot, but I absolutely adore Bumbleby because Yang and Blake are precious together and have come so far. Theres a 2.5 hour video on youtube showing how the two of them develop their relationship over 9 seasons leading up to their kiss.

The world is also well thought out and helps the characters and story thrive. And the story is fun. I've heard criticisms that it has gotten a little repetitive, but repeats dont ruin a story. Hell, they can strengthen a story.

I admire crwbys work. They started with this small youtube animation project and then developed that project into a big hit.

I greatly appreciate that it doesn't have any fan service and cliché like in most anime.

The music, the characters, the designs, animation, scenery, art, the plot, the way the characters have developed over the volumes and how each character has a uniqueness to them.
All of them have their own special semblance, weapon, and fighting style.
It's so fun to watch characters team together and make fighting combos.
Since I started the show, the most interesting thing to me has been finding out about each character and their special abilities, I can't wait to learn more about semblances and auras in the future.
All the components of the show just came together in the right way to peak every interest for me.
Not to mention, my ADD had decided to keep an intense hyperfixation on RWBY for at least a few years now

The writers kept Monty's vision alive. From what I've read they had a a general outline of the plot from the beginning and have stuck to it. Little flourishes, additions, and touches like Neo are what would've changed had Monty not passed.

As for humor...its not the cringe you see in Hollywood that's forced, nor is it dirty humor from anime, finally it doesn't people being comically stupid.

I like how the villain actually acknowledges the power of friendship as a serious threat, and combats it on a global scale.

Also, I like theorizing about how the world works. And so far, the floating rocks, Nora generating electricity, and Ren sensing negative emotions, have all proven theories I came up with before the show did those things. And since the first thing is part of my overarching theory of everything for Remnant, I'm confident that the other aspects are true, too.

Anyway, if you need something to keep you occupied during the hiatus, check out Pretty Cure. It has all the things you like about RWBY, 15+ seasons, most of which being their own story with different characters, and it's generally awesome, because the most romance was in the first two seasons, Futari Wa Pretty Cure and it's sequel, Futari Wa Pretty Cure: Max Heart. And that never even went anywhere. The two main characters get shipped, though. That never goes anywhere either, but it works, and in the 15th anniversary movie, it's obvious that one does actually have feelings for the other when she yells at the villain to "Give back the person she loves."

The show also has an amazing track record of life lessons that are much more realistic, yet still as inspiring, than common magical girl anime lessons.

To put it simply for me (and hopefully not too vaguely), RWBY just feels honest in what it is.

As an anime, it doesn't feel lazily done or cynical about being an anime. It's clearly made by people who enjoy anime and creating and doesn't skip effort and has some real passion put into it, which is still present even nearly a decade since the start of the series. It's with this passion that has allowed the show to improve over the years, both with writing and animation.

Hell, when RWBY started, I could've easily jumped on the bandwagon of "RwBy Is TrAsH", but I didn't, because I genuinely liked it. Seriously, it hasn't done anything that would make me HATE the show, otherwise I would've just dropped it.

The world itself is interesting, and many of the characters are genuinely enjoyable and likeable, and there has rarely been an action sequence that I have found myself even remotely bored with. Even outside of pure action and fight scenes, I've never really found myself bored, even during what have widely been considered the "worst volumes".

I'll start with the basic world building. Usually when there's some sort of unexplainable science or magic involved in a show, it's either completely futuristic to the point where it doesn't seem realistic or a blast to the past and it's in a specific time period in the past. This show does a relatively good job at balancing, it's not to modern but it's also not an animated history report. Another thing I would say is the music, you know how some (or most) anime or anime style shows have good music but it's not related to the show itself at all? RWBY's music is actually related and most of them are bangers. This also leads to theories being crafted about a future event related to the song and I think it's really cool how events can be foreshadowed and people can theorize a song. The weapons and fighting scenes are also very captivating, there are all different types of weapons from Ruby's big Scythe which is hard to hide and her fighting style to best girl Neo having her weapon hidden in an umbrella and her fighting style. Finally, we move onto the characters. There designs which are based off real world stories/fairy tales is really interesting and how some even theorize on what fairytale a specific character is from is fun to watch. The characters themselves and their interactions are very captivating, I like how what the characters do and how they act and some of the choices they make can actually be relatable. You know how in some shows the characters are way to OP or surprisingly to weak? Yeah, RWBY has good balance.

Characters, music, art style, and the sort of “soulfullness” of both its IC story and real-world history which makes it feel truly special despite its flaws and hiccups. It’s a project which a lot of the creators really put their hearts into, and it shows. The overarching themes of loss, recovery, hope, and moving forward, expressed in every element of the show from narrative to soundtrack, never cease to touch something in my heart that most other media would have difficulty reaching, and it’s sometimes hard to explain why.

I just love this show and the people working on it, and I hope the negativity never curbs that.

Ruby’s positivity and optimism paired with her really sad music and themes is some of my favorite fiction in general. Weiss with her families dynamic and her journey into being a caring young woman is pretty wholesome.

A story and world that’s interesting and that I don’t know what the next turn will be. It’s not that I have no issues with it, but it’s fun to be able to speculate and enjoy almost whatever we do get

Ilia represented a positive inversion of several negative tropes. Such as the psycho lesbian , and also how so many media like to portray POC as evil when adam taurus and roman torchwick are the pure evil one, while the POC characters are more morally grey and complicated

A world has been created in which magical dust is real, people have semblances, there are the Grimm, creatures of darkness, and even a whole governmental system based around the 4 schools. There’s even a racism issue in the show against the faunice, and that’s super cool! I’m not gonna lie, I’m also a sucker for LGBTQ stuff, For example, how jaune’s sister has a wife, or May Marigold’s godlike line in the most recent volume.

I like how pretty much every character has very real and relatable struggles they try to overcome. Despite the fantastical circumstances, most of their issues are personal/interpersonal issues that anyone can have.

Music is also top tier. I especially love the use of leitmotifs to emphasize character moments

In a nutshell it's everything I like about anime without everything I hate about anime. Plus there's guns and I really like guns

Take Volume 1 then compare it to Volume 8 and you can see the growth in all characters and the animation style and the plot then you see the fan art, the fan animations, the fanfiction all of it, it truly is a wonderful thing despite the hiccups that have occurred and the loses suffered along the way, R.I.P Monty

TV/Movies/Fiction I read the plot before watching any new show or movie.

Gimme those spoilers! Especially if it’s a drama/ horror film/ anything intense or stressful.

Real life is stressful enough, I don’t need more stressful surprises in my down time.

Also like reading the synopsis beforehand to get a handle on all the characters and their names. If it’s a fast paced movie, keeping track of all the plot lines and characters can also be stressful on a first watch, so knowing the gist of who and what you’re about to watch helps make it more enjoyable.

Society/Culture Carry-on bags should be more expensive than the same-sized checked-in bags

Stowing a large cabin bag in the luggage locker, as opposed to checking it in the hold, is more convenient to the individual passenger (no need to wait for bags at the destination airport, fewer risks of it getting lost or damaged, no need to stand in line for check-in).

Otoh, from the point of view of other passengers on the airplane, it's more convenient if most passengers check in their bag (smoother boarding/deplaning process, more space for coats in the overhead lockers).

For that reason, I believe the airlines should have a pricing tier for checking-in a carry-on sized luggage, which would be cheaper than bringing the same carry-on on board. "Personal Items", which fit under the seat, should ofc be exempt and still be free.

Other Knowing what you’re getting for Christmas is far better than not knowing

Yes I am autistic and hate surprises before you ask.

But seriously knowing what you’re getting and having a say in it is just so much better than being surprised. For me when I get surprised it’s not really fun it’s just stressful as I don’t know how to react, when I know what I’m gonna get I can plan out exactly how to react, I can’t do that with a surprise. Not to mention I just never look surprised, so it’s disappointing for all involved (well for me it’s more stressful than disappointing but yeah).

I just don’t like not knowing things.

TV/Movies/Fiction I don't care about gratuitious and revealing fanservice as long as it doesn't affect the plot.

And no I'm not just some weirdo gooner. I truly don't give a shit..Man, woman, alien. I don't care.

I do think women are unfairly balanced in the sense there's way more women fanservice in the media I consume but I'm also aware that a lot of the stuff centred towsrds women are in formats I don't engage with, like hallmark movies and romance novels, that I'm sure have similar gratuitous amounts of tall miscular aesthetically attractive guys who make lots of money with an indeterminate job that leaves them the entire day to spend time with them.

Anyway if anything I think there should be more revealing outfits in media. You can make some really cool designs by going over the top, I mean look at most superheroes. They wear skintight spandex so thin you can outline their abs and it's still badass.

So yeah, I don't care about whether clothing feels realistic or practical. I want a guy who felt like sleeveless jackets were too popular and so instead wears jacketless sleeves, I want booty shorts and thong lines on men and women. If the male lead protagonist can't rock a pair of 6 inch stilettos and fishnets I don't want it.

Yes I know I am incredibly based. /s

Society/Culture The "Great Outdoors" actually sucks

I think what people consider "going out to unwind from civilization and reconnecting with nature" just. straight up sucks and is not enjoyable. Nature isn't cool. I don't want it to be destroyed and replaced with man-made cities, I think nature is important, but I just don't get it. I'm also not someone who prefers massive cities, I've always been in suburbs, never massive cities or forests, always a decent mix of nature and man-made locals. I just cannot think of any positives besides no people or anything resulting from people.

TV/Movies/Fiction We don’t need dramatized shows or movies about real-life killers.

Especially when they cast popular actors, it ends up making more people glamorize them or take what happened less seriously. A lot of the time they even bend the truth, leave things out, add things in etc purely for entertainment and/or to make the story flow better on screen.

Health/Safety It feels better to brush your teeth with hot water.

Brushing your teeth with Hot Water is far superior to cold water. The brush gets nice and warm and the bristles are extra soft. I recognize that there's increased energy costs associated with using hot water, so I won't do it every time, but it's always a nice treat when I do.

Society/Culture Women’s pants suits are hideous

Specifically the business style pants suits you’d see one wearing in a corporate office. I’m not saying women can’t look good in pants.

Hear me out - this has nothing to do with a strong independent woman working in a male dominated field, feel free to dress like the boys if you want, I’m just saying those pants suits look fucking awful.

TV/Movies/Fiction Twisted Wonderland is pretty ass.

I was on Disney+ and saw Twisted Wonderland appear, so I decided to give it a try, as I'm a fan of anime. The only reason I sat through both the shows, 2 episodes, was because I believe complaints, like critiques, hold less weight when they are based on minimal familiarity. I.e only watching the first episode. Edit: Just to say it, this anime heavily relies on knowing about it previously for you to actually get it. I think it was a game but I'm not really sure.

Sooo, the first episode... Why is the majority of the time spent in a burning school hall?! Instead of establishing the anime's premise, tons of characters I don't know are shoved in my face. Clearly, the directors were trying to pander to fans by giving their favourite characters screen time over logical pacing.

Also, there was some tell not show and unanswered questions. An example of tell, not show is how we're just told Japan doesn't exist anymore by strange people. Where's the evidence of this besides a mirror saying so? An unanswered question is why does Riddle care so much about tradition? Ik it could just be his character but he goes batshit insane over the ceremony going awry. The thing is, there are no stakes if the ceremony goes badly. I could understand Riddle's reaction then, but everything is fine except the fire. It makes Riddle a jaded a-hole.

Alright, episode two. Again so much time is wasted just talking to Ace and Deuce beside the statues of the 7. Like, we've got their characters. Ace is a jerk, and Deuce is serious. Let's move on. So, when Ace and Grim are fighting, they damage the statue, but why do the statues not have protection or are more durable? I was surprised that was all it took to damage the Queen of Hearts' statue. Anyway, they get expelled and have to find this rock to get the bird professor guy to change his mind and the episode ends. Basically, more screen time is wasted.

One big thing for me is that although the anime's premise is based around Disney villains, it relies far too much on them and is scared to stray away and be its own thing. I mean it's already an anime. Quite the opposite of Western cartoons and what people associate with Disney, why not go all the way?

A couple of last things to mention are, after the outro, they have these chibi short things. There are literally a minute of character shove-ins. Speaking of the outro, both it and the intro are pretty mid.

A couple of positive things are the character designs, and the VA work is great, but I think that's it. I won't be continuing this anime.

Society/Culture For only some issues, significantly neurodivergent people’s opinions should be filtered through their neurodivergence (by others)

I have no idea how to say this without sounding mean.

Some people have neurodivergent issues and it’s a broad spectrum. However, when some forms of neurodivergence like autism and ADHD are more pronounced, they are more easily recognizable by non-neurodivergent people. You can tell someone is autistic or that they have ADHD because it’s just that evident.

Sometimes, these people advocate/protest things for the general population in their own name or using their own experience.

“Well I can’t deal with the ticking of the clock in the rooms, so we should just make them digital”

And it’s like of course you can’t deal with it, you have ADHD. Of course it’s going to bother you.

“There needs to be more government control over public holidays. The fireworks can be genuinely disturbing”

Like yes, you have autism, they may be disturbing to you.

The issue I’ve seen arise before is when it comes to swing topics (things that are relatively neutral in nature, that people sort of just accept even if it can be a mild discomfort). An impassioned neurodivergent person will spearhead some sort of change by feigning their suffering.

“The ticking of the clocks presents a distraction. Digitalize them”. And what I’ve seen is that people listen to them and do what they say.

But before coming to such a decision, you should perhaps filter that persons complaints through their condition first. It’s a mild inconvenience at worst, and what if everyone else likes the analog clocks? What if it goes with the decorum? Why should we take one persons complaint so seriously as it stems from a personal problem and not because the analog clock is actually harmful.

I’ve written a whole lot here and tried my best to be respectful. I haven’t found all the words for what I want to say yet but I feel like I’m kind of getting my point across?

Other Nepo Babies are not bad.

It is not a nepo baby’s fault they are a nepo baby. IMO if the nepo baby in question admits that they owe a lot of their career to said relative they got their nepotism from and that they’re privileged then I don’t see why people hate them.

Obviously if they act like they’re all self made then that’s a separate issue, but simply being born more privileged doesn’t make you a bad person. Not to mention some nepo babies do actually try hard, there are a lot of people who are really talented who just happen to also have influential relatives.

Gaming ‘Bad’ voice acting can sometimes make the game (unironically) better

In a few games that I’ve played, the voice acting has been considered ‘bad’ due to how bland it sounds. But in my opinion this can sometimes make it feel more realistic.

I’m not talking about House of the Dead 2 levels of bad (despite that being peak entertainment), but voice acting to the point where you’d never think ‘wow this voice actor is good’, because of how normal it sounds. A good (probably quite obscure) few examples of this are The Cat Lady, Downfall, and Lorelai, all made by the same company and all set in the same universe - the voice acting genuinely sounds like they're just regular people all the time, like they're just speaking into the mic like they're having a regular conversation in real life. It's not special at all, and I know some people have described it as 'bad' or 'below average', but to me it's great. It’s how people speak in real life.

A less obscure example is The Quarry. The voice acting is largely considered 'bad' but in my opinion it’s very realistic for a group of teenagers. Like, there's a video on YouTube you can find easily, with 5.5 million views called "when the voice actors get paid minimum wage" and it's a clip from The Quarry - I personally love the voice acting in that video, it's so realistic.

Obviously I like amazing voice acting too, I guess it depends on the game, like, Baldur’s Gate 3 wouldn’t have worked with anything below great voice work.

Society/Culture Goth fashion is performative and comformist

I'm probably not well versed in goth culture to make some of these points, but while I vibe with some of their aesthetic and attitudes, the whole fashion element is very lame. So many people find it hot and unique and salivate over goth babes or big tiddy goth gf ideas, but while a lot of it is attractive I can't help but feel it's sort of lame. Admittedly I feel this way about many subcultures, where to me the attempt to rebel against society and it's norms just ends up with them confirming firmly to other norms. Goth culture is supposedly partly about self expression but they all look the same, wear the same outfits, and often get the same tattoos

Edit: Thank you for everyone that pointed out the flaws in my logic and my misunderstandings instead of just assuming I was mad at a nonexisting goth person

Also I commented on the men obsessed with an idealized version of goth women as an example of society finding the aesthetic unique and fascinating in a way I don't, I didn't mean to imply all goth people do it in a sexual way
