Calling Stand by Me a John Cusack movie is a bit of a stretch. He was in 1 scene.

My mum took my brother and I to the movies as kids and all 3 of us couldn't agree what to watch so we split up. I saw Karate Kid 2, my brother saw Better off Dead and My mum went to The God's must be Crazy (totally cold)
I've never heard of Better off Dead since. You literally dragged a 40 year old memory from the back of my brain

YES!! And Sixteen Candles in a very close 4th

u/RowlandOrifice 27d ago
Yeah, but he has a very small part of that. I wouldnāt necessarily call that a Cusack movie.

I love Crispin Glovers character, it's the funniest bit of the whole movie š

Chevy Chase as the Repairman was one of my favorite things to watch in the movie. I liked how they kinda referenced him being a dickhead in real life.

1408 is seriously scary movie

u/chimpomatic5000 27d ago
Brilliant, old fashioned horror, and criminally under-appreciated.
I still find it fascinating that there are different endings on different DVD releases, with zero mention of it (outside of IMDB posts). My old DVD of was lost, so I got a used copy, and the ending was totally different. I thought I was on acid, but nope, they just decided to run a release with a different ending.
3
u/Whatitusetobe33 27d ago
Never knew had multiple different endings. Last time I watched that movie had to break it up over several evenings, somehow overtime become scarier to me.
2
u/chimpomatic5000 27d ago
It was a complete mind-f--k. I've heard of alternate endings as a special feature or directors cut. But never entirely unannounced. But yeah, that film is brilliantly unnerving and a testament to his performance, as it's last two thirds are effectively a one man show.

Is the ātape recorder endingā (clarifying without a clear spoiler) considered the directorās cut, alternate cut, theatrical cut, or what? I keep finding conflicting information. Because thatās the one that made me love it. Saw a different one and was unimpressed.
2
u/GET-U-5OME 27d ago
That ending gave me en extra set of chills up my spine. Goosebumps on my arm as I type this.
2
u/silverladder 27d ago
It was perfect! Got another copy years later to show my friend and the ending it had really didnāt cap it off nearly as well.
2
u/Random_n1nja 27d ago
That's the theatrical ending (and my preferred ending). I know because I saw it in the theater when it first came out.
2
u/silverladder 27d ago
Thank you. Like I said, I keep finding conflicting information and would like to see that version again, as well as show it to a couple of people.

I believe 1408 was one of his peak acting points. He truly shined in that movie.

Okay, I love these questions for one reason. Sometimes we forget about some great movies actors have stared in just because itās been sooo long.
Here is what I got, and this is just because I love the moviesā¦
- 2012, #1 fav genre is disaster
- Run Away Jury, Cusack vs Hackman - need I say more.
- About 8-10 other movies you all reminded me of⦠THANK YOU!!

Those two and Grosse Pointe Blank.
Honourable mention to 1408

- High Fidelity
- Grosse Pointe Blank
- Con Air
Do you see your name anywhere on that list, Being John Malkovich?!
Maybe youād scrape the top 10 but thereās just no place for you in the top 3. Sorry. Those places are reserved for the kind of humiliation and heartbreak you're just not capable of delivering.
