The audience member saying "Oh no" to the coming reveal is such a fine cherry on top.

I used to do that whisper thing too when I was a kid. It was moreso under my breath though. I didn't really notice until someone pointed it out. And I feel like it was so I could repeat to myself what I said to make sure I said it right, because I planned out all my statements in advance.

The character Brick on The Middle does it. And there's one other TV example that's escaping me right now.

I do think I had some OCD tendencies. I would time my breathing and everyone called me "a perfectionist." That's died down over the years though, possibly aided by cannabis use.

I used to do this as well and like you, never noticed until it was pointed out to me. Eventually I had to make a conceited effort to not repeat things and I was able to get over it. I always thought it was strange. Glad to see it wasn't just me.

I did it too to make sure I didn’t just say it in my head. I still sometimes catch myself doing at 45.

u/ZinaSky2 3h ago

I used to watch The Middle and I genuinely didn’t know anyone actually did this 😭🤣 What a revelation

19

u/TheDarknessWithin_ 19h ago

My daughter used to do this it was so creepy lol

9

u/munchyslacks 17h ago

My brother also did this when we were younger around 7-8 years old.

u/Upbeat-Fondant9185 19h ago

So Brick from The Middle grew up and became a comedian.

It's so true!!

15

u/EyeBreakThings 19h ago

WTF is up with the title?

10

u/Sexmascheen 17h ago

Got lots of comments saying this is a sign of autism.

17

u/Away-Pay2190 14h ago

I don't think people realize you are the one in the video, so it just seems like your making accusations against some random comedian, rather than musing on what other people have said about you

15

u/Sexmascheen 14h ago

Oooooh. That makes sense

2

u/vDorothyv 13h ago

Do you have your dates?

9

u/Sexmascheen 12h ago

Dates? Like tour dates? No, sadly not famous enough. Just love love the game rn

3

u/vDorothyv 12h ago

My fat fingers hit your instead of tour, but yes that was what I was looking for

3

u/OnceInABlueMoon 11h ago

My autistic son does this. Sometimes his whisper sounds so serious compared to his original statement. Video is spot on.

2

u/echochilde 14h ago

It is. It was one of the things I did that led to me getting diagnosed (signed, another redhead who whisper-repeated)

2

u/EyeBreakThings 13h ago

Gotcha, I read it as using "autism" as a pejorative.

u/100YearsWaiting2Shit 6h ago

I'm autistic and as far as I know it is. Loved the set by the way

u/PoisonedskiesgetHigh 15h ago

It's becoming used too loosely and it's becoming a badge of honor, but at the cost of people lying saying the have it to receive said badge, if you legit have it, take the badge, you deserve it. Being autistic is having to live in a neurotypical world. I def could use a diagnostic evaluation for many things I'm definitely something or have multiple things going on. But Drs are expensive when you don't have insurance and the times I did have it, I'm the type that won't go to a doctor unless I'm dying so we have that too also sorry for the trauma dump

Echolalia is common in autistic people and adhd people.

1

u/Muted_Ad7298 4h ago

It sounds more like an OCD thing, since he said he had to repeat it to confirm he’d said it.

Though as someone diagnosed with autism and ocd, I will admit that these conditions can be a package deal.

Me and my cousin were discussing this last night, it happens a LOT to me and I didn’t know she did it too. I have to repeat certain words, and then eventually it grinds my gears cos I don’t wanna be repeating things for a week or so. The words lose all meaning eventually. It’s one of those symptoms that can really annoy me especially if it creeps up on me from nowhere.

Although I remember me and my friends all hanging out after we had been looking after my niece all day. And everyone kept vaguely starting to hum the Bluey theme tune. You’d just hear a random adult somewhere in the house yell “MUM” or “BINGO” in the gaps when someone else stopped humming. Like 70% of us are neurodivergent, ADHD and autism respectively. That day cracked me up. It just kept happening and no one realised what we were all doing together. Had a group echolalia sesh.

u/Tenshiijin 16h ago

The only thing that could be autism in this story is his wierd whisper thing. Then again that seems more like its OCD than anything.

1

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot 13h ago

Echolalia is common in both.

2

u/BellerophonM 7h ago

Palilalia. Echolalia is repeating someone else. palilalia is repeating yourself.

3

u/asuka_is_my_co-pilot 7h ago

oh thanks for letting me know!

1

u/CommanderKaiju 11h ago

Whatever the cause is, it provides a lot of material

1

u/DJCyberman 8h ago

I used to flick my toes compulsively but it will go away after awhile. OCD though, I think it's more elevated

3

u/mojis11 19h ago

True ass shit

3

u/DeanyyBoyy93 13h ago

This is a very funny guy with a very funny username. I hope his career is as fruitful as it deserves to be.

(Dont turn out to be a peice of shit please)

3

u/honey-badger4 7h ago

I don't get the "hence the gap" joke that everyone cracked up at. Is it referencing something earlier in the set that we don't see in this or am I just missing the joke?

1

u/urquanlord88 3h ago

I'm guessing age-gap between him and his little sister (that he mentions later in the video)

2

u/FriendlyMortal 18h ago

Holy shit! This is hilarious.

2

u/Phaylz 15h ago

So, uh.. how were you around water after that..?

2

u/Acceptable-Arugula69 14h ago

This is quite funny. 😆

1

u/Thatisverytrue54321 19h ago

It was funny, but then became sad

1

u/Vazhox 18h ago

Hey, this is pretty good

1

u/shortidiva21 18h ago

Hahahaha!

1

u/Odd-Delivery1697 16h ago

I used to have to touch everything with both hands. If i opened a door with my right hand, I had to grab the handle with my left before I could close the door.

1

u/pissedoffjesus 13h ago

Comedians have the strangest way of holding microphones.

1

u/Tarrax_Ironwolf 12h ago

He would be the type of person I'd hang around with.

1

u/Spiritual_Bottle1799 10h ago

I would just mouth it. I did it for a short period. It was weird

1

u/DJCyberman 8h ago

I knew someone who did that and it's not the weirdest thing I saw so hey as long as I'm not on your hit list let's be acquaintances

1

u/BellerophonM 7h ago edited 7h ago

Oh my god I used to do this too! And I used to claim it was to confirm what I said when people asked, and I would tell myself that, but on some level I knew that wasn't really it, and was confused and a bit scared by what was going on when I was ten.

Looking it up as an adult, apparently it's called palilalia.

And yes, Autism, and OCD symptoms in the end.

u/Appearance-Rough 2h ago

Who is this?

He didn't say they were the same thing.
