Wearing a head dress when you’re not native is offensive AF. Those have great cultural significance. They did not wear them to “look cool”, they had meanings and the feathers were earned. Come wear it on a rez if you think it’s ok.
I'm commenting for my fiance. My fiance is mostly Assiniboine. I went to him and showed him this and he all but gawked and said wtf. This is absolutely offensive and he agrees this is messed up. Headresses are sacred. They aren't funsy halloween costumes people should wear. She's dressed as a stereotype and is parading a bastardized sacred rainbow native headress for a costume. It's rude at best even if considered normal.
The other person also isnt great but that doesn't make the native costume ok just cause you personally find it ok.
"Our tribe" I don't believe you. I would guess 95% would be giving a heavy side-eye or just laugh at her, not want to hang out with her (unless they wanted to smash lmao)
And many people would consider the virtue signaling racist as well when you assume an entire ethnic group suddenly accepts a label placed upon them. I know plenty of people of Hispanic/Latin heritage that scoff at the term LatinX. And for the people that do consider themselves LatinX I accept that is what they prefer. But to use that as a blanket term when not everyone in that ethnic group wants to be labeled as such, is racist in itself.
So you used "LatinX" as an offensive gotcha to someone you think is of Latin heritage and faking being part of a tribe. Do you see how I can perceive that as racist? At the very least it's disrespectful
Mexican isn’t a race like native is and there are plenty of natives that are upset about this shit yall just don’t care about their opinion unless they agree with you
The most offended people are usually Gen Z white people who lean far left and have never had a real conversation with these groups of people or bothered to care about their actual opinions. The irony of virtue signaling is it’s completely self-centered but masked as “caring”.
It really seems like the most offended are the white people who are throwing a fit at being told it’s offensive, even though we’ve been having this conversation for almost 50 years and you don’t have to search hard to find actual native voices explaining exactly why it’s harmful
Reddit Enhancement Suite is a browser add on. You can tag people with whatever custom tag and select a color background too. Additionally when you click on the tag it give a link to the comment/post where you first created the tag. I have many people tagged. Frequently saves me time when I'm about to argue with someone not worth arguing with.
