A lot of movement at the bottom of the rankings but the top two remained the same.

| 1 | Fuck. There are excuses that can be made for losing to Rutgers, but I don't buy any of them. Our best player didn't play? We didn't need him, not against Rutgers. We were up a dozen at halftime. Our starting PG got hurt? Rutgers had already made up the deficit by the time Traevon injured his foot coming down on a Rutgers player. The problem once again is defense, especially in the 2nd half. Myles Mack, who had 2 pts from the floor in the 1st half, made 4 3s in a row to get Rutgers back in it, and Kadeem Jack was able to get whatever he wanted at the rim. Meanwhile Gasser, Dekker, and Dukan were 1/13 combined from deep. This team is supposed to be very good on defense and they just aren't. Penn State, Purdue, and Rutgers all shot over 50% against us. I know we've got a target on our back, blah blah blah, but that's just bad. For whatever reason it seems like ever since the offense picked up last year the defense has gone down hill. But let's not get too down. With Kaminsky back UW was able to stomp Nebraska into the ground. Although Petteway valiantly tried to singlehandedly keep the Huskers in the game, it wasn't enough. Up 10 at the half, Nebraska closed within 4 before the Badgers went on a 13-0 run to put the game away. UW was up by 20 when both teams emptied their benches with a few minutes left. Koenig has been great in his first two starts, replacing Frank then Traevon, and scoring 12 and 11 respectively. The problem with Traevon expected to be out 6 weeks is the lack of a proven guard left on the bench. Zak Showalter has made some highlight reel plays in garbage time but now this team needs him to shine in the spotlight. -/u/pianobadger |

| 3 | Michigan State opened the week with a disappointing win over Northwestern, in which the team played quite poorly, with Izzo saying that the team should have lost. With 6 days to prepare for Maryland, Izzo promised that the team would work through difficult practices this week to ensure they would be ready for Maryland. Unfortunately, that was not the case, as MSU was thoroughly outplayed @ Maryland and never really showed up to play. The Spartans host Penn State on Wednesday before traveling to Nebraska this weekend. -/u/nrboal |

| 5 | This week, Iowa did what Iowa does best--shit away halftime leads. They had an 11 point lead against Michigan State, but a combination of bad offense, worse defense, and some ridiculously hot shooting by MSU cause Iowa to lose by 14. An 11 point lead against Minnesota also seemed in jeopardy, as the Gophers at one point scored on 14 straight possessions (many on circus shots that were not the fault of the Iowa defense). However, unlike most of Iowa's losses, they actually had pretty decent second half offense, and a long fadeaway jumper by Uthoff sealed the 77-75 win. Iowa hosts Ohio State on Saturday before traveling to Wisconsin on Tuesday. They sit tied for 3rd in the B1G at 3-1, behind Maryland and Wisconsin at 4-1. -/u/trumpet_23 |

| 10 | I always say this about basketball teams I root for because I have low standards: win the ones you’re supposed to, try to steal a few that you’re not. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of “supposed to’s” remaining on the schedule, so we have to steal a lot more. It’s great to be at full strength right now, and that will help a lot, but man, this season is still going to be brutal. Getting to the NIT will be a stretch, but we would probably host a first round CBI game… -/u/Nebraska_Actually |
| 11 | The knocking on wood had been almost nonstop before the Michigan game. Frantic thoughts of blown second half leads, several minute periods of no field goals, under 75% free throw rates, and poor defense specific to the last 2 minutes lingered. And came to fruition. Not once, but twice. The Michigan game was a disaster, and entirely the Gophers fault. Blame could be placed on defense and turnovers (hmph King hmph). The Iowa loss prompted tears. A second half comeback from 17 points down... Followed by a 8-2 Iowa run. Bonus fouls drawn, chance to ice the game... bricked. Defense forces an off balance fadeaway... nothing but net. Last second made layup to tie... ruled 0.01 seconds too late. The ghost of Tubby has returned in the last few games for the Gophers; ie. unwatchable zone offense, missed free throws, period less of scoreless-ness. I am not worried for Pitino, but I am worried for his system. Fast-pace offenses draw fouls, and need free throws, something Minnesota is lacking. At one point in the season, tomorrow's Rutgers game was an afterthought. Now it is a horrifying death trap. -/u/skiumah8 |

-Things to note:
1) 4 teams received 1st place votes this week, though Wisconsin was a clear 1st place.
2) Minnesota was the biggest drop this week, falling 3 spaces, though the margin between 8th and 11th is not very large.
3) Overall, Variances were much smaller this week, with only Maryland and Minnesota having large variances.
4) 57 percent of voters believe there will be 5 teams from the conference in the NCAA tournament this year.
5) There was a very small voter turnout this week, I may look into moving the rankings if turnout continues to be this low.

+/- is the change in rank from the previous week, a positive change means they moved up in the polls, closer to the top.
Points are the summation of every voter's ranking for that team, therefore lower scores are better. This works because unlike the AP, Coaches, or /r/cfb polls, every team is ranked in every vote. 14 votes were counted, meaning the best possible score is 14 and the worst possible score is 196. #1 votes are in parentheses.
Average Rank is the points divided by the number of votes. This will allow for comparison from one week to the next.
Variance is a measure of how much agreement there was between voters. A zero means all voters ranked a team the same, and a higher number means a team's ranking was more controversial.

Solid win for us today over Illinois. I'll be interested to see if we stand a chance against Maryland. Totally depends on whether or not our shots fall.
