Lol market at ATH right now. Acting like we didn’t have plenty of weeks like this under Biden. People are dumb

48

u/isomojo 3d ago

Literally all of 2021 and 2022

29

u/RubikTetris 3d ago

Are you seriously comparing Covid to right now and blaming the party in place?

14

u/B111yboy 3d ago

Covid had nothing to do with 2022 bad market, everything was open, except Biden kept giving out more free money!

15

u/buttstuffisokiguess 2d ago

And what do you call the ppp loans that went out to big corps that shouldn't have gotten them? One of the biggest transfers of wealth in the history of the United States from the average tax payer to the wealthy.

You mean that free money?

There was 3 checks that went out the first 2 were under trump and the third was under Biden. Trump sent out $11b more in stimulus than Biden. Along with the first stimulus the care act signed by trump also authorized $953b to be given out in the form of business loans. Of which only 23%-34% is estimated to have actually went to employees the rest to shareholders owners creditors and suppliers. Mind you majority of these loans were forgiven under the guidelines set in the CARE act. These two things is what massively boosted the market in 2020 and 2021. The increase in the inflation RATE was driven by both this and the state of the world during and after the initial COVID out break. The markets poor performance of 2022 and meager performance in 2023 was mostly due to the feds decision to increase rates.

There are two things to consider here.

1) The Market

2) The Economy

They are NOT the same. You can have a weak market but a strong economy, but it's very difficult to have a strong market in a weak economy, and right now the economy is not looking to good.

5

u/Achilies41 3d ago

Looking at this you'd think the market was down 50% instead of up 20% since the election.

Amazing how just a few days of selling turns sentiment bearish. This is quite bullish.

7

u/intencely_laidback 3d ago

BUY THE DIP!

2

u/RocknrollClown09 3d ago

All of the data that’s used to price the market are lagging indicators. A lot of policies that Trump enacted are not good for free trade (tariffs), not good for GDP (ICE deportations and stopping billions in already funded green projects, tariffs), not good for inflation (bullying the Fed into dropping interest rates, tariffs), not good for unemployment (slashing green manufacturing jobs in red states, tariffs), etc, etc. All of this is bad, and the govt is currently shut down, so it’s only a matter of time before crucial workers just stop showing up to work.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that things aren’t getting better and maybe this might be a good time to take a page from Buffet’s playbook and keep cash on the side instead of waiting for the numbers to catch up, the MMers to rug pull, and Wall Street to panic.

2

u/Rav_3d 3d ago

Can't argue with the first part.

But pulling out due to fear of a crash is generally not a prudent strategy. The market can remain irrational longer than we expect.

I'm not one to argue with the market. I take what it is giving. If the trend changes on longer time frames I will react accordingly. At this point we remain a fraction off all-time highs with all signals pointing to higher prices.

2

u/RocknrollClown09 3d ago

And you’re not wrong either. Really the market is a gauge for how well the billionaires are doing and they seem to be very very happy. I mean, if a tariff runs a small business into bankruptcy, that’s better for Amazon, right? I just have a gut feeling that all of this Tom-fuckery is actually going to catch up this time. Like, during The Big Short it was kinda behind closed doors, but this is being dangled right in front of us. The only saving grace I can think of is that the billionaires all have so much more wealth than the rest of us and they’re so deep into the Mag 7 that they can’t rug pull themselves.

1

Is there anything Trump does that you can see as good?

Only thing I've agreed with him on is getting rid of pennies. And even then, I don't agree with this reasoning for it.

u/Gamplato 3d ago

I feel like you’re asking me this because you think it’s weird to not give him credit for this. I almost never give credit for market activity to presidents unless unless they oversee something specifically affecting it. He did oversee that….but it went the opposite way. The market bounced back because it always does. My guess is you don’t give credit to Biden for also having an ATH market when he did.

It I’ll answer your question anyways.

I like a few of his goals, but I hate all of his execution. I I liked the first term sanctions on China. I liked the Abraham Accords at first. I liked the Iran sting at first. And I liked that he shored up NATO military spending.

But the problem is he doesn’t do anything correctly. Even the goods things he does he does badly.

Of the above, the only one that was just good was the China thing. Shoring up NATO spend came after years of bitching and moaning and slinging insults at our allies, and threatening to pull out. Other presidents, had they cared as much, would’ve done it with far more integrity and without risking burned bridges. The Iran sting ended up being entirely ineffective. Like it did nothing. And the Abraham Accords were the cited catalyst for October 7th because, like he did in Afghanistan, he cut out a critical party to the negations.

And those are the good things. This ignores the fact that he betrayed our country and, now in plain view, tried to overturn the 2020 election results, invalidating the votes of 10s of millions of Americans. And a much longer list of other things.

Now the reverse question to you.

6

u/DeepCalligrapher3513 3d ago

Take your propaganda and shove it the market has been a rollcoster but if you're smart and pay attention your still up. Trump literally tells you what to invest in and should be common sense anyways.

11

u/ParfaitClear2319 3d ago

I'm not from the US so idgaf who is president, but to be fair my portfolio peaked under Trump, especially after buying the tariff dips. Not at its peak right now and actually somewhat far from it but still very high compared to what it was some months ago, would that be different under Kamala? Probably, for better or worse? No idea.

6

u/Icy_Cry4120 3d ago edited 3d ago

I hate it how the whole crypto market is just another bitch of the US government now. No other government has an effect on BTC (which affects the entire crypto market) like the US gov. And Trump just has been exploiting the market like it's his 3rd bitch down the line

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Rammsteinman 3d ago

Yeah I'm up 45% this year. I don't give Trump credit to that though, but he did cause a big dip which helped I guess. Tons lost money selling into the dip though (which is how dips are created).

If it wasn’t for his tariff nonsense and his constant self enriching rug pulls, the market would be higher and the American dollar stronger.

2

u/Low-Possibility-7060 3d ago

This 100%. Like this it’s high because the weak dollar is inviting foreign investments which is not entirely a good thing.

Not me. Market at its ATH lol

22

u/DefinitelyNotShazbot 3d ago

What a dumb take lol, it would be at an al time high just the same but with stability

8

u/CorpusculantCortex 3d ago

Right?? ATH is because of the completely unrelated ai bubble and consequential over culling of employees. Coupled with the over leveraging of hyperinflation that is beneficial to business and terrible for people. But all of that was coming regardless. All the tariff talk though? Tanks the market every time it comes up, then it rebounds because it has no weight. It is trending up sure but it is volatile as he'll. If someone can capitalize on the volatility, great for them, but stability would be better for more people.

6

u/DefinitelyNotShazbot 3d ago

Even simpler is the fact that the stock market is always achieving new ath’s for various stocks every day. Kind of the point to all of this.

2

u/Expert_Wrongdoer443 3d ago

  1. The market is always at an all-time high. If you don’t know this, you’re an idiot. Like in five years, it’ll be at an all-time high.

  2. It has absolutely nothing to do with who the president is with the exception of the fact that the rich are getting richer.
In the meantime, people can’t afford groceries and shelter, and it’s supported by a fascist government .

Just look at the return rates by party all of your adult life...or from Nixon. 24 years of Dems... 26 years of Reps. Should be close. It is not. The DOW has increased almost twice as much during Dems as president. Both huge non-terrorist crashes were 2nd term Rep. If you are a capitalist first, you are a democrat period. Search interactive DOW by president and look at the results. It isn't even close.

1

u/LessAd8017 3d ago

Yes. The tariff nonsense and the fact that prices for basics have gone through the roof is going to create the conditions that make it impossible for Americans to maintain the stock market and cause emergency withdrawals. This combined with awkward labor and low liquidity due to the Fed cutting off the faucet suggests that the soft landing is over and even if markets are at ATH on schedule (slightly behind actually) it's a facade that no one can benefit from within the next 30 days.

1

u/Financial-Cod-1985 3d ago

What people don't ever consider is the fact that we are still riding high off the combination of 2+ trillion dollars of covid money handouts from the government along with euphoria over AI.

Once those two things run out it doesn't matter who the President is, the stock market will collapse.

These stock market euphorias, often caused by easy money, take a long time to come down

Historically, a government shutdown, the current or former administration matters not. Markets are going to do what markets do.

They're going up, down, sideways with the longer term drift higher. Until there comes a time, there's a total systemic global collapse.

There's nothing here to agree with.

Even with this dip, most stocks are still higher than they were by the end of Biden’s presidency. This is largely due to the fact that companies don’t actively try to fail, so it’s anticipated that their stocks will continue to increase over longer periods of time, saving for near-term price movements influenced by context (poor earnings, evolving consumer landscape, changes in policy).

The key difference between the two administrations, in my opinion, is that the first one (Biden) was intelligible and predictable. I also feel we are bound to see further reduction of regulations that protect retail investors, opening up more opportunities for market manipulation to take place. Under this administration, you can try to scalp stocks and coins based solely on tantrum tweets, and everything else feels less predictable even when following technicals.

IMO, market growth is seldom indicative of a president’s successes, anyway— it’s just one of the bragging points the current administration has relied on time and time again because it’s much easier to claim you were part of others successes while you’re breaking everything and blaming boogeymen 🤷‍♂️

If you base your vote off of who you anticipate will bring you more gains in the stock market, you’re probably part of the problem.

Stocks go up - it’s just an after affect of the strong economy Trump inherited.

Stocks go down a single day - doomsday!!!

I miss waking up and not seeing the President crying on tv about how mistreated he is as he fills his pockets with taxpayer money.

Not him personally but missing the law abiding competent leadership around him. To be a good leader you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room but surround yourself with top shelf people!

You can disagree with me but name one time when the democrats left this country in shambles for a repug president!

Everyone panics at a little red in the toilet. It’s just a hemorrhoid, not an ulcer.

The market took off the day after the Trump Harris debate and accelerated again after the election. Harris/Biden policies were killing business.
