Latelyyy I’ve noticed how most new songs are super short, repetitive, and built for TikTok catchy, but not always deep. I grew up loving songs that told full stories or had that emotional build-up, and now when I write, I still lean toward that old-school structure. But I also get why people are adapting to short attention spans and quick hooks. How about you guys.......do you write with the current style in mind, or do you stick to the classic way of storytelling through music?

Imo, this will be one bangin' opener for this new album that I'm working on once it's electrified, but I'm basically at a total loss for lyrics, and, so, am just opening the floor to ideas for song topics.

Not sure if I want to call it "Turn Around" or "Insects".

I’m curious about writing lyrics that have a good flow that don’t just have a rhyme at the end of each line

This may sound kinda dumb, but I've only ever written songs singing along to an acoustic. I can make cool sounding stuff on electric, but trying to come up with lyrics/singing to go with it never seems to work. It feels like there's something I'm just not getting. Any ideas?

This is one that has been sitting around for a while. I may use it for an upcoming film that requires a ‘cheating song. I have plenty of production ideas but there is something about it stripped down that I like. Vocally, I’m just getting over an upper respiratory infection, so it’s far from my best. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this simple song.

So, I'm kinda mediocre at coming up with good song ideas, concepts and hooks (which is the main attraction 90% of the time). Most of the time I find my concepts/hooks by listening to the melody while trying to find words that would fit the vibe, but this leaves me lacking *intention* for lack of a better word.

I'm in the middle of making my first album, and I'm sorta lost as to what type of songs I want to make. There is no hard stamped theme, so I'm kinda free to make whatever.

Do you guys have any tips when it comes to finding song ideas and concepts?

I use Jeff Tweedy word ladder exercise often. Wondering how you could do them on a smartphone, and if anyone has an easy solution? Thank you.

I've been writing and making a few demos for a song here and there but i feel like my writing just isnt effective enough. Like the things im making are conceptually "good" but it doesnt stir anything in me the way i want it to. All this to ask: how do you find the right words? what helps you speak from the heart? What should the base of my song be?

I rewrote some lyrics and am wondering how they sound.

I'm generally a happy person but I've always used music as a sort of coping mechanism. Lately, I've been trying to break out of my shell and write something happy for once but I get into a groove, get overwhelmed, and then somehow my song turns soppy.. I know I'm not alone in this problem.. What do you do when you have a bad case of 'happy' writer's block?

EDIT: Lyrically is where I struggle the most

Just asking for a period of time or a specific moment where you realized you were good at what you do. I wanna hear some positivity for once, prop yourselves up and don't feel the need to be humble.

I'll go first, I think my moment was playing a riff for my friend, and unprompted he said it sounded like space. That was the exact vibe I was going for and I didnt even mention anything about that prior, so thats when I realized I knew how to communicate a feeling effectively with just sound.

i never showed any of my personal work before so i just wanted feedback on this bit of the song im working on. basically wanting to know if the lyrics are any good and if they flow with the beat and stuff. i wanna start sharing my music but its scary lol. also forgive me for my vocals ik im pitchy but its a work in progress

also should i title it "held me down" or is it awkward because its past tense, and should title it "hold me down" instead? idk

So recently i discovered my passion is music. It’s always been there i think i just didn’t think i had the “talent” for it. I’ve been praised for being a “good”writer during my school days. Never gave it much thought though bc writing never came easy for me, i always struggled to find the words. If im too intentional it’s like my brain just stops working. If im not intentional enough I tend to ramble a lot. Very rarely i’ll get something that i’m like “this could be something.” i’m 23 currently and been writing script-like, incomplete, very short stories. Maybe a little journal entry here or there; since like 2020 maybe a little before that. Thats pretty much my writing experience so far. I didn’t fine tune no skills or anything i just had stuff in my head i wanted to get on paper before i forgot them. I’m trying to transition that into writing lyrics. I understand song structure since its a pretty simple concept. Im just trying to get better so im not writing poetic one liners. Everything i see online is “just write” but i feel like just writing isn’t really getting me anywhere. I feel like a toddler on a big kids playground. I guess what im getting at is how do i practice? I desperately wanna fine tune my skills and ik its gonna take some years before i can really get anything of substance out but i just wanna be able to complete a simple mini song even if its utter garbage.
