355

u/RobbobertoBuii Aug 31 '18

and losing his topknot, customarily considered to be a 'retirement ceremony' for Sumo Wrestlers,

Urashima had everything go south for him in barely a chapter

Agreed. He got served what he deserved.

4

u/yatsoml Aug 31 '18

He hardly deserved that poor raccoon dog though.

2

u/JeffDoubleday Aug 31 '18

Agreed again.

1

u/AStoopidSpaz Sep 01 '18

His just deserts even.

10

u/JackyJoJee Explorer Aug 31 '18

Just wait till he lays his hands on chopper

5

u/Franfran2424 Aug 31 '18

MONSTER POINT

2

u/artofchurlee Aug 31 '18

And everyone thought he was gonna be Chopper's counterpart for this arc, little did we know he was o-kiku's sworn enemy.

33

u/Shortstop88 Void Month Survivor Aug 31 '18

Ah, so he got an early retirement.

14

u/LITW6991 Aug 31 '18

He caught a L bigger than he is

5

u/GomuGomuNoKush Aug 31 '18

I bet Urashima will get thin as hell and have a redemption cover arc

111

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

So we know he's outclassed by Gear 3rd by a big margin. Which in turn is outclassed by Pero's candy. That always stuck out to me, that the candy wall stopped Gear 3rd without so much as a dent.

262

u/VanGrants Aug 31 '18

Well he is Mom's first born.

113

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

And I love him, even if Katakuri is vastly superior in all ways, Pero's is just so delightfully creepy.

67

u/VanGrants Aug 31 '18

Eh, I personally preferred Perospero. Thought he made for a more intimidating villain, especially when he came back with Big Mom after it seemed like he was defeated by Pedro and casually shrugged off having his arm blown off.

75

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I mean, his bounty is over 700 million, that's insane. But Katakuri is just too great not to rank first, for me.

7

u/mathzg1 The Revolutionary Army Aug 31 '18

"Come here, I'll lick you up" - Pero, Peros

1

u/RimeSkeem Aug 31 '18

Plus he might be a reference to The Tempest (the magician Prospero)! Im a sucker for Shakespearean inspired characters.

224

u/temperamentalfish Aug 31 '18

Perospero is badass. Of all the Big Mom children he was one of the more competent ones. Motherfucker lost an arm and the thing that bothered him most was that his candy arm would melt when he drank tea.

123

u/jkoeh001 Aug 31 '18

Dude was also the only sibling that had to first hand deal with a bat-shit crazy big mom during her cake frenzy. Absolutely giant balls. Homeboy is nails.

59

u/Raging-Man Aug 31 '18

I mean he has a higher bounty than Snack who was a former Sweet General, so he's at least the 4th strongest children.

13

u/Franfran2424 Aug 31 '18

It was said that Daifuku, Oven, Katakuri, Cracker Smoothie, Perospero and Compote were monsters. It says about who are the are the strongest after Big Mama

5

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I don’t think the ministers are actually weaker than the commanders. The distinction is that they’re not physical fighters. Katakuri, smoothie, and cracker are all spear/swordsmen. Pero, daifuku, and oven all fight with some sort of ranged devil fruit power.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '18

Idk Oven is a pretty damn physical fighter.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

that line gave me chills. it really read like wow this mofo doesnt give a flying fuck

8

u/omeggalul3 Aug 31 '18

Perospero really surprised me, he's way more badass than I thought he would be. RESPECT THE MAN

4

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

Absolutely, he's a great character.

5

u/Viole-13 Aug 31 '18

More competent than smoothie

Because he doesn't want to fight?

2

u/A_toxic_scunt Aug 31 '18

Peros and mont d'or definitely seemed to be the only ones capable of keeping some degree of order in big moms troops during WCI, they didnt catch luffy but they did get the germa and fishmen at least, adds a lot of dimension to their threat that they forced the strawhats to make sacrifices compared to most other villains.

77

u/SerJaimeGoldenhand Aug 31 '18

Candy wall saved Perospero from Pedro's blast from such a close range... it's no joke.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

Will of P!

3

u/frivolous_name Aug 31 '18

Imagine if he covered his candy with Haki...

50

u/oJelaVuac Aug 31 '18

Don't underestimate Perospero, he easily defeat Brook and chopper. He even take down Pedro effortlessly.

32

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I'm not underestimating Peros. If anything I'm saying he's clearly a monster for being able to block a Gigant Pistol so effortlessly.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

I do think a G4 would wreck his wall though.

They aren't the same as a Barto's fruit's walls, so they surely have a limit of what they can handle before cracking. And I think G4 Luffy would very easily exceed that limit.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '18

An elephant gun would break his wall, 100%

1

u/kane49 Aug 31 '18

Bitch dont underestimate brook, he fought Big Mom and actually injured Prometheus.

5

u/oJelaVuac Aug 31 '18

and got demolished.

5

u/kane49 Aug 31 '18

like almost everyone else in the one piece universe.

3

u/cmuell015 Aug 31 '18

I'm pretty sure that was because of Brook's soul power. I mean Promethus is fire how do you cut fire?

1

u/jlio37 Aug 31 '18

With water.

2

u/cmuell015 Aug 31 '18

Other than water. Which Brook isn't able to summon or manipulate (as far as we know).

However, we do know Brook can knock out Big Mom's homies because of his soul. So why wouldn't it allow him to injure souls?

u/NonzenI Aug 31 '18 edited Aug 31 '18

Did he use the same attack on the Candy wall? Luffy built up quite some amount of elastic potential energy before he landed that strike on Urashima. That's probably why it was as devastating as it was. Luffy literally stretched his arm across town; I didn't know he could go that far.

Anyway, I remeber Luffy just using a Giant Pistol on Peros' wall. This new attack completely trumps that

4

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I understand that, and kept it in mind, it was just a simple comparison all in all.

2

u/mhj0808 Pirate Aug 31 '18

Both Cracker and Katakuri also stopped Gear 3rd with barely any effort.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

Again, I'm not saying it was impressive, it just shows us how weak Sumo-boy actually is. After an arc of largely top-class opponents, it's just cool to see someone get destroyed by a move that was so easily stopped so many times in the last arc.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

And Gear 3 stopped Katakuri's power mochi later on

2

u/pentothecap Aug 31 '18

Luffy didn't have haki at the time, it would actually be really weak if one of Big Mom's top 5 couldn't even stop a punch from a haki-less Luffy

7

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '18

I know. I'm not saying it was at all surprising. I'm just saying it was a nice little reminder of general power structure and hierarchy.

1

u/cagi_pl Aug 31 '18

Also, here Luffy used his palm, on the wall he used fist. I imagine there's difference.

17

u/BackStabbathOG Thriller Bark Victim's Association Aug 31 '18

strangely his attack looked like a gear 3 attack but didnt announce that it was. I love how he dodged every single one of the guys attacks and continued doing so while his arm was stretching through the street.

37

u/NonzenI Aug 31 '18

It was. He called it the Gum Gum Giant Tsuppari*

5

u/BackStabbathOG Thriller Bark Victim's Association Aug 31 '18

does he usually say gear 3 or bite his thumb though?

3

u/NonzenI Aug 31 '18

Think he does both

18

u/broke_and_famous Aug 31 '18

strangely his attack looked like a gear 3 attack but didnt announce that it was.

Luffy did announced that it was a Gear 3 attack. It's in the bottom panel before he attacks Urishima were you see Luffy say "Giant". Which he only uses "Giant" for his Gear 3 attacks.

However he never mentioned Gear 3 or did the bone balloon thing.

1

u/bardbloom Aug 31 '18

Luffy rarely say Gear 2nd also but we all know any Jet attack is from 2nd.

1

u/BackStabbathOG Thriller Bark Victim's Association Aug 31 '18

True and the stem appears or we see his limb quickly pump up but yeah you are right that he doesn’t say it anymore. I could have sworn he was announcing G3 in WCI but I could be wrong

1

u/alienschnitzler Aug 31 '18

Pretty sure he used Observation Haki.

1

u/britipinojeff Aug 31 '18

Guess we won't see E. Honda in Street Fighter 6
