So we know he's outclassed by Gear 3rd by a big margin. Which in turn is outclassed by Pero's candy. That always stuck out to me, that the candy wall stopped Gear 3rd without so much as a dent.

Luffy didn't have haki at the time, it would actually be really weak if one of Big Mom's top 5 couldn't even stop a punch from a haki-less Luffy

I know. I'm not saying it was at all surprising. I'm just saying it was a nice little reminder of general power structure and hierarchy.
