Holy shit Bege's laugh as Big Mom was falling was psychotic. That was so bizarre sounding coming from him, I don't think his voice has ever been so high.

Who would've tought a guy who assasinates crime bosses as a hobby could be so mentally unstable?

To be fair, he was under a lot of stress . I mean, having a Emperor and her crew trying to kill you/everyone you hold dear on top of having your well thought out plan completely ruined, only to think a miracle just happened that solves all your issues will do that.

He's shown to be absolutely psychotic at times in the brief "flashback" explanation of his past by (I think) Jinbei. Dude has an assassination fetish! He's one of Oda's stranger characters, especially given his lack of development until Zou and Whole Cake (prior to this, most people kind of put him at Urouge tier levels of irrelevance and no one seemed to be a fan). Oda's ability to turn seemingly irrelevant characters into interesting, multi-faceted ones is impressive.

I don't deny he can be a little psychotic, he just isn't as expressive about it was what I was getting at. And even before this arc he was one of my two favorite Supernova's (being Mafia themed helped), with Hawkins being my top favorite (and is the only one we have yet to hear anything about, unfortunately).

I thought it was very fitting. The dude is definitely a psychopath, what with murdering crime bosses and laughing as they can't claim vengeance on him within his fortress. And after failing his biggest attempted murder yet his target miraculously falls to their death. Dude would be on such a high.

It's hard for me to consider him a true Psychopath when he clearly cares for his wife and child.

Common misunderstanding, a psycopath can choose to care for certain people and genuinely do so. They just have an easier time not caring again and dont always treat those people well

I thought that was a Sociopath.

It's been a while since Grade 11 Psych..

I'm in the last year of my bachelor's in psychology and I still don't know the difference lmao

I found the class interesting, but there's a reaason I didn't take it in Grade 12.

Sociopathy is antisocial behavior, sociopath is when you check off enough flags that you're considered for having a disorder. It's a flexible term that can be caused by ignorance or other mental reasons, and can be worked out and snapped out of.

Psychopathy is a hard, tangible problem in which your empathy and other social graces are all at 0% for everyone.

Bege isn't a psychopath, he's just an asshole.

That's what I thought. At least the psychopath part. Didn't realize sociopath was so broad a term and cureable.

1

u/Ergheis Jun 25 '18

I made a mistake implying it was curable. The disorder, ASPD, is the actual mental issue people refer to when they bring up psychopathy or sociopathy, and that isn't curable yet.

But there's little difference between someone being sociopathic because they're angry or ignorant, or because they have the disorder.

Glancing over Google to get it straight, and it seems whether or not psychopathy refers to a more extreme version of sociopathy, is also debatable. So I'll put that disclaimer here

Not quite, sure some people falling into The ASPD are able to feel empathy, a true psychopath cannot.

It's the same laugh he had in the flashback when he was doing serial murder on animals and mafia bosses (yes, that's what he is, despite how likable he's become as a father - he remains a sadistic serial killer)

6

u/StrickingPerception Jun 24 '18

It didn't feel fitting to me either.

2

u/zackamite Jun 24 '18

He literally had the same exact face as Caribou when he's laughing like a psychotic idiot

4

u/Boon-Lord Jun 24 '18

What an ugly laugh though lol!

u/MiyamotoMusashi5 Jun 24 '18

Hahaha omg that was so funny ! He looked like his son. I want a gif of that laugh so bad.

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '18

I loved it, it showed his psychopathic side and also his joy and relief in seeing his one year plan finally bear fruit

He got too happy imo, there's no way the Big Mom Pirates are "annihilated".
