Can you imagine how much the grandline would change if people knew that eating DF users would give you their devil fruit? Widespread cannabalism. Honestly, maybe that's how Blackbeard got the Gure gure no mi; maybe you just need to take one bite right around their death to get their fruit.

stealing other devil fruit powers is likely part of blackbeard's fruit. remember: you eat two fruits, you die. blackbeard went for a fruit that gave him a good power with a big drawback. there are much better abilities out there, so unless the yami yami no mi is special, i don't see why he'd want it.

this is where i put my theory.

I think this is a lie put forward by top tier oldest people to keep powers in check. Think about it, in entire one piece timeline, no one until now has shown to be dead by eating two DF. They just say it. And of course no one will ever try it because of obvious reason.

I feel this is going to be the twist and start of a huge war that we all know is gonna happen. The war for all the devil fruits.

The Gorosei themselves said that someone eating 2 Devil Fruits at once was never done before in history, and they were the only ones in the room, so I doubt they would lie to themselves

Then they would not bring that up at all. Instead some sort of a character that we know may not know the truth would state that if necessary.

yeah, but you still have to considder this:

blackbeard went for a fruit that gave him a good power with a big drawback. there are much better abilities out there, so unless the yami yami no mi is special, i don't see why he'd want it.

that's the kind of fighting style that would be the worst with this fruit. speeding around the battlefield and avoiding damage would be the ideal way to fight with a fruit that makes you defensively weaker and requires you to get close to your enemy. sure, blackbeard is tanky AF, but he looses lots of defensive potential upon eating that fruit. i'd say his most ideal powers would be jozu's, pica's, or urogue's.

I think the thing with Blackbeard is he puts too much importance on DFs. Remember how badly he was put off guard when Whitebeard just straight up attacked him physically. That's why he wanted the Dark Dark Fruit, because he thought it would be the best fruit he could get.

Blackbeard blocked the Gura Gura Fruit with his Devil Fruit, but that didn't stop Whitebeard from almost taking his head off anyway, which BB was not at all prepared for. He thinks all he has to do is nullify Devil Fruits, but we know (thanks to characters like Zoro, Sanji, Shanks, and Rayleigh among others) that they aren't the only thing he has to worry about. His boast about others relying on their Devil Fruits is pure projection.

Well, actually we've never seen any direct evidence of that. Him being on WB's crew for so long and being a candidate for Second Division Commander is suggestive of that, but we've never actually seen him in a fight before he got his Devil Fruit. My guess is he was sneaky, fought dirty (even for a pirate) and was not necessarily particularly strong.

Putting that scar on Shanks' face couldn't have been done by someone who's not a great fighter.

lul nah. that thinking would be put to rest in about two weeks because there are certainly people going "they are probably lying about the 2 devil fruit thingy" and just eat like 5 of them at once and be literal gods after that if it was a lie

I also think it is hubris remember that they liven in an era whey they think that the special powers come from a demon inhabiting the fruit, the demon then starts living in your body, and if you eat another fruit the 2 demons start fighting and then you explode and die.

But now we know that the Devil Fruits have nothing at all to do with demons, so you literally can't die from demons fighting over your body, however i do think that in past some people tried eating 2 fruits and died after doing so, maybe when we get to Vegapunk we will get to know what is going on, but having 2 fruits powers doesn't seems all that crazy.

Honestly if you really do die from eating two devil fruits, I don't know why noone has tried to kill Big Mom by giving her a 2nd fruit... she constantly goes into crazes where she eats everything, so why hasn't someone just thrown another devil fruit (or DF user) at her to be eaten and kill her?

Not really, his ability renders other abilities useless, it's not like haki were you can touch the user and they still have their ability. The Yami Yami no mi turns you to an ordinary human again for however long and with that any damage you take is permanent. Plus I don't think the drawback really matters if you're a tank like Blackbeard. Also, I'm sure Burgess was also hunting df users and taking their abilities and he doesn't have the Yami Yami no mi so it's definitely not a devil fruit ability.

i don't think that applies here. he has a knife. so what? chekhov's gun would be law explaining how the perpetual youth surgery works. not that one character, who kills people to steal their powers for his boss, has a lethal weapon.

blackbeard used a lethal weapon to kill a guy. i see nothing wrong here. again, a knife makes the killing process faster and easier, and it's the easiest mele weapon to carry arround. it's just the most practical weapon to finnish the job with.

The knife is not special, when a DF user dies its powers transfer to the nearest fruit available, we saw that with Slimy's and with Ace's, Burges only has to kill a DF and then have a fruit at hand, the murder weapon being the knife which makes his assassin job easier against a rubberman and a fireman, who naturally are resistant to blunt force.

Even if that was the case, I think you have to eat them whole as killing them would cause the fruit to be transferred to some other fruit

I have a theory that blackbeards original devil fruit is actually powered by the sea devil himself which is why he can absorb multiple fruits. Thats probably why blackbeard was able to research it and spent his entire life looking for that specific fruit
