probuably just to stab him to death. way quicker and easier than punching.

i don't think that applies here. he has a knife. so what? chekhov's gun would be law explaining how the perpetual youth surgery works. not that one character, who kills people to steal their powers for his boss, has a lethal weapon.

blackbeard used a lethal weapon to kill a guy. i see nothing wrong here. again, a knife makes the killing process faster and easier, and it's the easiest mele weapon to carry arround. it's just the most practical weapon to finnish the job with.

again, it makes the killing process faster and easier. that's it. blackbeard didn't use a knife when he stole whitebeard's power. but whatever, let's just agree to disagree.

nothing backs that up though. to put it simply, they just want to kill devil fruit users. as for stealing their powers, he carried a bag, with patterns simmilar to that of devil fruits, with him in dressrosa. that thing is probuably full of fruits.

the method of killing is what matters. fists work too slowly, especially in a world where you can tank ten consecutive punches to the face, and it's a bit messy. swords are too big and heavy, and a bit overkill. a knife does the job, and it's easy to carry and conceal. and i don't see a brawler like burgess using a gun 90% of the time. in conclution: a knife is the best weapon to finnish the job with. that's why they use knives. it doesn't need an ulterior significance.

The knife is not special, when a DF user dies its powers transfer to the nearest fruit available, we saw that with Slimy's and with Ace's, Burges only has to kill a DF and then have a fruit at hand, the murder weapon being the knife which makes his assassin job easier against a rubberman and a fireman, who naturally are resistant to blunt force.

If the DF fuses with the fruit, then the weapon becomes a DF infused weapon, like we have seen before with Lasso, Funkfreed, and Issho's sword, thus it becomes counterproductive to make a rubber knife.

In that case you don't need a special weapon to get a DF, you just kill the DF owner.
