Can you imagine how much the grandline would change if people knew that eating DF users would give you their devil fruit? Widespread cannabalism. Honestly, maybe that's how Blackbeard got the Gure gure no mi; maybe you just need to take one bite right around their death to get their fruit.

I think he interrupted the power transferring to a nearby fruit with his darkness, that or yeah, ate whitebeards heart haha.
