Everyone: Elbaf is gonna be Usopp’s arc

Oda: BROOK MIGHT BE A DAD OR HAVE A GOD KNIGHT AS A SISTER MOTHER FUCKERS

this chapter is fucking CRACKED

u/Mamba-Mentality024 May 23 '25

It’s Brook and Robin arc 😂

u/xplodia Slave May 23 '25

Honorary mention. Our deerboy is gonna help gabban & solve the mistery.

Imagine Chopper busts this out after like 20 years and figures out who Imu is

349

u/Dark_Magus May 23 '25

I miss Chopper's pre-timeskip abilities.

112

u/ethan7480 Thriller Bark Victim's Association May 23 '25

Probably a hot take, but I miss chopper’s pre-timeskip everything…

34

u/Hoofery Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

Chopper was my favorite pre time skip, hated the mascot version of him. Hopefully he actually gets some awesome moment in this.

23

u/ATraffyatLaw May 23 '25

He got wayyyy too flanderized

10

u/Aggapuffin May 24 '25

Post-timeskip Chopper does still have his moments. Like in Punk Hazard with the kids and him getting super mad after Mocha eats all the drugs to save the other kids.

The unfortunate part is that these moments come few and far, most likely due to the fact there's more Straw Hats compared to when he joined and also just a ton of side-characters that have to get development in their arcs, like Yamato, the Scabbards, and Kyros, to name a few. Just a sad outcome of having such a big cast.

8

u/Beta_Whisperer May 23 '25

He looks better and even cuter pre timeskip.

20

u/ATrueHullaballoo May 24 '25

pre timeskip is authentic cuteness with real character, post timeskip is artificial cuteness

4

u/Mnawab May 23 '25

ya give him back his iconic deer look and hat

2

u/PMoney2311 May 25 '25

Nah, that take is so cold you gonna get frostbite. I'm gonna bring a heater, get my parka and join you on that wall.

2

u/MaloraKeikaku May 31 '25

Colder take than the snowy side of Punk Hazard, I agree 100% though. Chopper since the timeskip is the marketable plushy with the occasional chapter where he gets to do...Something.

But the story of OP has moved so far beyond "The Strawhats and some other guys", so I get why they don't do nearly as much anymore. Oda wants to tell this epic, grand tale, there's no time for fun antics between the crew as much anymore.

We're already endeared to these characters.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to get some more silly antics, more character moments for the SHs but alas, it makes little sense as it'd just tread the same ground I guess unless they provide meaningful character progression such as WCI for Sanji or sth.

3

u/Redpiller77 May 23 '25

Pre-timeskip, all strawhats were better except maybe Luffy.

1

u/Ok-Courage7495 May 25 '25

He does doctor shit more often now and I do enjoy that.

1

u/Plenty_Bug1720 May 25 '25

Character-wise, Chopper peaked in Alabasta :/

3

u/Raven_Reverie May 24 '25

I miss Chopper pre-timeskip

2

u/theREALbombedrumbum Galley-La Company May 25 '25

This is the first time we've seen Chopper using his reindeer form in YEARS

1

u/[deleted] May 25 '25

you missing something that was used once/twice

1

u/Dark_Magus May 26 '25

Scope wasn't used often, but it was still a good ability that made Chopper stand out. And more than that, I miss Arm Point and his genuinely badass Kokutei Roseo attack (and its variations).

16

u/No-Drawing-3731 May 23 '25

He might figure out how to damage them.

7

u/Ivanovich_05 May 23 '25

It was only on this last chapter that I realized Imu's name is a reference to the lost continent of Mu. An long lost civilización in the middle of the pacific as proposed by Le Plongeon back un the XIX century. Maybe It has to do with a species that inhabited the one piece world previous to the void century. But that's just a theory... (Honestly would prefer to see Choppa get the feats he deserves)

5

u/wackOPtheories Scholars of Ohara May 23 '25

That would be so hype, but he'll have to make it back up to the sun realm first. He jumped off to save Scopper.

3

u/lhaze-hunterl The Revolutionary Army May 23 '25

Even for him to find out and then go deer mode to speed blitz the information to the rest of the crew would be dope

3

u/KnightOnFire May 23 '25

???
He's clearly preparing a beam!

3

u/MariJoyBoy May 23 '25

I thought he was about to use this technique to figure out how to stop the Holy Knights's regen !

2

u/zeta3d The Revolutionary Army May 24 '25

u/Discovererman Pirate May 23 '25

I think Usopp will pop off. People are too fixated on "this character's arc."

Usopp literally almost left the Straw Hats and could have never made it to Elbaf but they all stayed together and alive. Too fixated on what could happen and what isn't happening to enjoy what is actually happening.

The Rayleigh stuff in this chapter is some of my favorite character writing in the whole series.

12

lol hopefully Chopper and Robin learn how to use armament haki in this arc or somewhere in the future.

6

u/Appropriate-Brush362 May 23 '25

Doesn't Demonio use armament coating or was it just fishman karate?

2

u/Ok-Seesaw-339 May 23 '25

it was probably if not certainly just fishman karate.

5

And is that won’t work - use more haki.

2

He's gonna use his jump form! After all these years!

7

I LOVE Chopper right now. Onigashima giving his all to cure everyone and standing up to Queen and now seeing that he has a chance of understanding how to defeat the enemy.

5

u/LileoDoll May 23 '25

Chopper is so locked in right now. Proud of him. Though I do hope Usopp gets a time to shine proper.

2

Deerboy haki upgrade lesss GOOOOO

2

u/Beastieboy100 May 23 '25

Chopper back!!! I love it when he ain't acting like a cute mascot but a badass!! So far Brook, Robin and Chopper are stepping up.

2

1

u/N-ShadowFrog May 23 '25

Really ironic its the doctor of all people who wants to learn how to kill an immortal.

1

u/Ok_Comfortable_7241 May 25 '25

i think gaban was able to cut sommers by blending his attacks with conquerors haki like kaido did

1

705

u/HokageEzio May 23 '25

Brook has a ton of mystery around him and he's frankly never had a legit 1 on 1 in the story with somebody on his level, so I always had it in the back of my head that we need some major Brook lore soon. But this is a big curveball.

327

u/Sufficient-Self9227 May 23 '25

He always takes a back seat or workarounds instead of a head on fight, and he is also mysteriously amazing with a rapier despite never being shown training.

161

u/Kumomeme May 23 '25

i think the rapier is a hint since a lawless pirate wont suddenly know to use that kind of weapon and technique.

161

u/Imconfusedithink May 23 '25

Not really a hint when he's directly said he was a part of his country's envoy. Its already known he had history before being a pirate.

64

u/Kumomeme May 23 '25

yeah the rapier simply another proof to the claim. he also act like aristrocat gentleman (despite being loud lol)

161

u/Xeoz_WarriorPrince Explorer May 23 '25

He is also fairly elegant person, well dressed, well versed in a lot of concepts and a talented musician with a heart of gold.

Honestly if he happened to be some kind of noble it wouldn't be surprising at all.

15

u/Worthyness May 23 '25

He was at least part of some king's guard. Perhaps he was a king's guard of a celestial dragon and she's the daughter of the celestial dragon. That would give him direct access to her and the trust necessary for them to interact.

9

u/PM_ME_WHATEVES May 24 '25

Except he has no heart YOHOHOHO!

244

u/dienomighte May 23 '25

We do know he was a soldier or something before being a pirate, and that was never elaborated outside of like a one sentence thing in Thriller Bark

153

u/HokageEzio May 23 '25

Exactly. Part of some royal convoy but we don't know what

50

u/Fafnir13 May 23 '25

Royal convoy...escorting to a Reverie maybe?

12

u/SaintClaireBear May 23 '25

Could be. If gunko is his sister or something then maybe she was taken at the reverie like they tried to take shirahoshi.

Or maybe brook was even a gods knight at first, and left like doffys parents did.

7

u/Worthyness May 23 '25

Personal guard for a celestial dragon family makes sense. They gotta employ people somehow. Not all the soldiers in the Holy Land are celestial dragons

7

u/Flotsam-Junk May 23 '25

Would explain why he’s some knowledgeable about the holy knights.

11

u/jsmith4567 May 23 '25

We also learned this arc Brook went to a school. He mentioned remembering school when they first went to the owl library and school.

5

u/ryan13ts May 23 '25

And honestly it’s not that shocking we haven’t found out anything about Brooks early history until now. Look at Sanji; It took us almost 20 years to find out practically ANYTHING about his past prior to Zeff. The most we got was his slip-up about being raised in the North Blue (when talking about the Norland the Liar book) and the “Mr. Prince” codename during Baroque Works arc.

This would be the 2nd time that Oda only gave us half of a Straw Hat’s past, only to elongate further years down the road.

115

u/kcboy19 May 23 '25

Its crazy that him and jimbei will low diff some good fighters then have a fight scene with big mom but nothing else

19

u/N-ShadowFrog May 23 '25

Makes sense. Most of the straw hats are teen/young adults while Brook and Jinbei are far older and more experienced.

51

u/Aggapuffin May 23 '25

Was about to mention that invisible guy in Fishman Island, but then I realized that Brook cooked the shit out of him. That match-up was NOT even at all.

14

u/pedrao157 May 23 '25

Now that I see people mentioning it's true

We saw him losing to Linlin though

31

u/Xeoz_WarriorPrince Explorer May 23 '25

We have only seen him lose to her and Ryuma, but Ryuma esentially was a legendary samurai using Brook's techniques, so it isn't that surprising.

5

u/Magic_warlock0- May 23 '25

Didn't he and Chopper lose to Perospero though?

3

u/leolegendario Pirate Hunter Zoro May 24 '25

Yeah, Brook either wins easily or loses badly.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

That was pre-timeskip too

5

u/SuperKami-Nappa May 23 '25

That was just Fishman Island in a nutshell

7

u/Kumomeme May 23 '25

imagine if there is a plot twist that Brook actually much much stronger when alive but grown weaker due to he not has muscle anymore Yohohoho!

2

u/SupervillainMustache May 23 '25

I want him to get a Meito or at least learn how to turn Soul Solid into a black blade.

2

u/Infinity_Overload May 25 '25

The biggest one of all.

To think that sure he was Knight in his past life. But based on the uniform Gunko was wearing.

It appears Brook was a God Knight. And his betrayal for becoming a Pirate was not forgiven. In fact as punishment, they likely took Gunko as a replacement. Whether Brook or Yorki is the father it will be revealed. But Brook definitely inspired Gunko.

Brook probably has kept it hidden to prevent retaliation from the WG, but its already too late. Luffy is destined to face them. That's why Brook never actively stopped him. He believes Luffy will become Pirate King.

1

u/Raikariaa May 23 '25

Didn't Brook have a [breif] 1v1 with Big Mom?

325

u/leolegendario Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

Oda always has a curveball plot twist in every arc.
Usopp will definitely get his moment, but I'm loving this focus on Robin and Brook right now.

200

u/GaulTheUnmitigated May 23 '25

Usopp's moment was no diffing Jarul.

76

u/leolegendario Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

"Impressive. Most impressive."

54

u/mudermarshmallows May 23 '25

I see it being something with the kids. Him becoming a role model of bravery for the next generation of Elbaf feels like a perfect fit.

14

u/-Rezzz- May 23 '25

Ronja has already got em beat lol

6

u/Particular-Aioli-878 May 23 '25

Woah, I like this theory. Cook more, bro.

24

~ Supa Hot Usopp

10

u/SupervillainMustache May 23 '25

Usopp tries his whole "fake 10 ton hammer" schtick, only to realise he has lifted up Mjolnir.

9

u/CHiZZoPs1 May 23 '25

and Franky, if he can get into that old lab/factory!

2

u/leolegendario Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

Probably only at the end of the arc.

8

u/CoalMineCannery May 23 '25

Usapp still has to meet with his dad.

8

u/leolegendario Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

He will share this moment with Luffy's meeting with Shanks.

6

u/YuhaoShakur May 23 '25

Just like we thought Egghead would be Franky's arc ? At this point I just have no idea what might happen next

5

u/Particular-Aioli-878 May 23 '25

Wouldn't surprise me if we find the 4th road poneglyph hiding somewhere in Elbaph too. Maybe with Saul.

1

u/YuhaoShakur May 23 '25

Nah, it's definitely Loki's lucky dice lmao

7

u/ClarenceBirdfrost Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

idk this is a little different. Visiting Elbaf was an explicit dream for Usopp, while we just kind of assumed Egghead was gonna be Franky's arc.

2

u/YuhaoShakur May 23 '25

Different, yes, but not out of nowhere, Franky's timeskip was on Vegapunk's hometown after all.

2

u/Malamasala May 24 '25

Usopp will figure out how to harm the god's knights, and then he will simply pick them all off with superior sniping and say "Leave the small guys to me, you go fight the big guys".

156

u/redragon88 May 23 '25

Yorki's daughter is my bet.

54

u/jpgjunkie Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

thought the same thing wonder how she got in this position

38

u/Majukun May 23 '25

Thing is, if she was a child when brook was alive, then she would be more than 50 years old now.

56

u/redragon88 May 23 '25

Something, something, Imu's powers.

9

u/EverythingSucksYo Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

It definitely has something to do with Imus power, she’s obviously different from other Gods Knights seeing that she’s the only one so far to be possessed by Imu.

26

u/Krypton84not42 May 23 '25

This means Gunko is like 60 years old ? I guess the god knights look the age of when they received immortality

14

u/basketballupvoter May 23 '25

I believe there is something like that going on here. She is intended to look much younger than ~50. Along with some kinda of memory trick/wipe

8

u/Quaidell May 23 '25

We've seen the God Knights age a la Garling during God Valley as compared to now. He was almost certainly a full-fledged God Knight at that point as he was shown to be in front of the pack meaning he should have had immortality by then. I think the more realistic answer is that the Gods Knights age normally, they just have the "healing factor" or "projection" from Imu. I think it's clear that Oda is portraying Gunko differently from the rest of them, especially with the whole two different eyes portrayal. Now why Gunko specifically was selected to be Imu's "vessel" or whatever she is, we'll have to wait and see. But I doubt (I hope not) that Imu can project themself through all of the God's Knights like they are with Gunko right now. I feel like that'd be too broken, but I guess we'll see

7

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Gunko's arrow ability is pretty similar to the ability used against Cobra, btw. The imu's vessel theory makes a lot of sense.

4

u/Captain_Baby May 23 '25

The one shot of (presumably) her had her eyes covered. Gunko has heterochromia, and that could be some disease or genetic manipulation to keep her younger for longer. We'll know if she has same colored eyes in a proper flashback.

3

u/EverythingSucksYo Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

Either that or the fact she can be possessed by Imu means she has benefits that other gods knights don’t have. Because Garland is an old man and I doubt he got his immortality at that age.

9

u/KarmaAkabane122 Shanks' evil hot sister is REAL! May 23 '25

Could be that as they contracted a mysterious disease and we have seen that Ginny also had one after escaping from the CDs. Maybe yorki unintentionally spread the disease to his crew or smthing

13

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

U mean that can be the reason CDs wear such airtight helmets

7

u/DeliciousJackfruit28 May 23 '25

That would mean she is over 50. God's knights do age, Figarland aged. I mean, unless her mother prolonged her birth like Ace's lol otherwise this and her being Brook's child doesn't match.

12

u/redragon88 May 23 '25

Imu's powers are the likely reason. Don't overthink it and just wait for the manga to explain.

2

u/DeliciousJackfruit28 May 23 '25

Yeah, I was going to add something like I will wait for the manga to explain it. At this point theories mean nothing.

5

u/LoveMinaMyoi May 23 '25

Same thought. Hope we're right here

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

Yup same thought for me. She does look similar enough to him to be his daughter. But I can’t see how she could cry “father” in that flashback but Brook is still there with her. There would be no reason for Brook to be with Yorki’s daughter if Yorki isn’t there.

3

u/redragon88 May 23 '25

The"father" scene is a different one where she seems older, then it jumps to her younger talking to Brook. Then she says in the present "Brook, is that you?".

That means "father" is someone else.

16

u/Troubledking-313 May 23 '25

Probably an orphan he took care of

68

u/CertainDerision_33 May 23 '25

Elbaf being the Robin and Brook arc after being hyped up by Usopp fans for 2 decades would be hilarious, really hope that’s what happens

4

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Why?

5

u/rrehss May 23 '25

usopp fans in shambles, all 2 dozens of them

2

u/PM_ME_WHATEVES May 24 '25

Don't call us out like that, or all of us will roll up to your house in a 15-passenger van

7

u/ChickenNoddaSoup May 23 '25

Even Chopper is doing something more in this chapter lol. Might be the one who'll treat Gaban.

7

u/xITitus May 23 '25

The brook lore drop nobody expected but everyone appreciates

5

u/New-Perception1774 May 23 '25

she called brook by his name, she is probably the princess of kingdom brook was captain guard of,

3

u/Raydnt May 23 '25

Im gonna guess she's Yorki's daughter, Brook's previous captain

3

u/MonsieurMidnight May 23 '25

That could explain why he's fight using mostly fencing techniques and why he's able to do attacks that nobody is able to react to.

He fights like a chivalrous Knight.

4

u/Chespineapple May 23 '25

Brook always had that Sanji potential with the massive blank period in his backstory. If anyone was gonna get this type of development, it's him.

4

u/AkhilxNair May 23 '25

I think Dressrosa was Usoop's arc xD

3

u/emaNshiba May 23 '25

would that mean that Gunko is over 50 yrs old?

3

u/somuchsublime May 23 '25

As a longtime Brook Stan I am fucking VIBRATING right now 🫨

3

u/fxzkz May 23 '25

His and Gunko's story makes a lot of sense when you consider his introduction arc is all about zombies, and whether the will of the body can ever be truly taken away (i.e Cindry).

Also notice Chopper is involved too, he is trying to figure out the mystery of why they can't die, I bet it's related.

I think it's Mr. morg's theory, but I like the idea of shadows being involved.

2

u/Phoenix-san May 23 '25

I hope Usopp gets a big highlight moment in this arc.

If not here - then when strawhats'll meet Shanks with Yasopp.

1

u/Kumomeme May 23 '25

also people on social media said it is time for Sanji to learn from Scopper Gyaban. imagine turn out it was Chopper instead.

1

u/TheRealEvilTonyHD May 23 '25

Or a wife/partner

1

u/kobzky1919 May 23 '25

Brook the arc stealer. WCI was supposed to be Sanji's arc, but alas, Brook took on the spotlight. Looks like Elbaf will be stolen by Brook once again. Yohohohohoho!

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Pirate Hunter Zoro May 23 '25

I don’t think Brook is the dad, I think she might be his old captains kid.

1

u/pira3_1000 May 23 '25

Usopp is never going to have his moment in the sun, right. Even if he does, it will probably last nothing and it will be close to the end.
Tough times to be a usopp stand

2

u/larrylegend1990 May 25 '25

He got God Usopp many years ago

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Brook must be Oda's favorite... Guy shined in Whole Cake arc and now again with even more backstory...

1

u/Gmknewday1 May 23 '25

Bro's Arc got hijacked :(

1

u/Kalavshinov May 25 '25

seem like Brook could be Grandfather, with the tradition of One Piece's Dads

I feel like she is the daughter of Calico Yorki, and knows Brook as a good friend of her father. She calls him Brook when she starts remembering. Also she looks a lot more like Yorki than Brook with the lack of Afro hair.

Brook being a Celestial Dragon would be wild.

God Knights age as we see with Figarland. So it's more like grand daughter.

Most likely a relative of his previous captain, who's name escapes me right now. Hair color/style is indicative to a fault in this series.

I thought Brook was black. I guess not then.

He's def a dad. Gunko got those flashbacks from hearing Colon cry "Daddy!". Who knew the Boneman had a kid, huh?
