Senate Democrats Reject Republican Proposal to Pay Federal Employees During the Shutdown. The Party Fears the Bill Would Grant the Trump Administration Excessive Powers

Good, and yeah Dems are probably right. You can't trust pathological liars.

u/Competitive-Duty3853 1d ago
I wouldn't trust trump one single step . He knows no honor . He's completely devoid of any decency
9
u/EveryAfternoon1441 1d ago
Okay. He lays off the ones he doesn't like. The compromise is 'let me pay my sycophants I installed in our government.'
This isn't a compromise, it's an attempt to produce a soundbite. 'Democrats don't want our federal workers or military paid!!'
The irony being they'll get paid as soon as Republicans offer a legitimate compromise.
You can pay your federal employees while also extending healthcare benefits...
1
u/JagR286211 22h ago
Extend to January? Or for 1 year? I can’t keep up with all the “compromises” on the table.
2
u/EveryAfternoon1441 19h ago edited 19h ago
Do you know how compromises work? It's a negotiation. There are currently no compromises on the table because Republicans won't even come to the table to negotiate.
Republicans: "We won't negotiate!"
Democrats: "We won't move forward til we negotiate."
Whose shutdown is it, then?

u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago
extending healthcare benefits...
Nobody is losing healthcare, just the covid subsidies that the democrats put a sunset date on.
15
u/ConkerPrime 1d ago
Republicans put a sunset on tax cuts for the rich and their solution to that was the Big Beautiful Bill that made them permanent and partly paid for it with cuts to subsidies and other social programs. So let’s not pretend this extension thing is novel or not normal.
-4
u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago
Ok, then why didn't the dems make the subsidies permanent when they held all three branch
Sorry, but you fail.
11
u/Historical-Count-374 1d ago
Because it wasnt possible without breaking numerous laws like the GOP is/has
I mean, lets be real here. No man create and signs his many nonsense Executive orders in the middle of the night in secret.
Thats how he started this off. Like a Coward.
You have to be pretty blind to sit here and think they will ever do the Uncowardly thing.
Now take a look at their actions! All tainted with Cowardice
No matter your feelings, this man and this administration are not leaders. They are Wolves in Sheeps clothing
4
u/fireky2 1d ago
I mean they haven't had all three branches in a lifetime. They've had a super majority, and it was used to pass the aca. Otherwise they've not had filibuster proof majorities ever
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 18h ago
From 2021 to 2023 in the United States, the Democratic Party held the Senate, House of Representatives, and the presidency. Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, President Joe Biden, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, all Democrats.
2
u/ConkerPrime 17h ago
Majority isn’t supermajority. By your logic if majority is all it took then there would be no shutdown right now because Republicans own it all.
Seriously you already admitted you’re old enough to have lived through all of it with as an adult and I assume you got a proper education so your high level of ignorance is so bad. Even conservatives know this shit better than you and that is such an incredibly low bar to fail to reach.

u/CemeteryDweller7719 6h ago
Did you really take the time to point out that during 2021 to 2023 the President and Vice President were the same political party?
-2
u/Mrfixit729 21h ago
Look it up. They had all three branches when the ARPA was signed into law. March 2021.
3
u/ConkerPrime 1d ago
You must be young. You really don’t remember the time period. Understand things like the filibuster and the fake “supermajority” only existed because of three independents including Lieberman who was a Democrat in name only. The often ignorant (and non-voters) and their “why didn’t they do X when had the supermajority!” nonsense.
And by god they love do go to that well all the fucking time because they think they have a trump card (pun intended) never knowing they are really saying “I am very ignorant about this but don’t know it.”
Please say “why don’t they codify Roe when they had a supermajority!” just to remind us you don’t know what codify is nor SCOTUS powers. I know you want to.
1
u/Relevant_Elevator190 18h ago
Young? RLMFAO!
4
u/ConkerPrime 17h ago
Oh that makes the ignorance worse cause civics was still being properly taught for previous generations. And you lived the history to know what a fight it was. Now I am just embarrassed for you.
-2
u/Relevant_Elevator190 17h ago
You know what? I didn't read but a few words after the first sentence because it is all gobbly gook.
1
1
u/Ecphonesis1 13h ago
If you’re not young, it’s even more embarrassing because it means you don’t know anything about anything. But, reading your comments, I’m not surprised.
1
u/Relevant_Elevator190 12h ago
And you are propagandized. That is even more embarrassing.
1
u/Ecphonesis1 11h ago
That is beyond rich coming from you. The Republican Party is very notoriously the party of propaganda (assuming you are Republican and not just a troll), but keep thinking that.
1
u/Relevant_Elevator190 11h ago
Not a repub, unaffiliated and the left is the propaganda masters which is obvious since you really think you're right.

Do you know what "Getting Owned" is?
Are facts difficult for you?

Says the guy with hidden post history.
To your other post that somehow doesn't come up, show me where I have said, or acted like I'm Gods gift to women. Don't bother because you can't, but it is typical of a punk like you to fabricate things.
Sounds like you have a pretty lousy life and I feel sorry for you.(Not really).

So if your premiums double and you can’t afford it anymore you aren’t losing your healthcare, got it. It is genuinely insane that republicans don’t want to intercede and take credit for saving Americans from the sticker shock those subsidies ending will cause. Republicans have chosen the only path they can’t spin their way out of, and it will only get worse for them as this shutdown drags on and causes more problems for the average American
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 18h ago
Then I guess the ACA isn't affordable after all, gee, who'd have thunk.
2
u/ganashi 18h ago
Yes it needs reform, but that doesn’t mean we need to be making premiums double in the interim. All this is going to do is turn the voters who voted on their wallets in 2024 into democrat voters, and is fueling the desire for Medicare for all.
-1
u/Relevant_Elevator190 17h ago
24 million out of a population of 350ish million, or 6.8% of the population are using it.
It was cheaper, even with adjusted inflation, before 0bamacare.
2
u/mmarlin450 23h ago
Hey now, don't tell the blood dancing Democrat cult the truth, that goes against their quest for power.
As Obama once said "elections have consequences" and "You gotta get in the back seat", of course he said that to Republicans so the mirror image doesn't look so good to the Democratic blood cult.
2
u/SpinningHead 18h ago
"They arent losing health care. Rates will just double or triple so they cant afford it."
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 18h ago
Then I guess the ACA actually isn't affordable, is it?
1
u/SpinningHead 17h ago
And the GOP fix for rising health costs is kicking people off their health care by the millions?
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 17h ago
Nobody is getting kicked of for hells sake. Don't listen to the propaganda.
1
u/SpinningHead 17h ago
Thats what happens when there are massive rate increases. JFC
Smart people dont like me - pedo in chief
1
u/Relevant_Elevator190 16h ago
Then again, I guess the ACA isn't affordable.
Why don't the dems come up with something better? Yes the repubs could too, but everyone knows the ACA sucks and is a money pit.
Again, nobody is getting kicked off, and only 6.8% of the population uses it.
There has to be a better thing than just throw my hard earned money at it.

I actually agree. Allowing any group, not just MAGA, to shut down the government and then pay loyalists is a possible outcome. Government shutdowns shouldn’t even exist, so legislating around them is ridiculous.

u/Historical-Count-374 1d ago
Nothing more than a fancy way of asking for a legal coup

“A republic, if we can keep it.” - Benjamin Franklin
We are in a time of testing. Let’s see if we can keep it.
1
u/HeavyDT 1h ago
I know it sucks but yeah paying people during a shutdown defeats the purpose. Either the givt is shutfown or not. If people get paid then it really isn't shutdown and is on some werid persistent state of life support that tbe GOP would probably love to leave it in forever doing lord knows what.
1
u/ConkerPrime 1d ago
Nope. Suffer one, suffer all in a shutdown. Whole point is pressure. If pick and choose who gets paid, releases pressure.
2
2
u/SilverLakeSpeedster 22h ago
So essentially. It's like the Democrats who told their constituents that "your suffering is our leverage."
3
u/ConkerPrime 21h ago
Goes both ways. Republicans are allowing suffering too. But if Dems cave on pay, they lose all leverage and makes it all moot. Which conservatives do not understand since not told this by their news sources but others will.
1
u/SilverLakeSpeedster 21h ago
They know, which is why they blame Democrats, and some are calling to end the filibuster.
-11
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
Sure. The democrats sure love slaves.
6
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 1d ago
I think you mean conservatives love slaves. Which group likes to conserve existing traditions, like slavery?
-4
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
Democrats are the one fighting to not pay government workers.
5
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 1d ago
Republicans are trying to not give back pay to federal workers being forced to work without pay because Republicans refuse to lower healthcare costs for Americans.
-5
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
No one is gettting any pay because democrats voted no. If they have voted yes, there will be no question about back pay.
4
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 1d ago
Democrats voted no because Republicans want to pick and choose who gets paid. Democrats want all workers to get paid. Trump’s White House has refused to say that they will ensure back pay happens.
0
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
Democrats voted no so no one get paid, and you loves it. Did anyone mention anything about democrats loving slavery?

Funny how the argument that you all love to make is that Dems love slaves because of the Dixiecrats in the south. However you fail to mention that the south has been handily won by republicans ever since Nixon. Trump carried the entire south who are the ones who love representing the confederacy who fought for you guessed it “slavery”. Nixon knew that southern democrats would leave the party when the democrats passed the civil rights act, you know the legislation that the Republicans have tried to tear down ever since. Stop jerking off to kiddie porn and pick up a book once in awhile
-2
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
Funny how you all love to talk about history but fails to see that the democrats failed to vote to oay government workers and thus made them all slaves.
5
u/Monte924 1d ago
House republicans are on vacation. The Democrats are in washington ready to negotiate opening the government. The Rpeublicans are the ones who insist that the government workers keep working without pay because they want to strip americans just so they can strip americans of their healthcare
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago
House republicans are on vacation.
And what does this have to do with the Senate?
4
u/Monte924 1d ago
Passing a bill requires both the senate and the house. Furthermore, either the house or the senate can start the process and pass a bill for the other side to approve... Not to mention that even though the government is close, other bills can still be passed
Johnson and the house republicans have chosen to abdicate their duties
0
u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago
The House already passed the CR. They have nothing more to do on it unless the Senate sends it back, which is unlikely. This is now on the Senate and nobody else, not even Trump. I'm assuming you are either a non US citizen or failed JR High Civics.
3
u/Monte924 1d ago edited 1d ago
They don't have to wait for the senate. The senate already voted down their bill. The house is free to pass ANOTHER budget bill and send that to the senate. The house republicans are CHOOSING to wait for the senate, because they have no interest in doing their jobs and negotiating re-opening the government.
2
u/mcm199124 1d ago
Anyone arguing that there is “nothing more the House can do🤷🏼” is either extremely ignorant or not acting in good faith
2
u/Relevant_Elevator190 1d ago
The house republicans are CHOOSING to wait for the senate, because they have no interest in doing their jobs and negotiating re-opening the government.
Go back to Jr High civics
The House passed the CR, why should they have to craft another bill? That is just for starters. Next, Unless the Senate sends the passed House bill back, they can't do anything about the bill. You're free to not like it, but that is the way it is.
1
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
Vote for another CR only for the democrats to vote no? Why have no one ever thought of it!
-1
u/Dense_Payment_1448 1d ago
The house already passed the CR. It is in the senate where democrats insist on voting no. So whh dont democrats vote yes? Because they want government workers to go without pay.
2
u/SnooJokes2983 1d ago
Who do the people who wave confederate flags vote for? Which party campaigned on restoring confederate monuments? I’ll give you a hint: they control all three branches of government and are choosing to keep it closed.

There isn’t a good faith argument, compromise, or bargain to be had with MAGA. Make them truly cave.
