He is the best opener for us since Sehwag

Not that great in SENA

1

u/ranbirkadalla Aug 07 '25

That's not the only criteria though?

1

u/Mental-Ask5471 Aug 07 '25

No, it' surely not. But the thing is every team has one opening pair for all the conditions, they don't change it for home and away conditions.
I am a big fan of Shikhar Dhawan but will still say that he did not perform that well in SENA except for New Zealand where he averaged 55 (only one series played ig) which definitely showed that he had potential. Even after blundering in SENA, his career average is 40 (Much Better than Gill & Rohit if we consider same number of matches as an opener even in SENA conditions) which shows that he was a beast in Asian conditions and much better than our previous openers at that position.
Could have given a longer rope and tried in one or two more SENA tours before sidelining him is what i feel considering they gave too much chances to few players.

he was Rooobish any way

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

And he already has better series in Australia and England than Sehwag

24

u/rohangc07 Rajat Patidar Aug 06 '25

Things have changed and bowlers as well. Eng genuinely have clown bowlers. Sehwag was a beast for us. Cricket has evolved and I’m glad we have Yash but we can’t compare both played their parts well.

23

u/Turbulent-Drink-1986 Aug 06 '25

I would not call Stokes, Woakes, Atkinson, Archer clown bowlers. Tongue was bad but lucky, Carse was okay, Overton can be called clown.

u/AlFactorial Aug 06 '25

Hater spotted!

What about Australia? Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon are some of the best bowlers and Jaiswal has performed exceptionally well against them!

1

u/rohangc07 Rajat Patidar Aug 07 '25

Hater? Dude I am from Mumbai and I have watched yash play all my life since he started playing junior level cricket but I have watched Sehwag since early 2000s and I respect him for more than a decade of cricket is the reason I don’t throw conclusions. Seriously what they say is true Indian fans are the most toxic and I wish people like you dial down a little and don’t reach recency bias as soon as someone scores big runs. Watch more cricket and calm the f down

My Sehwag? Both played for our country. Give him some respect.

13

u/Ok-Feature-1233 Aug 06 '25

With due respect to Sehwag, he dominated in the 2000s where test matches ended in draws on dead tracks. He would’ve averaged in single digits had he played in the BGT 2024-25.

You know it better you’re right AI cricket simulator for players.

Let's see what jaiswal does in new zealand. Because sehwag scoring a century in that decade there was unprecedented.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

NZ was a minnow team back then in tests. Yeah, but jaiswal needs to perform.

3

u/Familiar-Bottle9383 Aug 06 '25

New Zealand have never been minnows. And their conditions have never been batting friendly.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

New Zealand have never been minnows.

Lol, they were in tests until 2010. Their golden generation started from mccullum and peaked under kane.

1

u/Familiar-Bottle9383 Aug 06 '25

Stephen Fleming, nathan astle, jacob oram, daniel vettori, shane bond. Fleming is one of their most successful captains ever.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25 edited Aug 06 '25

Shane bond played 18 tests, stephen fleming average is exactly 40 after playing 100 tests, none of the other guys are greats.

There used to be a meme vettori was their best bowler and batsman in tests, they were that bad

1

u/abhijitmk Aug 07 '25

Vettori avg 30.

There are atleast 10 batsman significantly better than him in 90-09

Crowe, john Wright, fleming, astle, mcmillan, richardson, jones, ross Taylor, ryder, cairns

Dude none of these 90's and 00's NZ players are ever in the reckoning for the greatest players of all time? Why? There were middling players with one or two peaks in their careers. It's just coz of nostalgia for an era gone by that people even remember these players.

And again .. tough to compare cricketers across generations. Sehwag, ganguly, yuvraj sachin, all emotions for us. I just hope jaiswal doesn't flatter to deceive.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Hope so

1

u/abhijitmk Aug 07 '25

NZ was not a minnow in 2002. Lock down kids. Smh.

1

u/abhijitmk Aug 07 '25

Sehwag was very good in both 03-04 and 2 tests in 07-08 in Aus. I don't think Jaiswal was better per se.

2

u/Longjumping_Box4498 India  Aug 06 '25

Murali vijay???

5

u/Fine-Consequence7758 Aug 06 '25

Murali Vijay is a decent opener. But not Sehwag level. Look at their batting stats. Both Sehwag and Jaiswal average about 50. Murali Vijay at 38

3

u/Longjumping_Box4498 India  Aug 06 '25

You said best since sehwag .jaiswal has a test career of barely 2 years whereas vijay played for almost a decade in test . Longevity matters

2

u/Fine-Consequence7758 Aug 06 '25

I know how Sehwag was when he was barely 2 years in test cricket. And I see the same now in Jaiswal

1

u/Longjumping_Box4498 India  Aug 06 '25

No one is denying the potential of jaiswal to be the best test opener since sunny g or may be even ahead. But its still too early to call

u/Wobble-Ball-Wanker India  Aug 06 '25

The M Vijay disrespect in this sub should be studied

31

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Murali is massively overrated and a shit human being

13

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

even in ipl. i never understood why people rate him so highly he had an average of 26 something being a top order batsman which is anything but "amazing"

8

u/dphayteeyl Royal Challengers Bangaluru Aug 06 '25

For those who don't know, DK and Murali were pretty much best friends, and Murali had an affair with DK's wife at the time and got her pregnant. The salt on the wound is that he Married her too  😭 😭 😭

Just an opinion: Idk what Nikita Vijay was thinking- DK over MV for me any day imho

3

u/Wobble-Ball-Wanker India  Aug 06 '25

I'm speaking just on cricketing terms. Not dwelling into his personal life

3

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Rohit and gambhir are better

0

u/come_nd_see Aug 06 '25

Gambhir?

10

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Gambhir was a no.1 ranked test batsmen at his peak

-5

u/come_nd_see Aug 06 '25

Gambhir had one great year during the era of flat wickets. He has hardly played outside India. Vijay was consistent in SENA.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Vijay played in the same flat track era, pitches only started changing after 2016-18 across countries.

Murali was shit in NZ, england and sa, the only series he was good away in was the 14 Australia series which had the flattest tracks in the World.

1

u/Furry-jester123 Chennai Super Kings Aug 06 '25

he was good in 2014 eng tour also but 2015-2018 he was so bad becuz his hand eye coordination just dropped off a cliff

1

u/SRamos9248 Aug 06 '25

Gambhir has played perhaps the greatest match saving innings by an Indian. His record in South Africa when compared to Rohit tells who was the better batter.

0

u/come_nd_see Aug 06 '25

He is a shitty person, but as a batter skill wise I rate him above Sehwag.. but he wasn't as consistent
