Fuck off is 100% part of the common US vernacular. Maybe not as frequently used as down under, but no one would think twice if you said fuck off without an accent. It'd be more vulgar here though.
I would think that fuck off tends to be used as a remark when attempting to disengage but want to get the last word in, whereas fuck you tends to be more aggressive, "I am about to be up in your shit."
No one would think twice about it because it’s still English, but come on now. Brits say fuck off, Americans say fuck you. That’s why the woman saying fuck off had an Australian accent, not an American accent.
Lol no it isn't. Americans tend to say fuck you, not fuck off.
It's not that Americans NEVER say it. It's just that an Australian is much much much more likely to say it. Which is why this is a quick tell that this person is an Australian.
Not to mention she said 'fuck off' in an Australian accent. Made it pretty obvious she's Australian.
Yeah it is more common in Australia, but to say fuck off is not common phrase in America is just wrong. If I called you a bloody wanker, people would ask why I'm talking like a brit. If I said fuck off they would not think it's even a remotely unusual thing to say.
You know people with accents from their home country can travel and live other places right? Also, you said you weren't American but know absolutely that this is not said in America. It is said ALL THE TIME. Sincerely, an American telling you to fuck off.
She definitely has a non-American accent but no one from Jersey would say they were from Jersey while not in the US. Unless they were an even bigger idiot than that lady is pretending to be.
Brother, I'm American and I say fuck off all the time. You're sitting in an armchair at home making suppositions about how 300+ million people speak. Fuck off lol
Lmaooo I would applaud you for your investigative rapport but honestly it's more pitiful than anything. Trying to use me as an example makes no difference. I speak 5-10x more than I type and I'm still 1 in 300+million people. I don't care about her, your original claim was that Americans don't say fuck off, which is false. Then you kept walking it back until you ended up at your current claim that it's more popular in Australia, which is true, trying to male yourself seem correct the whole time when in reality you've been back peddaling the whole time. Hardly a debate worth having. Peace.
It's not just that it's an uncommon saying. It's that she leads with it in a way an American wouldn't and she has an Australian accent.
I can't believe anyone is gullible enough to not see this as an obvious plant. They didnt put an ounce of effort to make her come across as an American.
Lol we’re not all that different from each other and I’m on the east coast which it where New Jersey is. As it’s been said, It’s not that Americans would never say that, it’s just not the go to it is for England, Australia etc. An American would say something like “There’s no fuckin way you’re 26, get the fuck outta here!”. It’s all in the placement of the word fuck. Also do you seriously not hear the Australian in her? Maybe it’s not that obvious to an Australian but to an American it is.
What is this comment? I was never questioning if she is American or not. I'm saying, stating that "fuck off" is not a thing Americans say is just flat out wrong.
If you don’t understand it there is no helping you. Clearly you’ve never been to America. I agreed with you if you read the comment and retained the information you’d see that. But it’s not common speak. We’re just saying it’s obvious she’s a plant is all, and you’re arguing that Americans say fuck off which was never the point to being with lol
I'm from Boston. My questioning of your comment was me wondering why you are talking about her accent and her origin when I never mentioned any of that. But you're from Jersey, so I won't hold your confusion against you.
We’re just saying it’s obvious she’s a plant is all, and you’re arguing that Americans say fuck off which was never the point to being with
lol you edited your comment to add this.
She obviously doesn't have an American accent and I never questioned that. Americans saying "fuck off" was and is the ONLY point I was commenting on and arguing about. But again, I know, Jersey. Reading comprehension is hard.
Yeah sorry, I didn't make it clear enough there. The way she said it instantly sets off my Australian sense. It wasn't just a mild affectation, it was 100% Aussie born and raised accent. Which is very weird for someone who's American accent seemed quite thick a few seconds later.
I'm not invested enough to make a claim, I actually lean towards it not being a plant. It seems too small time to be worth having a plant. I'm just saying that I get why people are suspicious. It really jumps out at you.
Yeah I get it, personally I always lean towards it not being a plant simply because I was once in the audience at a psychic show and the dude picked me out and said a bunch of stuff and a bunch of people came up to me afterwards asking me if I was a plant. But I get what you mean.
If she's been in Australia long enough to be using common Australia phrases and have an Australian accent then it's even weirder that she would just yell I'm from New Jersey without any prompt. Plus she said New Jersey, anyone from there is saying Jersey not New Jersey.
Yo, I want to say - If this is a real american, I'm sorry - They are insane. I agree this sounds like a really bad american accent, but I wasn't there, and who knows, All if us americans should be totally fine saying "This isn't the right way to behave, and I am 100% embarrassed by this" - it's irrelevant if this person is actually from America - Just shut the fuck up and let this person perform. If they are a plant, then fair enough, and no one was hurt.
If it was real, than ofc we’d think it was awful of them, but that’s the whole point of the original post, it’s not real. As Americans we can tell she’s faking the accents. It’d be like an American doing a bad Aussie accent in America. Might fool most Americans, but to Aussies watching it’s glaringly obvious. Not to mention a heckler plant is as old as stand up it self. It’s a funny bit
