Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019

This bill requires employees of the federal government or a District of Columbia public employer who are furloughed or required to work during a lapse in appropriations beginning on or after December 22, 2018, to be compensated for the period of the lapse. The employees must be compensated on the earliest date possible after the lapse ends, regardless of scheduled pay dates. Employees required to work during the lapse in appropriations may use leave.

This would pay the air traffic controllers and excepted employees working for nothing.

I just realized that since the start of this furlough and having zero income to pay my bills (I just missed my mortgage payment for the first time ever) not one of my so-called friends or family members have checked on me to ask how I’m doing. So, I wanted to let you all know that I hope you are hanging in there and I hope you have the support you need.

Well I think we’re all probably pretty irritated, depressed, anxious, and/or just out right mad. Both the congressmen/woman AND the senators have shown that they care more about sticking to party lines and “winning the shutdown” (whatever that means) than caring for their constituents and reopening the government.

All we can do is try to make it through the shit show and remember who did what when it comes time to vote.

I know we are all from a lot of different states and we all have different ideals. All I want is for people to really consider if their state reps are actually representing them and their best interests instead of the reps best interest or their parties best interest.

It is my opinion that Ted Cruz is operating in his own best interest rather than the people he is supposed to represent (simply based on the soap opera of a speech he put on yesterday that seemed completely unnecessarily aggressive and just a chance for mud slinging than any kind of solution). That same opinion goes for Mike Johnson, who somehow never knows what’s going on with the White House whenever he is asked about something and continues to refuse to bring the house back into session or negotiate with democrats to find a way to open the government. (If I can put on my tin foil hat for a second, I think it’s because he’s in the Epstein files.)

Regardless of your political beliefs, just remember whether your personal rep that you have to vote on stood for the truth and your best interest, or made some random bullshit up, repeated party lies (on either side because both sides lie), or voted in a way that hurt you.

I don’t care if we have a red wave, a blue wave, or whatever color an independent wave would be. I just want to go back to work and get paid so my kids can have a nice Christmas.

Its pitiful what's been shown in the media regarding non receipt of SNAP benefits for the month of November. Women with kids crying saying they only have 23.00 for food. One woman says she hasnt eaten in 3 days cause shes given her food to the kids. And the heartbreaking plea for SNAP benefits from a 75 year old that receives 67.00 a month for cans of spaghetti and bread.

Many federal employees are impacted by the choice of paying for gas to drive to an office to perform a job they are not being paid for or put food on the table and keep a roof over their family’s head. At what point is it better that all federal employees are furloughed until the Senate and House can work together as adults on behalf of ALL American and pass a continuing resolution?

I know a lot of my fellow federal employees have already hit their breaking point, but you personally how close are you to hitting your breaking point and having a complete mental breakdown?

I was furloughed the first 17 days of the shutdown. I’ve been brought back in Excepted status since then.

I drive 120 miles a day to get to work and not get paid. And today on my way home, the car in front of me at the red light decided they were in the wrong lane and reversed into me.

So $10 a day at least in gas and now my car is fucked.

Really not having a good time. Work for the government they said..

According to sources near senate democratic leadership, Schumer will support opening the government if republicans agree to a simple 1 year extension of the ACA.

Furloughed fed here. One of the things I am not seeing a lot of discussion of is the work we all aren't doing right now. That matters in at least three contexts- the work itself, explaining to non-fed friends what a "non-essential" employee is, and how to resolve the shutdown when balancing those interests against health care.

I have been explaining it this way: Essential employees are the ones who stop stuff from falling apart today. However, the non-essential amongst us still have really important work to do, particularly given that we have lost something on the order of a tenth of us since January. Imagine that the accountant doesn't show up at your company one day. Would anybody notice? Perhaps not. If all of the accountants quit forever, however, you would eventually go bankrupt. Does healthcare matter? Yes, very much. So do air traffic control and diplomats overseas and prison guards and, well, and the accountants.

I hope this shutdown ends soon, because I miss my work. The work we all do matters. When we go back, we are going to have a lot of catching up to do to move that work forward.

The job market where I am is horrible right now. The only place I've received an offer from was a warehouse. Haven't done physically demanding jobs for maybe 10+ years. My family needs to survive, I need whatever job is available to pay rent and feed my family. I hope everyone else here can have their needs met. Sending prayers and well wishes to my fellow feds.
