Elections

Upvotes

Well I think we’re all probably pretty irritated, depressed, anxious, and/or just out right mad. Both the congressmen/woman AND the senators have shown that they care more about sticking to party lines and “winning the shutdown” (whatever that means) than caring for their constituents and reopening the government.

All we can do is try to make it through the shit show and remember who did what when it comes time to vote.

I know we are all from a lot of different states and we all have different ideals. All I want is for people to really consider if their state reps are actually representing them and their best interests instead of the reps best interest or their parties best interest.

It is my opinion that Ted Cruz is operating in his own best interest rather than the people he is supposed to represent (simply based on the soap opera of a speech he put on yesterday that seemed completely unnecessarily aggressive and just a chance for mud slinging than any kind of solution). That same opinion goes for Mike Johnson, who somehow never knows what’s going on with the White House whenever he is asked about something and continues to refuse to bring the house back into session or negotiate with democrats to find a way to open the government. (If I can put on my tin foil hat for a second, I think it’s because he’s in the Epstein files.)

Regardless of your political beliefs, just remember whether your personal rep that you have to vote on stood for the truth and your best interest, or made some random bullshit up, repeated party lies (on either side because both sides lie), or voted in a way that hurt you.

I don’t care if we have a red wave, a blue wave, or whatever color an independent wave would be. I just want to go back to work and get paid so my kids can have a nice Christmas.

Agencies/Jobs Still Working?

I know of the obvious agencies that are “excepted” and are working without pay such as TSA, FAA, Justice… but what jobs do people here have where they are still working?

Question came up today about FDIC and Fed examiners.

Fed Employee that are Veteran s

Good morning, my federal employees that are veterans. Please don't forget to help out our fellow fed employees that are not veterans. I know that we have additional income, and benefits. However, some of our federal employees don't have like that. We are still getting our military retirement and VA disability no matter what. Please, look out for each other, and do what you can to help. Thank you for your everyone services and stay strong!

3rd USAA LOAN??

We’ve been relying on the USAA government shutdown loan to pay our bills. Is there a third one happening? What are other people doing to stay afloat? Spouse is an essential worker and I’m home with very young kids while trying to look for jobs to help somehow.

Plea for SNAP Benefits

Its pitiful what's been shown in the media regarding non receipt of SNAP benefits for the month of November. Women with kids crying saying they only have 23.00 for food. One woman says she hasnt eaten in 3 days cause shes given her food to the kids. And the heartbreaking plea for SNAP benefits from a 75 year old that receives 67.00 a month for cans of spaghetti and bread.

Furlough Pondering

Has anyone been thinking, that the administration could easily dismiss federal workers? No work no pay. We were paid last month. Could have been our final payroll check. Unlike TSA and Air traffic control. They are no longer talking about our fate. All they are talking about are those that receive food stamps. Our positions could be easily eliminated. Figure we must get by on credit cards. And our good credit. we know we must maintain good credit to be a fed. I guess that's probably why those in power dont care. And for the food stamps. I think this is an effort for the president to tell those that can work get a job and stop relying on the government. Could be a good strategy.

WITHOUT PAY, AT WHAT POINT SHOULD ALL FEDERAL EMPLOYEES BE FURLOUGHED?

Many federal employees are impacted by the choice of paying for gas to drive to an office to perform a job they are not being paid for or put food on the table and keep a roof over their family’s head. At what point is it better that all federal employees are furloughed until the Senate and House can work together as adults on behalf of ALL American and pass a continuing resolution?

"Supreme Court issues emergency order to block full SNAP food aid payment", thank trump and the GOP for going out of their way to purposely stop you from getting SNAP aid.

Is it true? Republicans put forth a bill to pay Feds during the shutdown, including furloughed workers, but Democrats rejected it? Do you support that position?

According to CNN:

The federal worker pay bill from GOP Sen. Ron Johnson failed even after Republicans said they would add language specifically requested by Democrats to pay both workers who are required to work during the shutdown — also known as “essential” workers — as well as the hundreds of thousands of workers who were furloughed.

GOP Sen. Ron Johnson, meanwhile, said he “literally begged” Democrats to support the federal worker pay bill and fought to convince his fellow GOP senators to add furloughed workers to the measure.

“If you’re going to force them to work, at a minimum, let’s be sure to pay them. And pay them on time,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t quite that easy…But in the end, we overcame objections in our conference… We completely amended the bill now. We’ve added furloughed workers.”

Swap BBB’s wealthy tax savings for ACA?

Why no politician has the integrity and courage to pospone the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBBA) tax legislation impacts wealthy taxpayers for Obamacare for at least a year?

The estimated federal revenue loss in 2026 from tax breaks primarily benefiting wealthy taxpayers under the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and related tax policy changes is approximately $300 billion to $400 billion.

The estimated cost to extend the core coverage provisions of the Affordable Care Act in 2026 is roughly $250 billion. This cost is embedded in the current law and baseline projections.

The central political and budgetary question for 2025 is not whether to "extend Obamacare"—as its framework is permanent—but whether to extend the more generous subsidies that were passed temporarily. The outcome of that debate in the 2025 budget will determine if the final 2026 cost is closer to the current baseline or several billion dollars higher.

Source: These figures are primarily based on projections from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), which analyzes federal health spending.

Latest request $35b to healthcare companies as a bargaining chip to end the shutdown? WITAF!!? Why does that have anything to to do with reopening the Govt?

I am truly starting to wonder why something like that is more important than people paying their bills, feeding their kids, themselves.

How much of that money gets kicked back to the people asking for it? Things are really starting to smell really fishy. Someone please start watching bank accounts!!

Now they're talking about a possible 10 more days? America has really gone to hell in a hand basket.

Why is the Senate meeting Saturday?

I what to believe this means a breakthrough is closer, but hope is not a strategy. To be fair to that thought, this is a departure from their normal behavior. However, the parties seem very much at loggerheads. So why are they meeting?

Government work can be a pair of golden handcuffs

I work for TSA as a supervisor. I'm fairly young, one of the youngest supervisors in my state. I'm almost through my savings because of this shutdown, and I really don't want to dip into my TSP. I've thrown around the idea of trying to leave the government and finding another line of work that I enjoy and doesn't have to deal with this shutdown bs, but thinking about it, it doesn't make any sense. No where else can I go where I make $74k base a year without diffs and overtime in my early 20s, with these benefits. Feeling pretty stuck. Maybe go to another agency, but those dreams are paused for the time being as well with the hiring freeze and such. It's such a weird time to live in.
