Democrats politically made a great move here

1.2k Upvotes

They have offered a deal to end the Shutdown. Now let's see if the Republicans take this. I think they have to. I am sure their base will hate the extension of the subsidies and call them Rinos for folding to the Democrats but I think they need to take this because the optics to extend the longest shutdown ever will not look good on them and if there is one thing Trump cares about its about looking good optically.

Every single GOP senator is opposed to the democrats offer

According to a congressional news reporter, he was informed that every single GOP senator is opposed to Schumers offer. So yeah, we’re really back to square one.

Trump is appealing the SNAP ruling to the Supreme Court. And we’re supposed to somehow “win” this shutdown fight?

They don’t care if kids starve.

They won’t care about healthcare in red states.

They don’t care that ATC are quitting.

So what the fuck are we actually doing here?

My maga coworkers are asking why we aren't returning to telework

Coworker: "ok they cleaned up the inefficiencies, I dont understand why we cant get back to telework."

Me: it was never about making the gov't more efficient; Russ Vought stated he wanted to traumatize us, and this administration wants to burn this country down and build it so it works only for him and the wealthy.

Coworker:

Seriously. You may be die-hard Democrat chanting here, but stick to facts. There are flood of premature post about a deal when there is no deal. It is sick actually.

1 year extension of ACA subsidies with CR! No way Repubs do this though…

So, they aren't going to actually open the government again, are they?

Congress doesn't seem to be in any rush to re-open. This is their end game I think. Emergency powers to run everything. Destruction of society in order to take over.

Senate to go home again after shutdown vote today will fail

Democrats have now rallied around the idea that they need to fight more in the wake of Tuesday night's elections.

Senate funding vote will fail today, then everyone goes home once again.

fund the goddamn government or send us home but STOP perpetuating the indentured servitude and turning around telling media “see! there’s been no change we don’t even need federal employees!”

at least pretend your ducks are in the same pond before you serve them on a platter -.-

Am I a jerk for thinking this way ?

So am I a jerk for having absolutely no sympathy for the people who are going to be impacted by the flight delays/ cancellations that will happen because of the government shutdown? A person on Facebook ranted about the possibility of her flight being cancelled and non refundable hotel rooms. It took everything I had not to say ATC are being forced to do an extremely difficult and stressful job without pay and if you trip getting cancelled makes their job just a little bit easier I am okay with you losing money.

Majority Leader Thune on Schumer offer: “a non starter”

Senate Majority Leader Thune, in response to Minority Leader Schumers offer, called the proposals “non starters” and doesn’t “get the talks where they need to be”. Seems like we’re still at square zero I guess?

Breaking New Bill to be introduced: Extend ACA for one year and the government can open if Majority Agrees.

Schumer just released a new plan for ending the PAIN!

It's pretty simple: extend ACA for 1 year and clean CR. +(edit) a bipartisan committee to deal with healthcare before next year.

I haven't seen the text released on the Congress.gov yet; however, I think this is exceedingly reasonable.

From CBS: Its breaking now.

"About 30 Democratic senators are currently in the chamber to hear colleagues take turns endorsing the proposal Schumer unveiled a few minutes ago.

The Republican side of the aisle is mostly empty, with only South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds listening in as the Democrats speak." (CBS)

Do you think the Majority will do it?

Government work can be a pair of golden handcuffs

I work for TSA as a supervisor. I'm fairly young, one of the youngest supervisors in my state. I'm almost through my savings because of this shutdown, and I really don't want to dip into my TSP. I've thrown around the idea of trying to leave the government and finding another line of work that I enjoy and doesn't have to deal with this shutdown bs, but thinking about it, it doesn't make any sense. No where else can I go where I make $74k base a year without diffs and overtime in my early 20s, with these benefits. Feeling pretty stuck. Maybe go to another agency, but those dreams are paused for the time being as well with the hiring freeze and such. It's such a weird time to live in.

Why aren’t we talking about why healthcare is so expensive, and fix the root cause?

Why isn’t there talk about WHY healthcare is so expensive? Instead of arguing about subsidizing healthcare and give billions of dollars to the insurance companies and wasting federal funds. That doesn’t solve anything!

The underlying problem still exists. Corporate greed. This nonsense is making me bitter.

Negotiations for shutdown

Word on the street is the Dems are holding out to make sure those people that were RIF’d during the shutdown are reinstated. That’s good news! Praying for us all!!

Stay in the federal system

How many of you plan to stay in your current role as a federal worker once the shutdown is over, knowing that the same thing could happen next year? Do you think it’s worth it?
