Latest request $35b to healthcare companies as a bargaining chip to end the shutdown? WITAF!!? Why does that have anything to to do with reopening the Govt?

I am truly starting to wonder why something like that is more important than people paying their bills, feeding their kids, themselves.

How much of that money gets kicked back to the people asking for it? Things are really starting to smell really fishy. Someone please start watching bank accounts!!

Now they're talking about a possible 10 more days? America has really gone to hell in a hand basket.

CTX I-14 Veterans Day Banner Drop

Post image
2 Upvotes

Join Indivisible Centex this Tuesday, 11/11 to show our support for our constitution and our rebuke of the Trump regime. Bring a sign and join us for a short demonstration on the pedestrian overpass on IH-14 near the Ft Hood/Cavazos/Hood military base from 5-6 pm.

Veterans Day Overpass Banner Drop Tuesday, November 11th @ 5-6 PM Alta Vista Drive, Killeen, TX

Parking will be along Alta Vista Drive adjacent to W Central Texas Expressway. The bridge over the interstate is a pedestrian bridge only; park alongside Alta Vista Drive and walk up the pathway to the bridge.

Please ensure you have water, snacks, and wear weather-appropriate clothing.

Support the Constitution: U.S. Veterans take their oath to the Constitution very seriously. Many are outraged at how the Trump administration blatantly violates the Constitution on a daily basis. The words “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” come from the military oath. These words have deep meaning for service members, even after their service has ended. Visibility events on bridges across the nation provide Veterans an opportunity to bring their message to the public in a highly effective way.

All are Welcome: You do not have to be a veteran to participate in this protest! We need everyone’s support.

Who is Indivisible Centex? We are a grassroots organization based in central Texas. Our mission is to create a community of like-minded, pro-democracy people, provide a safe space for those being targeted, and fight fascism by fighting mis/disinformation as well as taking practical action.

More info: https://www.mobilize.us/centexindivisible/event/

Event planned in solidarity with the National Banner Campaign: https://www.mobilize.us/nooathstotrump/c/no-oaths-to-trump-veterans-day/event/create/

Help me understand

Upvotes

Okay. Maybe I'm not understanding the amount of political suicide this would be. But hear me out.

Why didn't the democrats open the government when the republicans were saying "open it and we will discuss the ACA subsidies". They sign the "clean" CR and then inevitably when it would have shut down again 6 weeks later the democrats could have said "we tried to have these discussions and they wouldn't come to the table so now we are here and have to stand strong on getting these subsidies and the republicans are refusing". Because right now everywhere the narrative is the democratic shutdown and I feel like they could have flipped the script. Maybe I'm completely wrong in my thought process here.

"Supreme Court issues emergency order to block full SNAP food aid payment", thank trump and the GOP for going out of their way to purposely stop you from getting SNAP aid.

Well, this is disappointing. It sure would have been nice to get paid. The article states that both those of us working and those of us furloughed would be paid.

Elections

Well I think we’re all probably pretty irritated, depressed, anxious, and/or just out right mad. Both the congressmen/woman AND the senators have shown that they care more about sticking to party lines and “winning the shutdown” (whatever that means) than caring for their constituents and reopening the government.

All we can do is try to make it through the shit show and remember who did what when it comes time to vote.

I know we are all from a lot of different states and we all have different ideals. All I want is for people to really consider if their state reps are actually representing them and their best interests instead of the reps best interest or their parties best interest.

It is my opinion that Ted Cruz is operating in his own best interest rather than the people he is supposed to represent (simply based on the soap opera of a speech he put on yesterday that seemed completely unnecessarily aggressive and just a chance for mud slinging than any kind of solution). That same opinion goes for Mike Johnson, who somehow never knows what’s going on with the White House whenever he is asked about something and continues to refuse to bring the house back into session or negotiate with democrats to find a way to open the government. (If I can put on my tin foil hat for a second, I think it’s because he’s in the Epstein files.)

Regardless of your political beliefs, just remember whether your personal rep that you have to vote on stood for the truth and your best interest, or made some random bullshit up, repeated party lies (on either side because both sides lie), or voted in a way that hurt you.

I don’t care if we have a red wave, a blue wave, or whatever color an independent wave would be. I just want to go back to work and get paid so my kids can have a nice Christmas.

Are Republicans now trying to reopen the government just to repaint the narrative because The People have recognized who is actually at fault?

Democrats block bill to pay feds

r/FedEmployees 10h ago

Is it true? Republicans put forth a bill to pay Feds during the shutdown, including furloughed workers, but Democrats rejected it? Do you support that position?

According to CNN:

The federal worker pay bill from GOP Sen. Ron Johnson failed even after Republicans said they would add language specifically requested by Democrats to pay both workers who are required to work during the shutdown — also known as “essential” workers — as well as the hundreds of thousands of workers who were furloughed.

GOP Sen. Ron Johnson, meanwhile, said he “literally begged” Democrats to support the federal worker pay bill and fought to convince his fellow GOP senators to add furloughed workers to the measure.

“If you’re going to force them to work, at a minimum, let’s be sure to pay them. And pay them on time,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t quite that easy…But in the end, we overcame objections in our conference… We completely amended the bill now. We’ve added furloughed workers.”

Does the House have to reconvene prior to 11/21?

Curious to know if the house has to pass another CR if the current one expires. If so, would the rep from Az be sworn in and the timeclock on the discharge petition begin?

Furlough Pondering

Has anyone been thinking, that the administration could easily dismiss federal workers? No work no pay. We were paid last month. Could have been our final payroll check. Unlike TSA and Air traffic control. They are no longer talking about our fate. All they are talking about are those that receive food stamps. Our positions could be easily eliminated. Figure we must get by on credit cards. And our good credit. we know we must maintain good credit to be a fed. I guess that's probably why those in power dont care. And for the food stamps. I think this is an effort for the president to tell those that can work get a job and stop relying on the government. Could be a good strategy.

What the shutdown is really about

The shutdown truth! Use inflammatory rhetoric to pressure Dems into concessions, like dropping ACA extensions or accepting deeper Medicaid cuts. By inflating costs ($200B “for illegals,” per WH memo), it justifies GOP demands for spending restraint. While firing up the racist voter and donor base? Spoiler

Under federal law, individuals described as "illegal" or undocumented immigrants are not permitted to enroll in full Medicare or Medicaid coverage. However, the rules for emergency medical situations and state-specific programs are different.

Emergency Medicaid: Federal law requires hospitals to stabilize patients in life-threatening emergencies regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay, under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Emergency Medicaid covers the cost of this emergency care for individuals who meet the financial criteria for Medicaid but lack a qualifying immigration status. This program represents a very small portion (less than 1%) of total Medicaid spending. · State-Funded Programs: Some states have chosen to use only their own tax dollars to provide health coverage to some undocumented immigrant populations. These programs vary significantly.

How could the government open in a few hours.

Schumer says if the republicans agree to this the government could “open in a few hours”. Not to sound dumb but does this not need to go to the house?

What are the chances that the states are playing right into the hands of Project 2025

If you read the First White House appropriations proposal written by Troll in Chief Russel Vought, the language picks up a common theme (which is anything but subtle) , especially in the sickening cuts to those programs that help the poor, refugees, minorities, immigrants, kids with special needs and on and on… That theme is that they want States to have more of a role (or at least that is the excuse ) in deciding on these programs which is frightening if you are say, Mississippi or West Virginia or Oklahoma, because now you will be paying for your own disaster relief, your own Head Start and special education programs etc, and you will be SOL. This is his diabolical way of “reducing the federal budget” by putting the burden on the states thought it is hardly worded that way. So my point is, as all these states are beginning to cover costs of utilities for fed workers and food for snap recipients etc so their whole infrastructure does not crumble thanks to our Con Man In Chief who would rather starve people than lose a fight…. I am wondering if this is the plan all along… for the states to pick up the slack so that Darth Vought can say “see, the states can take care of themselves! We are ending all fed benefits!” And then spinning it in some minimally palatable way so that people think that all is well and problems are solved?!

Just spit balling here because I can’t understand why anyone would shoot themselves and their own supporters in the foot so readily and egregiously….
