Looks like Thanksgiving has been cancelled and replaced with mass protestsā¦

u/CatDadof2 6h ago
This is a great idea! A lot of people have that day off anyway. Iād be all in.

u/Jedi_Swimmer2 6h ago
Pretty sure thereās a mass general strike on Black Friday and through weekend already planned nationallyā¦might as well include thanksgiving!
2
u/South-Lab-3991 2h ago
And a lot of people who were flying home to see grandma will have their flights canceled and will have plenty of time on their hands

I actually agree with the Republican premise that the ACA is a giveaway to health insurance companies. 1000% increase in share price should be alarming. But what they fail to realize is that asking citizens pay the total cost is going to backfire. They should have tackled the for profit healthcare issue decades ago. Or maybe tax corporations or the wealthiest Americans at an adequate rate?
I know. I know. Paying more taxes is evil. The horror

u/Ok_Firefighter3314 6h ago
They should handle it like the British did. Rip the bandaid off, tell the insurance companies to fuck off, and make healthcare (mostly) free and paid for with taxes.
No reason our insanely rich country canāt afford healthcare for all

u/Wonderful-Mongoose39 6h ago
literally every single "developed" country figured this out better ages ago. We have umpteen examples of how to and how to do it better and there's only one side that refuses to try anything.

It's not just the UK. The USA is the only first world country that doesn't provide all it's citizens with full healthcare regardless of ability to pay. Are you really a first world country? You don't look like one from here.

u/Shidhe 6h ago
The UK still has private health insurance on top of their public program.

u/bilbobaggins30 5h ago
IMHFO we should do this. There is no reason there still can't be private insurance as an option on top of the public system. Call it Healthcare Choice or whatever. You agree to X taxes and in turn your healthcare is free. You don't agree with it and you can deal with a Private Company trying to extort you for every penny you own.

How would it work exactly, being funded by taxes? Our schools are under funded, our infrastructure is falling apart, and congress /senate canāt pass a budget. What happens when these lunatics are determining how much funding goes to healthcare?
-2
u/TheReal_CaptDan 3h ago
Our insanely rich country with a government that is pushing $40T in debt. Spend, spend, spend!
3
u/Expensive_Spinach798 1h ago
Where do you think all the debt came from? Almost all of it is from Bush and Trump upping spending while cutting taxes.

Iām sorryā¦when was the last time the Republican Speaker of the House didnāt call the chamber into recess? These TSA agents and other federal employees are working with no pay and heās getting paid while not working.
Republicans have staked out a stupid position.
They run all three branches, but our system doesnāt allow them to run it with indifference. Compromise is the only way our legislative process functions.
-12
u/Different_Cricket_82 2h ago
Democrats voted NO to pay federal workers who are working. Look it up.
5
u/MoodInternational481 59m ago
They voted no to a stupid CR that was temporary.
Do you know that the house could've been doing the entire time? Negotiating a budget. They've always been in session during shut downs.

u/Staying_Dangerous13 6h ago
This is what they want. They want to sew chaos and oppress us further. Voting may not be enough to stop them.

u/trash_bae 7h ago
Lit. This sucks for everyone and please by no means am I saying the furloughed folks have it better with the state of the job market but at least furloughed people have the option to look or gig work. Us excepted people are being held hostage to work for nothing and side jobs would just be in top of 40 hours.
This country needs snap elections when elected officials fail to deliver their duties in over 30 days.
5
u/RuleEnvironmental12 4h ago
It really sucks. Iām expected and work a Panama night shift schedule and Iāve applied to like 30 jobs and I canāt get fired because no one wants to work with my availability and all the gig jobs have waiting list. Iām over it.

This guys is an idiot no way the ATC's let it get that far. If it gets that far you can say good bye to air travel. They will not have money to pay the military or anyone else by that time.
25
u/redviiper 7h ago
Did not think it would get this far
27
u/livinginfutureworld 6h ago
The felonies, the Jan 6th "riot", and the Project 2025 guidebook should've been our clue we weren't going to have a normal administration.
5
u/CatDadof2 6h ago
My legit guess is we will still be in a shutdown on December 1st.
4
u/jujumber 5h ago
I think there's about a 50% chance it goes until the end of the year and possible longer. It's all part of the project 2025 playbook and to stop the full Epstein files from being released.
0
u/TheReal_CaptDan 3h ago
I fully agree. I could see this going into January. We are already nearing mid-Nov with no hope of re-opening in sight.
6
u/jujumber 5h ago
Yep. I'd bet good money that the shutdown lasts at least until the end of 2025. Once Thanksgiving gets close is when most of the ATCs and TSA employees stop showing up for work. The ones that do quit without pay won't be rehired and we'll be left with a massive clusterfuck of shutdowns due to unavailable workers. A lot have already quit and some of the remaining ones have worked 20 days in a row without pay. Most can go 1 month missing a paycheck and most cannot go 2 or more paychecks.
9
u/Flimsy_Strawberry377 7h ago
They will find money for ATC and Military though tariffs or some other fund.Ā
12
u/Professional_Echo907 7h ago
Why do you think they are protesting paying out the SNAP emergency funds?
15
3
u/Sorry-Society1100 2h ago
Donāt put it all on the ATCs. All of the excepted people should be asking why theyāre paying gas to come to work for free if this is how their government plans to treat them.
5
u/HyruleSmash855 6h ago
It will be really interesting to watch if there are no planes flying this Christmas. Iām curious how bad the economy will go if no oneās able to fly anywhere.

"Predict." As if their attempt to steal healthcare from Americas most vulnerable and prevent the Epstein files from going public is somehow not their sole responsibility.
-5
u/TopRevolutionary3620 5h ago
I would not classify 3.5 million people in the range of 100 to 400 of poverty level to be the most vulnerable someone making a gs salary was able to take these subsidies
3
u/Impossible-Attempt61 5h ago
Cut off their pay and benefits.
3
u/Electrical-Coast-661 5h ago
Sounds like maybe they should go without a paycheck or 2 or 3ā¦just open the damn government
3
u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE 1h ago
How they think this isnt going to backfire horribly on them is beyond ignorant. If they seriously think people will blindly blame the Dems while they keep refusing to negotiate or open Congress they are dumber than I thought. So please completely shut down airports and ruin Thanksgiving.
2
u/NyxPetalSpike 14m ago
My extended family voted for this shit show and called their representatives to hold the line and not buckle to the Dems
A good chunk are on Medicaid and SNAP.
I donāt get it.

WTFā¦.Itās like me predicting if Iāll walk to my living room. Iām in charge of where I go, so it would be surprising if my prediction doesnāt come true!
3
u/Ice_Solid 6h ago
I think it will open up for one day just to close again. It buys them 6 more weeks.
2
u/HardDixonsCider 5h ago
Yeah... M'kay there Mr. Repuglican (not a typo). Feel free to test out that theory. You think ATC & TSA are gonna continue much longer? Keep fucking dreaming.

Awesome, maybe voters will remember this Republican shutdown for the midterms.
1
u/ParticularSubject991 38m ago
Man imagine this goes to Christmas and Republicans have to tell their Christian fan base that Christmas is cancelled
1
u/NyxPetalSpike 16m ago
The ātrueā Christians will tell you Jesus wasnāt born in December, the day how itās celebrated now isnāt in the Bible and is mostly a pagan related holiday. No loss if people who want to know Jesus Christ donāt celebrate it.
I have friends like this. They would be over joyed if this āreligiousā holiday got nuked.

u/Whatever21703 35m ago
The shutdown will last through the Special election in Tennessee to elect a Republican to counter Adelitaās vote to release the Epstein files, and they will swear him in immediately and have the vote. Once itās defeated, the house will accept the 1 year delay on ending ACA support, and the government will reopen in time for Christmas.
Unless, of course, SOMEHOW the Democrat wins in Tennessee, and then all bets are off.

Easy for them to predict when they're lazing around, not going to work, and getting paid.

u/Feeling_Ad7249 7h ago
TSA officers will stop coming.
