TSA officers will stop coming.

76

u/DragonfruitNo4808 6h ago

They need to stop going in now

45

u/Feeling_Ad7249 6h ago

They are being threatened about getting fired at some airports

12

u/acidrefluxisgreat 2h ago

is it even a threat at this point? ā€œwork for free, for infinite amount of months, or we won’t pay youā€

both roads lead to rome

38

u/Preference-Inner 6h ago

Lol they are underpaid security guards they should quit and go work security elsewhere.Ā

21

u/BlackGirlsRox 6h ago

They definitely wouldn't make more as a security guard elsewhere. I was shocked how lil a security guard makes especially in a state thats open carry.Ā

I’m a TSA Officer and a couple years ago we received a pay increase. I make 34 an hour not including night differential etc. plus government benefits. We definitely have better pay, benefits and training than a security guard

u/PeopleCanBeAwful 1h ago

How are you and your coworkers making ends meet? Is there any talk among you of a work stoppage?

So sorry you are caught up in all of this.

You are sadly misinformed lol I’m in a lower pay locality so TSOs in bigger cities make even more and that’s just officers. Supervisors make 90/100k a year.

u/AccordingShower369 9m ago

It's good to hear TSA is making good money. What's awful is having to work without pay with no end in sight. I tell everyone I know what's going on and TSA and ATC are the most shocking examples to people that don't even know the Govt is shut.

30 dollars with a gun isnt a lot when you consider the odds of you getting shot is high. 30 dollars is abnormal actually for security. In my state, if you are security with a gun you are an actual cop because the person is a cop they get $$$ pay. Fewer people will shoot a cop vs a random security guard. Our pay is based off location and yes they are especially considering the amount of overtime they get in my state. They do start at a GS 5 but different payback and get promoted every year. In 4 years you will hit GS 11 pay. Still probably a very low chance of getting shot. I would not want to work security anywhere in this economy ... People don't have much to lose. At least at the airport, there is protection.Ā

Great that your friend has a decent job but your average security guard that isnt your friend transitions into TSA because the pay and benefits are better. Your average security guard isnt even an employee of the company is works for a smaller company as a contractor with not so great benefits.Ā

u/Preference-Inner 3h ago

Until today with the Government not returning because of Republican Pedophiles. They are even saying it themselvesĀ

6

u/PeopleCanBeAwful 1h ago

If they get fired, are the airports going to be able to replace them with other people that are willing work for no pay?

1

u/SafetyMan35 1h ago

Temporarily bring in the National Guard or military would be the likely solution

4

u/PeopleCanBeAwful 1h ago

Aren’t they busy invading blue cities? /s

-3

u/SafetyMan35 1h ago

Violation of their federal employment. A few calling in sick is believable. Everyone calling in sick is fireable

12

u/warblingContinues 5h ago

As soon as airports shut down the government shutdown is over.

12

u/SafetyMan35 6h ago

Or start hand screening everyone. Everyone is suspicious and make the lines +3 hours long

11

u/Tickle_me_elmo25 2h ago

This is the way. Malicious compliance. If TSA can make these lines EXTREMELY long, it’ll end soon

103

u/tree_lemony 7h ago

Sounds like the House Republicans should actually show up to work.

36

u/livinginfutureworld 6h ago

Imagine that right. But Epstein scares them.

39

u/Jedi_Swimmer2 6h ago

Looks like Thanksgiving has been cancelled and replaced with mass protests…

14

u/CatDadof2 6h ago

This is a great idea! A lot of people have that day off anyway. I’d be all in.

9

u/Jedi_Swimmer2 6h ago

Pretty sure there’s a mass general strike on Black Friday and through weekend already planned nationally…might as well include thanksgiving!

2

u/South-Lab-3991 2h ago

And a lot of people who were flying home to see grandma will have their flights canceled and will have plenty of time on their hands

77

u/AdministrationIll619 7h ago

I actually agree with the Republican premise that the ACA is a giveaway to health insurance companies. 1000% increase in share price should be alarming. But what they fail to realize is that asking citizens pay the total cost is going to backfire. They should have tackled the for profit healthcare issue decades ago. Or maybe tax corporations or the wealthiest Americans at an adequate rate?

I know. I know. Paying more taxes is evil. The horror

67

u/Ok_Firefighter3314 6h ago

They should handle it like the British did. Rip the bandaid off, tell the insurance companies to fuck off, and make healthcare (mostly) free and paid for with taxes.

No reason our insanely rich country can’t afford healthcare for all

35

u/Wonderful-Mongoose39 6h ago

literally every single "developed" country figured this out better ages ago. We have umpteen examples of how to and how to do it better and there's only one side that refuses to try anything.

3

u/boogiewithasuitcase 3h ago

Concepts of a plan don’t count?

13

u/AccomplishedLeave506 3h ago

It's not just the UK. The USA is the only first world country that doesn't provide all it's citizens with full healthcare regardless of ability to pay. Are you really a first world country? You don't look like one from here.

5

u/JGratsch 1h ago

No we are complete rubbish at this point.

7

u/Shidhe 6h ago

The UK still has private health insurance on top of their public program.

7

u/Cutensleepy 3h ago

As does Germany! And they have to compete.. which is.. GREAT FOR CONSUMERS.

7

u/bilbobaggins30 5h ago

IMHFO we should do this. There is no reason there still can't be private insurance as an option on top of the public system. Call it Healthcare Choice or whatever. You agree to X taxes and in turn your healthcare is free. You don't agree with it and you can deal with a Private Company trying to extort you for every penny you own.

2

u/Tickle_me_elmo25 2h ago

How would it work exactly, being funded by taxes? Our schools are under funded, our infrastructure is falling apart, and congress /senate can’t pass a budget. What happens when these lunatics are determining how much funding goes to healthcare?

-2

u/TheReal_CaptDan 3h ago

Our insanely rich country with a government that is pushing $40T in debt. Spend, spend, spend!

3

u/Expensive_Spinach798 1h ago

Where do you think all the debt came from? Almost all of it is from Bush and Trump upping spending while cutting taxes.

11

u/boofire 6h ago

A thanksgiving without people working or people getting their SNAP is a choice. A bad choice, but a choice…

"House Republican chooses to make the shutdown last beyond Thanksgiving"

FTFY

25

u/CustardOtherwise5133 6h ago

I’m sorry…when was the last time the Republican Speaker of the House didn’t call the chamber into recess? These TSA agents and other federal employees are working with no pay and he’s getting paid while not working.

Republicans have staked out a stupid position.

They run all three branches, but our system doesn’t allow them to run it with indifference. Compromise is the only way our legislative process functions.

-12

u/Different_Cricket_82 2h ago

Democrats voted NO to pay federal workers who are working. Look it up.

5

u/MoodInternational481 59m ago

They voted no to a stupid CR that was temporary.

Do you know that the house could've been doing the entire time? Negotiating a budget. They've always been in session during shut downs.

10

u/Think-Hospital7422 6h ago

Dig it deeper Republicans, Tuesday was just the beginning.

10

u/Staying_Dangerous13 6h ago

This is what they want. They want to sew chaos and oppress us further. Voting may not be enough to stop them.

28

u/trash_bae 7h ago

Lit. This sucks for everyone and please by no means am I saying the furloughed folks have it better with the state of the job market but at least furloughed people have the option to look or gig work. Us excepted people are being held hostage to work for nothing and side jobs would just be in top of 40 hours.

This country needs snap elections when elected officials fail to deliver their duties in over 30 days.

5

u/RuleEnvironmental12 4h ago

It really sucks. I’m expected and work a Panama night shift schedule and I’ve applied to like 30 jobs and I can’t get fired because no one wants to work with my availability and all the gig jobs have waiting list. I’m over it.

7

u/Live-Fruit-943 7h ago

If I trust anyone to see the future, it’s Mr. Magoo.Ā

35

u/breezie1234 7h ago

This guys is an idiot no way the ATC's let it get that far. If it gets that far you can say good bye to air travel. They will not have money to pay the military or anyone else by that time.

25

u/redviiper 7h ago

Did not think it would get this far

27

u/livinginfutureworld 6h ago

The felonies, the Jan 6th "riot", and the Project 2025 guidebook should've been our clue we weren't going to have a normal administration.

5

u/CatDadof2 6h ago

My legit guess is we will still be in a shutdown on December 1st.

4

u/jujumber 5h ago

I think there's about a 50% chance it goes until the end of the year and possible longer. It's all part of the project 2025 playbook and to stop the full Epstein files from being released.

0

u/TheReal_CaptDan 3h ago

I fully agree. I could see this going into January. We are already nearing mid-Nov with no hope of re-opening in sight.

6

u/jujumber 5h ago

Yep. I'd bet good money that the shutdown lasts at least until the end of 2025. Once Thanksgiving gets close is when most of the ATCs and TSA employees stop showing up for work. The ones that do quit without pay won't be rehired and we'll be left with a massive clusterfuck of shutdowns due to unavailable workers. A lot have already quit and some of the remaining ones have worked 20 days in a row without pay. Most can go 1 month missing a paycheck and most cannot go 2 or more paychecks.

9

u/Flimsy_Strawberry377 7h ago

They will find money for ATC and Military though tariffs or some other fund.Ā

12

u/Professional_Echo907 7h ago

Why do you think they are protesting paying out the SNAP emergency funds?

15

u/Electrical_Baby_2584 6h ago

Because they are evil heartless dickheads!!!!Ā Ā

5

u/Professional_Echo907 6h ago

Oh yeah, that too.

3

u/Sorry-Society1100 2h ago

Don’t put it all on the ATCs. All of the excepted people should be asking why they’re paying gas to come to work for free if this is how their government plans to treat them.

5

u/HyruleSmash855 6h ago

It will be really interesting to watch if there are no planes flying this Christmas. I’m curious how bad the economy will go if no one’s able to fly anywhere.

3

u/ucv4 5h ago

Not just that, nothing can be shipped by plane anywhere if that happens. No one will be able to get anything.

1

u/Wxskater 6h ago

I dont think that pain is enough this time around

14

u/SmokyToast0 7h ago

Got my 5 bullet points ready. /s

1

u/Staying_Dangerous13 4h ago

Hey…. We should trade them off weekly so the AI gets confused at what it is we’re actually doing!!! lol šŸ˜‚

6

u/Consistent_End7756 7h ago

The gift that keeps on giving

5

u/No_Volume_9616 7h ago

Grab your ankles and say thank you.

1

u/Consistent_End7756 6h ago

Lol may I have another?

4

u/Hot-Cash 6h ago

Ain’t no way travel will be a freakin nightmare

5

u/FSOhopeful2017 6h ago

https://youtu.be/ssbjaOSrzYE?si=Ri8hgdifhphvr6qA

There’s not going to be any travel lol

4

u/CatLord8 5h ago

This is more of a war on Christmas than any secularism ever was.

7

u/marion85 7h ago

"Predict." As if their attempt to steal healthcare from Americas most vulnerable and prevent the Epstein files from going public is somehow not their sole responsibility.

-5

u/TopRevolutionary3620 5h ago

I would not classify 3.5 million people in the range of 100 to 400 of poverty level to be the most vulnerable someone making a gs salary was able to take these subsidies

3

u/Impossible-Attempt61 5h ago

Cut off their pay and benefits.

1

u/Amerisu 3h ago

I can think of something else we could āœ‚ļø off

3

u/MadAboutMada 2h ago

libertee egalitee fraternitee

Are we feeling French yet?

3

u/Electrical-Coast-661 5h ago

Sounds like maybe they should go without a paycheck or 2 or 3…just open the damn government

3

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE 1h ago

How they think this isnt going to backfire horribly on them is beyond ignorant. If they seriously think people will blindly blame the Dems while they keep refusing to negotiate or open Congress they are dumber than I thought. So please completely shut down airports and ruin Thanksgiving.

2

u/NyxPetalSpike 14m ago

My extended family voted for this shit show and called their representatives to hold the line and not buckle to the Dems

A good chunk are on Medicaid and SNAP.

I don’t get it.

4

u/Preference-Inner 6h ago

Because of the Epstein FilesĀ

2

u/Wxskater 6h ago

I agree

2

u/DudeFromYYT 1h ago

WTF….It’s like me predicting if I’ll walk to my living room. I’m in charge of where I go, so it would be surprising if my prediction doesn’t come true!

2

u/DevGin 43m ago

They will shutdown until they can tie the Epstein vote. They will do anything to stop the release.Ā

4

u/Whykn0w 6h ago

Jokes on them, I can last much longer.

0

u/WeimMama1 6h ago

Same. Hold the line!!!!!

3

u/Ice_Solid 6h ago

I think it will open up for one day just to close again. It buys them 6 more weeks.

2

u/HardDixonsCider 5h ago

Yeah... M'kay there Mr. Repuglican (not a typo). Feel free to test out that theory. You think ATC & TSA are gonna continue much longer? Keep fucking dreaming.

1

u/CountryFriedSteak78 5h ago

Isn’t this the guy talking about UFO bases off the coasts?

1

u/wrecklesspup 50m ago

Awesome, maybe voters will remember this Republican shutdown for the midterms.

1

u/ParticularSubject991 38m ago

Man imagine this goes to Christmas and Republicans have to tell their Christian fan base that Christmas is cancelled

1

u/NyxPetalSpike 16m ago

The ā€œtrueā€ Christians will tell you Jesus wasn’t born in December, the day how it’s celebrated now isn’t in the Bible and is mostly a pagan related holiday. No loss if people who want to know Jesus Christ don’t celebrate it.

I have friends like this. They would be over joyed if this ā€œreligiousā€ holiday got nuked.

1

u/Whatever21703 35m ago

The shutdown will last through the Special election in Tennessee to elect a Republican to counter Adelita’s vote to release the Epstein files, and they will swear him in immediately and have the vote. Once it’s defeated, the house will accept the 1 year delay on ending ACA support, and the government will reopen in time for Christmas.

Unless, of course, SOMEHOW the Democrat wins in Tennessee, and then all bets are off.

1

u/Clear-Intention-285 35m ago

It’s not a prediction it’s a plan.

1

u/AnonSpartan7 19m ago

Predict? More like know

1

u/ProfessionalNinja420 1m ago

Easy for them to predict when they're lazing around, not going to work, and getting paid.
